Pros and Cons of the Sleeve Procedure
Hi, I am seven weeks out come Tuesday. Cons: I'd have to say the whole first week was one long con. I wasn't in real pain or anything mostly I was uncomfortable and restless. Negative thoughts that this will not work. Finding eating something of a chore because for the most part it isn't as enjoyable. Fighting the old habit of trying to clean my plate. Left overs. I am overwhelmed by left overs. Pros: I eat maybe 1/10 of what I use to and am full. More energy Feeling better over all Lost 25lbs so far! Not sure if this is from the weight loss or the fact that I no longer drink diet soda but I seem to be sleeping better and not getting up to use the restroom. Am off both my blood pressure and cholesterol drugs! I would do it again in a heart beat. Nancy

Six and a half weeks out
So I am almost seven weeks out, wow that seems so unreal to me it has gone by so fast. I think I may have hit my first stall but really I can not complain 25lbs in six weeks is just crazy! And yet I still struggle with myself. A part of me refuses to believe that this will work. I keep waiting for the disappointment shoe to drop, again. I know I am probably getting in 1/4 of the calories then I was before surgery by the numbers alone my body can not do anything but lose and still I doubt. I won't even allow myself to go clothes shopping because I haven't lost enough. I do love my sleeve so far it has exceeded my expectations. I can pretty much eat what I want but my wants have changed. Sweets don't seem to taste as good as they did. Before surgery I had minor issues with greasy fried foods but would eat them anyway but now it just doesn't even sound or look good to me. I still have issues with fighting the urge to clean my plate. And lef-overs! If I had left overs more then a half dozen times in a year pre-op I'd be surprised, now I have leftovers with every meal. Needless to say I end up throwing away a lot of food. So this is where I am at.

winter clothes?
Gulp! We will be there a week to help take care of DH's youngest after surgery on his shoulder. I hate to fly and just realized just how long the flights are but Jesse is worth it. I imagine it is dark all the time then? I know Fairbanks is small someone said 35,000 is there anything to do outside then? Also food I will be three months out now I know Fairbanks is not another country but I have lived my whole life in Los Angeles and in my mind I imagine that 90% of all businesses there close down for the winter? Thanks Nancy

winter clothes?
Hi All, I need some help figuring out what kind of clothing I will need when I go to Alaska at the end of November. I have lived my whole life in Southern Ca and am totally clueless as to what I might need when the temps hit the negatives at night. Nancy

Stomach stretching question
Hi, When I was at my one month post op the nurse coordinator from the hospital told me that she was amazed how much better the sleeve patients recover compared to the band patients. Kaiser olso told my friend who attended their options class that a high percentage have to have the band to be removed after 2 years. Nancy

New design issue
Hi All, I like the new design but have one small issues. On the top of the page where there are three different colored toolbars. The third one which is a light pink that starts off with "You are here" the pink is too light and makes it hard to read anything in that toolbar. Thanks

1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
Pam, I am six weeks out today and still get a little nausea now and then but it does get better. For me crystal light made a very big difference in my Fluid intake something about the sweet taste got me to drink a lot more then plain Water. I don't think anyone can fully be prepared for the first week. Every one saids that the first week is rough but there is rough and then there is *ROUGH*! Just know that each day gets better and you will love your sleeve. Doug, I think having a good exercise program in place pre op does help the recovery process. Also if you aren't already you might want to work on drinking 2 1/2 liters daily beforehand so that you get in the habit of sipping all day long. Nancy

Eating question
Hi All, I am six weeks out and doing well. I don't feel hungry at all. When I sit down to eat I go from feeling nothing to feeling full sometimes overly so but not to the point where I get sick. My question is they say to eat until you are satisfied but if you don't get hungry and are eating because it is time what does satisfied mean? Some meals I get the full feeling a lot quicker then others which can be so confusing. Nancy

chew, chew, chew - is it like this for you?
Hi, I think I am doing the opposite not chewing enough. It is not causing me pain but I do worry. Nancy

Seriously Kaiser!?!
Hi All, I have Kaiser was denied because my BMI was 36 and they do not consider hypertension and high cholesterol as qualifying comorbidity so I went the self pay route and am very happy with my sleeve 5 weeks out. I called Kaiser to get a consult with their barriatric doctor so he can coordinate my care with my PCP. So the nurse calls me back to schedule the appt and get some info. When I told her I had been denied and went the self pay route she got a little uppity and implied that the 40BMI or greater or 35 or greater with either type 2 diabetes or sleep apnea is some kind of medical/government standard and that my surgeon did something wrong by doing the surgery! Anyone hear of this? I was so happy yesterday when I saw my PCP and my b/p which wasn't being well controlled before surgery was 93/57 and am officially off both blood pressure and cholesterol drugs. Now I am worried I'll get some lecture when I go in. Nancy

any regrets?
Hi, I am also 50 plus and am one month out and have no regrets. Nancy

450 pounds, 23 y old, TERRIFIED!
Emmalouise, So glad that you have made it to the other side, condrads! The first week tends to be the hardest but each day it gets better and better. The buyer's remorse also is common the first few days but just wait until you see the scale start to drop. Try to walk as much as you can, many frequent little walks are better then longer ones. Eating spicy food?

Anxiety
Hi, Everyone is different but I did not have pain when I first started eating soft foods. When you over eat it feels as if you ate a whole Thanksgiving dinner stuffed. Eat slowly for me I tend to eat too much too fast and then end up feeling uncomfortable. Start slowly one food at a time. Nancy
