Hi everyone. First off, I want to thank each and every one of you sharing your experiences . Although I do not post very often, I certainly read your posts and they have been so helpful when I go to my doctor's visits, etc. I knew the right questions to ask because of you, so THANK YOU.

My surgery is scheduled for September 1. Unfortunately my employer excludes the weight loss coverage, so I am self pay. I was so excited until i began dealing with surgery loans. Let me tell anyone who is considering financing through surgery loans NOT too. For the past week they have been giving me the blues so bad, that I almost cancelled my surgery TWICE, and because of this, I'm left second guessing my decision. So far, I've lost 23 lbs pre-op, and I am so ready for this surgery, but all of the BS surgery loans has put me through I am (or have considered) throwing in the towel.

For you veterans out there, please reassure me that this is the very best thing for me to do. I know it is, but for some reason, I've been very depressed today. I feel like I've had to jump through so many hoops that I'm emotionally drained. Help, I need a pick me up.:)

Thanks in advance to you all.

I've been sleeved for about 6 weeks now and it has been THE best thing I've ever done for myself. Confidence has improved and I feel better about myself on so many levels. Physically I've lost weight, but the best thing is the surge of energy I've experienced. My attitude has been so much sunnier (so much that even my boss commented on it) and I feel like there is not much I cannot tackle.

Don't let the turkeys get you down. You are worth it!

I am generally in the "don't borrow money for anything except a house no matter what" camp, but let me tell you, this surgery is so life-changing that I would advise anybody to do whatever it takes to make it happen. For me, being fat and feeling hopeless about doing anything about it was just so awful, on a truly moment-by-moment basis, that having this surgery and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is just a miracle.

So... chin up, eyes front, keep your eyes on the prize, and don't let the jerks get you down!!

You're scared of the unknown. Read through my posts of the past week. You would not be normal not to be second guessing removing so much of an organ from your body. What you have to realize is how much success would you be able to do on your own and MAINTAIN it? With maintaining over the long term.

I am 2 days out. I got discharged from the hospital yesterday, exactly 24 hours after having surgery to remove a Lap Band and have a revision to the VSG. I am still uncomfortable, it hurts to cough and I refuse to laugh at anything. Other than that it's not as bad as when I had my two previous c-sections because it's higher up in your chest.

Everyone has fears going into the unknown, it's normal. I am exhausted and uncomfortable but at the moment I'm glad to have that band out of my body and to be healing. Each hour is another one closer to a healthy BMI and weight for me. I almost cancelled several times myself. I did this for my kids. I'm starting to get excited though of the thought of being able to buy clothes that look nice on my body again and fitting in my leather jacket I haven't been able to wear in so long.

Take care and remember we are all here for you!!

Go for it, I'm a month out and we just started paying for it, so we have 10 months (we paid with a 0% credit card) that we will be about minus?1000, i think it's worth every penny though!

I am also self pay and will take out a loan for my surgery. It is a little nerve racking to think of the debt I am putting my family in but I believe that the long term rewards (ie: being healthier, feeling good about myself, and being able to keep up with my little ones) is worth the short term inconvenience of having to cut back on spending. I hope you can relax and feel confindent in your decision.

Congratulations and I wish you a speedy recovery.

depending on the loan co yo use it can be a pain. I would not let this interfer with my surgery, find another if the one you have is crapy. On the question if you are doing the right thing, that is a decision only you can make no single surgery is appropriate for all people, you have to pick what is best for you and it is not just based on a couple of factors. feeling unsure, scared just before surgery is normal, make sure you are going into the surgery knowing this is what you want , and you can deal with your stray thougths of am i doing the right thing etc, you will do great

Hi, I am six days post op and those hoops are oh so fresh in my head I especially liked the pregnancy test (I am two years post) and the slight concern that the test was 5 days before surgery and could I have gotten pregnant in the last five days....hello I am about to turn 54! (Hope that at least got you to crack a grin). I was self pay too and yeah those loans are crazy. Don't let them get you down you are doing the right thing you are doing a necessary thing. And you will do just fine. I think as the fear goes we naturally try to relieve it anyway we can and the quick fix is to change your mind but I promise you if you diud that you more then likely will feel even worse. You can do this!

Nancy

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
