Under The Gown Jitters!
You won't be wearing anything under the gown. The OR is a sterile area and your undergarments are not. Don't worry I am a very modest person too. I even never went to the gyno prior to last year when I was 28 because I was mortified to be fully examined. Lucky for me they did not remove my gown prior to me being anesthetized, so I was unaware of it. I was even to groggy to say anything post op when they lifted my gown a couple times to check my incisions.

Addicted To The Scale
I too am addicted to the scale. I would weigh everyday, mostly many times per day. Sometimes I would get frustrated and force myself to stay off for a few days. It would be hard, but I'd do it. I started with a personal trainer today. Our goal is to decrease body fat. She checked it today and will check it again in 5 weeks. She told me, no stepping on the scale for 5 weeks. Tonight I put my scale in the closet. This is going to be very hard, but I'm going to do it. She said seeing the number on the scale and if you get discouraged, can mess with your hormones and stop weight loss. I'm going to do my best to stay off, so not to get frustrated.

Im Self Pay--What If I Have A Hiatal Hernia??
It may be beneficial for you to find out prior. I've heard of self pay people having insurance covering the hernial and then you just tack on the band. Meaning less cost to you.

Advice, Long Tom. Maybe Tmi
Thankfully day 10 was the last day and it stopped. Hopefully it won't happen again. Thanks

How Long Was Your Hospital Stay?
I went home the same day. My doc had told me the only reason he would keep me overnight is If the had to convert to an open procedure.

Advice, Long Tom. Maybe Tmi
I didn't think for a second it was band related. Just curious if anyone else had had a similar issue.

Advice, Long Tom. Maybe Tmi
I've now had my period for 10 days. It is kind of light, but still I'm passing clots. I'm kind of getting a little worried. I usually go for 4-5 days. Also even the beginning of this period was weird, usually I start cramping a number of days prior, and get cramps on the day I start. This time. No cramps prior and none on the day of. I don't completely keep track, but it just showed up, and thinking back, it was on time. But I'm concerned I'm still bleeding. I was going to give it a couple more days before I call my gyno. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice. With all my weight loss so far, my period has always been consistent, so I'm unsure what changed, and I haven't lost a lot of weight recently. I did have a big drop last week (3.8lb), but over the last 5 months or so, I've only lost 15lb. Any advice is welcomed. TIA

Too Much Water - Is There Such A Thing?
I drink sometimes 2 gallons of Water a day. Unless you drink it all at once, I don't think there's a problem. IMO, I think your problem is that you're eating under 1000 calories per day. First off you're a male, so I've seen the recommendations for men to not eat under 1500 calories per day. You are also working out, so you need more. Honestly I think if you start eating more the scale would start moving. I'd be totally flamed if I said how much I ate per day. So really try upping your calories. Oh and if the scale goes up for a couple weeks, don't automatically drop your calories, sometimes it takes a little time.

After Plateauing For Months I Am Now Too Tight
I really hope you are not serious! Go get some taken out now! is 40 lbs worth suffering for? Sure you'll be thin, but in essence you'll still be fat because by not eating most of what you'll be losing is muscle mass, so you'll be what's called "skinny fat". Skinny, but your Body Fat percentage is still quite high. Seriously...

Ugh, I Cheated Big Last Night... First Time Since The Pre-Op Diet!
Just jump back in! In the past it would, for me, be, I messed up, ate something I shouldn't have, the day is ruined mine as well finish the day off eating like crap and start tomorrow. Now it's, ok you had a treat, back to the program. Gotta get your mind around that. One bad meal is NOT going to ruin all your progress. You may initially see the scale go up a little, but it won't be a true gain. As for the alcohol, I hate the taste, so I can't help you on that, sorry.

New And Concerned
It is normal not to lose in the beginning. I lost nothing weeks 2-5 post op. give it some time and the scale will move. Please do not eat only 500-600 calories. That is not enough for your body to function on, especially if working out.

1000 Calories, Gym 5 Days A Week..no Weight Loss!
I believe now that you have to eat to lose. With working out that much and only 1000 calories, your body needs more fuel. Sorry, but she is most definitely NOT gaining muscle with only eating 1000 calories, and especially only doing cardio.

To true! I've wanted to post something like this for the longest time. If the posts are all in italics or script, I just skip them. It hurts to try to read, and if they're in a color it makes it even worse.

Unjury Unflavored Protein Powder
I used the unjury shakes, chocolate splendor and vanilla. I liked them a lot, and still have some. But now I use Premeir Protein from costco. They are RTD, I have one every morning because I feel sick if I eat before my workout. I tried a couple different, so called "tasteless" protein powders for my Clear liquids, and they all made me want to vomit. I could not stomach any clear Proteins. The only protein I had during my 2 day pre op clear, and the 7 day post op clear phase, was the Unjury chicken soup flavor.

What Was Your Turning Point?
I'd say one of the large factors, was my sister getting engaged. Yes I had been miserable for a long time and yo yo dieting and stuff. But the thought of having to wear a dress, made me even more depressed. There was NO WAY I was going to be caught dead in a dress at 260 (I think that is about where I was), and unfortunately that wasn't my highest of 308, but still. I think it was a couple of months after my sister got engaged I had my first appointment. I had a 6 month supervised diet I had to go through and I lost only 11lbs. Got banded in December and my sisters wedding was in November, I got down to 180 by that date. I was still self conscious, but I felt I looked decent. The other factors were just that I was miserable with my life, I had no life. Luckily I was fat, but I was healthy, no medical problems at all.

How Long Should I Expect This Pain To Last?
I was really painful the first day, day 2 was so much better, still painful, but I'd rate it out of 10, like a 4 or 5 (I think. Surgery was over a year ago), day 3 was pretty good, maybe a 2 or so. One dose of the vicodan got me through, with maybe one other dose of tyelenol. I mainly took the vicodan on day 3 because I got my period and my cramps on day one had been really bad. After that I was just sore.

Looking For Workout Sugestions
They can do any exercise with the band. I've heard P90X is really good.

Lap Band and Hcg?
I just don' understand, if you wanted a "fad diet", why get the band in the first place? I chose lap band as a lifestyle change. Oh and I'm losing the weight with a lifestyle change which doesn't include the band anyways. I do not have restriction and never searched for it once I lost the initial that I had. And I clicked on this link to have a laugh at what people were saying. Btw they even have banned the topic of hcg at mfp because of how stupid and unhealthy the diet is.
-
Lap Band and Hcg?
Hcg has been or in the process of being banned by the FDA. There is absolutely no proof it works. The only part that does work is the 500 calorie diet you are supposed to follow, which is extremely unhealthy and you gain back after you eat normal again. I'd much rather rev my metabolism than slow it down like that. On that note have fun taking pregnant ladies urine!

Exercise After The Band
For me, not hard at all. I'd been going to the gym for many years prior to the band. Once I got the ok post op from my doc at 9 days for cardio (and about 3-4 weeks for weights) a few days later I started back. I took it slow at first, I was still a teeny bit sore, but within a week or 2 I was back to my old routine, but a little more. 2 months after surgery I started cardio or fitness kickboxing, and I now go 5 days a week taking usually 6-7 classes. Wednesday I go twice and 2 days I usually do 1.5 classes. So once you are cleared, have at it. For me I had a very quick recovery so it was easy. Some people have harder ones.

Where Can I Buy Liquid Medicine?
I would definitely not recommend buying medicine from eBay. That would just freak me out, I don't care if it's sealed. You never know.

Is A 5 Pound Gain Possible?
In order to TRUELY gain 5 lbs you'd have to eat 17,500 calories OVER your maintenance calories. Did you? Very highly unlikely. So it was not a true gain. It was probably water retention.

Has Anyone Experience Issues With The Tsa While Flying W/ The Band?
I've been through the bossy scanner twice with my band. Both times in Orlando international airport (starting to dislike that airport... LOL). The first time they also patted me down but I think it was due to my necklace having been under my shirt so they saw that. Second time was fine. The scanner does not see through your skin in anyway, it is not an x ray machine. There fore it shouldn't see your band.

Plateau? Don't Despair!
Wish it were that easy for me. I've been at the gym since 2 weeks post op, drink s minimum of 1 gallon of water per day. And I've only lost 12 lb since September. I'm thinking of getting a metabolic test done to see what I should really eat. I'm about to go off for a week. No gym, no tracking. I went to Florida last month and didn't track (know I ate more than I should have) and only worked out once, my days were spent sitting in lectures. And I had lost a lb when I came back. I'm just so afraid to do that again though.

Post Op Mrsa
MRSA is not a new risk. It always has been a risk in the hospital setting. Anyone can be a carrier and not show any symptoms.
