I love the Hood brand "Calorie Countdown" milk. The 2% has 90 cals per cup and the Fat Free has 45 cals per cup. Both have 8 grams of Protein. I think either fat free or 2% are good choices. It's a matter of preference.

I've been drinking skim milk for years. The newer skim milks don't look watery or anything and I like them fine. The calorie difference between skim and 2% is fat calories and I can do without them. I love milk and used to be a "2% snob" but made the choice to give up those unnecessary calories so that I could still have my milk and not feel guilty about it.

Skim. It has all the same nutrients and Protein that whole milk has, just less fat...and that's why we're all here, right...less fat?

I was using 1% milk and liked it just fine, until I discovered Borden's 2% High Protein milk. It's fabulous and has 10 grams of protein in a cup. It's not as fat as whole milk, but of course not as good calorie wise as skim, but I DO like the extra protein aspect of it. My family likes it too so it'a a plus for me. The were all die hard whole milk drinkers. Now they don't mind a bit. Win win for everyone.

I've been a 1% milk drinker for so many years. I've just made the switch to fat free milk and it has been a very easy adjustment. There is a slight difference in taste, but it was easy to get used to.

It's a matter of calories and for me, once I got used to drinking skim milk I never looked back.

I also like to drink the Hood Calorie Count Down 2% milk or the fat free kind because it is soo much lower in sugar and carbs and is made w/ splenda, also it is high in protien. The chocolate is fabulous as well too! Give it a try! But I do buy 1% for the rest of my family to drink.

I vastly prefer 0% fat skim milk. For me, its not a matter of calories or fat to me, as the only milk I really drink is a dash in tea or coffee. I've grown up drinking skim and any fat in the milk gives it a taste and body that makes me want to puke. I hate it.

I remember when we switched over, I was a teen and it was like giving up sugar in tea and coffee - 2 weeks of it tasting odd and then you're used to it and never looked back. I can never understand why people struggle with this, needing artificial sweetener, your tastes change very very quickly in this regard.

I also only get skim lattes and cappucinos - but that's less of an issue here as they are straight coffee - 1/3 strong espresso topped with steamed milk, more or less milk foam depending if its latte or cappucino. Flavoured syrups, cream, flavoured sugars and toppings, those arent standard with coffee here unless its an American store like Starbucks or Gloria Jeans. So even for those Italian style coffees, its just a bit of milk, less than half a cup. So again, its just a flavour thing for me, not really a calorie thing.

I am a bit gobsmacked that there would be splenda in milk????? Why on earth would milk be sweetened? Unless, of course, you're buying a milkshake or something, but surely supermarket milk, that you buy for your Cereal and to drink isnt sweetened?

I have been drinking skim milk for around 30 years and can not stand to drink whole or even 2% milk now. It is too thick for me.

Skim--lactose-free and organic. If we run out of milk and are too lazy to go the grocery store, we'll run in and buy a pint of 1% at 7-11 to tide us over. 1%=yum--tastes like cream to me after all these years of skim!

Jachut,

The splenda in the Hood milk does not make it sweet. All milk has some sort of natural sweetener. I have a gallon of 1% in the fridge now the rest of the family drinks and it has 13 grams of sugar in a glass as where the Hood milk I drink only has 3 grams to a glass and the differenc is it is sweetened w/ Splenda not natural sugars. I try to watch my sugars and carbs, because I have about 120 pounds or so more to lose. :tongue2: I guess variety is what makes the world go around, right? :)

Oh, so its just replacing the natural sweetness? I was thinking that if the western world needs sweet milk now, then we're REALLY in trouble!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
