  1. Ensure shakes can increase your calorie intake by a couple hundred if you need a few extra by the end of the day. My husband had ensure right away after being banded so he would get enough calories etc. It has worked great. He has lost 15 pounds so far in 2.5 weeks, which is huge for him. Well have fun eating more variety. I know he is looking forward to that and is counting down the days :0)

  2. Toyrenee,

Getting approved by the insurance company can seem overwhelming. At times, for us, it felt like it was never going to happen. It took a good 7 months. My husband was banded 8/10! Finally! So hang in there. You will get there and when you do it is going to change your life in so many positive ways. My husband is down 15 pounds and it has just been a little over two weeks. That may not seem like a lot but for him it is huge. We both look forward to the new life we are going to be able to have together. Take care and good luck.

  3. You are right, Sandra, everyone does expect you to be thin right after the surgery is done. They have no idea of the work it takes and it is no way a quick fix. I feel it is terrible that this surgery has a negative stigma attached to it. People that never had an issue or lives with someone that struggles with their weight just does not understand. Anyway.. have a good day all!

  4. It is a hard choice to make. I am the only one that knows my husband has had the surgery. He was banded this month. He just didn't want all the questions, non supporters and opinions given. His good friend is very open about it and sees no reason to keep it to himself. So it is really your comfort level level that will let you know what is right for you. I am guessing if you are questioning it, may be you should not tell everyone of facebook at this time. You may want to let them know later, a few months down the line. Best of luck to you. I know for my husband he has not regrets having the surgery, it has been the best thing ever, but he is so glad it is a private matter at this time. It is just easier on him. :0)

  5. I am sorry you are having such a hard time. However, the lap band is just a tool and if you attitude is askew there is no way you are going to lose weight. Go back in for your fills on a regular bases regardless if it takes a bit to hit the port or if you think the nurse is looking down on you, which I doubt. Most people that get into this business love helping people get to their goals and it is hard to tell people what they do not want to hear.

I know you can do it... it is not going to be easy getting upbeat about almost "starting" again but just make yourself do it. Remember, this is for you, not your co worker or friends but for you. Get in the gym, no more excuses ...no more I don't have time, I don't feel like it.. just get it down and cross it off your list for the day. I know we all what the weight to fall off with not much effort but it does take a total life style change. Do it for yourself, please don't let another day go by with a "I can't lose weight attitude" but instead, "I will do what ever it takes to make it attitude". I am not going to wish you luck but I will wish you strength to get your weight loss journey to start today! Take care.

  6. It is a long process but so worth it. I worked with my husbands doctor for 6 months, getting the paper work together and all the test appointments set up for him. It seemed like it was never going to happen. He was banded this month and so far so good. Hang in there...it is worth it in the end.

  7. My husband has Blue Cross Blue Shield and they paid. It has to be presented as a medical issue. We had to give them a five year history from the primary doctor showing he has been over a certain weight for 5 years or more. Plus he has high blood pressure, sleep apnea and diabetes runs in his family. If you have medical issues over your weight, I do not understand how they can turn you down? Did your doctor present the case properly? My husband just had his surgery this month, 8/10. But it took us a good portion of the year to get the packet together for insurance approval. Oh.. one more thing his primary doctor had to write a letter of recommendation as well. Not sure if this helps.
