Dear Protein,
I am not big on protein either but so far I can tolerate the isopure grape, the vanilla or chocolate mixed into the skin milk I use to make my sugar free pudding and the unjury chicken soup flour mixed into a bowl of strained chicken noodle soup, Hope these help. Nancy

Skin problems?
Yoiu probably should ask your doctor just in case. Are you taking in any dairy? Maybe a strange reaction to milk intolerance? Skin changes are not that uncommon and they talk about hair lose and the two are the same in their make up. Are you doing your B Vitamins? Nancy

Reassurance Needed
Hi, I am six days post op and those hoops are oh so fresh in my head I especially liked the pregnancy test (I am two years post) and the slight concern that the test was 5 days before surgery and could I have gotten pregnant in the last five days....hello I am about to turn 54! (Hope that at least got you to crack a grin). I was self pay too and yeah those loans are crazy. Don't let them get you down you are doing the right thing you are doing a necessary thing. And you will do just fine. I think as the fear goes we naturally try to relieve it anyway we can and the quick fix is to change your mind but I promise you if you diud that you more then likely will feel even worse. You can do this! Nancy

Going home!!!!
Dr Lyass is the greatest! So was Northridge! I am at day 5 and feel pretty darn good I can actually take almost normal swallows today I was able to drink 1 liter of crystal light with diluted light juice one 20 fl oz isopure and a bowl of chicken broth with protein powder. Gas was only an issue the first night. Best of all I can sleep on my side with a body pillow. I am beyond happy.

Poll: To tell or not to tell co-workers
Hi, I think a lot depends on how you feel about your coworkers as individuals. What you did was not lazy nor drastic it was necessary would having a tumor removed that may or may not kill you years down the line and would cause you health issues be either? Its not like anyone of us gain a little weigh and woke up and said rather then try the conventional routes we will just go for a quick fix. Surgery is not our first attempt or choice. Hold your head up and if anyone tries to feed you any negativity kick them to the curb. Nancy

Epigastric discomfort when walking?
Another thing you may want them to look at on Monday is your gallbladder stones are a common thing after this surgery. I am glad you are feeling better and that it wasn't a leak. Nancy

questions 3 days post op
Thanks guys. The support here is so great. Headaches are better today so maybe it is a withdrawel thing I was a major diet coke drinker before surgery. My lower back kind of hurts but I think it may be because I haven't been exactly moving normally(G) Nancy

Post surgery thoughts
Well its day 3 I won't say its been easy but it hasn't been all that bad either. But all this down time has had me thinking. The first thing that has struck me on this journey is how many of us say things like "we have done this to us" or use the word "elective" I don't know about that to me there was nothing elective about this. High B/P, high cholesterol and a borderline ekg are all warning signs that my weight is killing me. If a doctor told me oh you have this tumor it could kill you in 10-20 years and will cause you health issues What do you want to do about it?" What do I need the roof to fall on my head? I have tried and I exercise but it isn't working so now it is time to do something before it is too late. I may be a bit miserable today but tomorrow I will feel a little better and the next day even better. And in a few weeks I will feel normal. Someone commented on my blog that we are brave for doing this , Katy is right we are!

questions 3 days post op
Hi All, So I am 3 days post op probably doing better then I think. Anyway between the Isopure Water and maybe one Jello and one popsicle I am getting maybe 200 calories and am getting maybe 1 liter a day. I am dragging and headachy which I imagine is normal? Am I on course? Should I be worried? Thanks Nancy

Kaiser Options orientation

Surgery oddities and stuff
Hi All, I thought I'd share some of what I thought were the odder moments of surgery. First off was I had been in my room several hours before I noticed the gown I was wearing when I was willed in was a different one. Now I know during surgery we are all laid out like Sunday chicken but it still felt odd to think of someone undressing and redressing me! I also had something called an On Q pump an odd little gizmo that pumps in a novacaine type drug into your stomach area. The last was a bit of a NSV well not really but felt like it they came to take me to x-ray for the upper gi they brought this wheelchair big enough to almost fit two of me in it. The barium stuff was nasty as could be but with someone like me with bad reflux I was able to do it. Oh and a last bit of advice for anyone waiting on surgery, when they bring you your first liquid tray do not go crazy mixing in the unflavored Protein into every thing (G) Nancy

Random Question
Hi, That was really odd I seriously doubt we have any kind of look, maybe after bypass if there are mal absorption problems but beyond that I really can't see it. I agree with Tiff about what proceedure that guy could use. Nancy

Why can we have decaf coffee but not regular?
Caffeine can dehydrate that is why they want you to avoid it.
-
Burps after eating...
I have heard that this is common and to try gas x strips if your MD okays it.

Sleeved with lots of Complications
I am so sorry to hear you had complications but like someone else posted they caught it early and that really makes a difference. I was just sleeved on the 24th but I imagine even a week out because of the complications you are probably a bit swollen. Go easy on yourself you just had two major surgies!
