  1. I'm actually going to restart the elliptical. I used to always do it at the gym, but then I joined kickboxing and just did that instead. Now I feel like I'm needing to switch things up, so I'm rejoining the gym this morning and going to be doing elliptical first. Hopefully I can still go like I used to for 40 minutes or so at level 7. Though I'm probably gonna put the level higher today. I still remember, like others that when I first tried it initially I could barely do 5 minutes.
  2. You have to go until your heart rate reaches a certain point. I assume if you're not used to exercising that should not be very fast for you. I was doing elliptical for years so it takes more to get my HR high, so mine was almost at a run somewhat and at a big incline. The moment my HR reached the point the girl asked if I wanted to stop and I was like YES.
  3. Feels great doesn't it? The weight I lost pre band (not a lot, but even throughout the years), and my pre op diet, by the time I got my band every pound was a new low for me. So I am thrilled with every one. Good luck with your losses and keep working it!
  4. I'm 5'2", my goal right now is a normal BMI, albeit the high end. So it is 135 right now. As I get closer that may be higher or lower, not sure. I don't like the look of people who are extremely thin. Ive been fat for a long time, so I have no idea what I will look like at that weight. Only time will tell.
  5. I would highly recommend a psychologist too, and to research the band more. The band helps with hunger. If youre eating and you're not hungry, the band really is not going to help you. The band is really not going to stop you from eating. From what I understand even at restriction you can still over eat, or just keep grazing. (I say from what I understand because I have basically no restriction, but I've changed my ways so honestly I probably could've done this without the band, had I been in the right mindset, I do have some though, because I do feel crappy if I eat to much at once). So you may want to research before jumping into this. I am not trying to talk you out of it, but I'm speaking honestly that if you think you'll just go back to eating only when you're hungry you're mistaken.
  6. It's hard, but I think you'll adjust. I hated what I used to see in the mirror. Now, even though I am only halfway to my goal, I like what I see. I should say, when dressed, I still hate myself naked. I find myself dancing around the living room and looking at myself in the mirror. I feel SO much better about the way I look.
  7. I say start over too. I'm not supposed to drink my calories, but. I went away for the weekend and since I've been back I've been struggling. Staying within my calories and exercising but the scale is not budging. Tomorrow and saturday I'm going back to liquids. I'm gonna have 4 protein drinks a day and that's about it. I feel this helps when I'm struggling. It's not good to do for too long. I usually lose a number of lbs but gain a little back when I eat again. I feel it just gives my body a nudge in the right direction and the scale starts moving again.
  8. When I had my surgery I had a 2nd part time job I only worked at on Sunday's, when very few people were there. I told my manager I'd be out because I was having surgery. I did not say what kind because it's none of her business (I did tell my manager at my full time job). So when I came back my friend had td me they were speculating on wether I'd had weight loss surgery. Really! None of there business! I mean yeah, there were 2 other people there that had had it, 1 bypass, and 1 band, but still obviously if I didn't tell them it was my business. So people will talk. It sucks to deal with, but I guess since you see those people you might want to set them straight.
  9. I didn't see it right away either. I had my surgery in December and I did a week pre op lost 9.8#, a week post op lost 9.2, so a total of 19#. A few days after I came back someone said to me I look like I lost weight. It felt weird. That person had no idea I had surgery (I mean any surgery). I didn't see it. Weird thing is when I started at my current job 1.5 years prior to that I weighed about, 285 or so, when I started my pre op diet I weighed 247 and no one had said anything previous about any weight loss. Maybe it's where you lose it idk. But 30# is a great accomplishment, be proud!
  10. The only thing that is going to be accurate is a HRM, weather it be a body bugg, body media (I want one...lol) or a polar HRM (have that). I go by that and it gives me completely different data than myfitnesspal and the machines.
  11. It's normal. You're going from liquids to solids. It happens to most everyone.
  12. 2.5 weeks is kind of early to tell. But if at your appointment you're still satisfied with what you're eating and still losing there is abaolutely no reason to get a fill. I went 5 months before my first fill and probably should not have even go that one. Do not let you're doc push a fill if u don't need one. You have plenty of time for fills.
  13. If you don't go with him. My surgeon is Dr. Edward Cussati. Excellent surgeon and bedside manner. I'd highly reccomend him. He's in West Islip and Good Samaritan Hospital
  14. You really have to think long term. I limit my carbs but in no way do I not eat them. If I want a slice of pizza I'll have it, bread I'll have it. I usually stay around 100grams or less per day. I know for me cutting them out completely is not realistic long term, and since thus is a lifestyle change for me, I look at the long term. Could I lose faster if I cut them out? Possibly, but like I said not what I want to do. And honestly I've come to beleuve slower is better in some ways. Faster weight loss can leave no room for your skin to catch up and gall bladder issues. I'm happy with how I'm doing.
  15. I think mine does if I sit a different way. Every so often i get a pain near it when I sit. The other day I was at the apple store getting a new computer and while I was sitting there waiting for the new OS to be installed I started having pains in my abdomen/muscle area. I was thinking I pulled something at kickboxing that morning, but basically after I got up it felt fine again. So I guess it was the way I was sitting. Also happened once at the movies. Maybe it is the way my bra was sitting on it or something, because it it a few inches below my bra line
  16. Had to look, since your screen name says 2011. According to your profile, you were just banded on July 2nd, and you have a BMI of 34.4. IMHO there is NO WAY I would get an RNY with a BMI that low. In fact I would not get it in general. Due to the reasons reverie mentioned above. I'm sorry but your 1 month post op and already thinking of a different sx? Did you not think before you got the band?
  17. My post op meal plan said 1/4 cup of food 3 times per day during the mushie stage. Everyones is different though
  18. It shouldn't, seven days post op I was so bored I decided to go back to work, the night before we had a snow storm that dumped over a foot of snow. Well, like I said I wanted to go to work, so I shoveled my car out. Probably not the best idea, but I did it and I was kind of worried. 3 weeks or so later I had a barium swallow (my doc does it within the first month) and everything was fine
  19. I've had a polar heart rate monitor that I've loved from the beginning. However it's like 6 years old or so and lately I don't trust it very much. Though I just think it's time to replace it, it was excellent for years. I've been toying around with getting a bodymedia fit , same as body bugg, but haven't done it yet. The polar has a chest strap, theyhave men's and woman's models so I assume the men's strap is larger. At my heaviest I could wear it it was just stretched (don't know how big my chest was though) I've been noticing I have to keep tightening it more, yay!
  20. I'm sorry but I don't see how you should get stuck with an empty band. I'm 7 months post op I only have a fill of 0.75 cc and I've NEVER gotten stuck, slimed , or pb'd, and I have to say I dont really chew well at all. Obviously at one week you still have to much swelling and you should be on at least mushies if you've gotten stuck. Sorry but it's true.
  21. Well if you can't eat now without getting stuck, do not get a fill on Wednesday!
  22. I agree with Dave. You have to be completely ready, in all areas. In my opinion you can't try one diet and just give up and say I want surgery. I tried dieting but I lost and then went off track and gained back. I got to the point that I was at the end of my road, depressed to much of the time, felt horrible. I always say, I wish I'd done this sooner and in a way I do, but I dont know if I was completely ready before. I have now completely changed my mind set. Without that, it won't work. The first 5 months I didn't really get hungry between meals, not common for most, but at my 5 month visit, I decided I wanted my first fill, it helped a little in the beginning, but not long. Though I'm now 7 months post op and I don't want another because though I do get hungry, I've changed my mindset and I just eat by calories. If I have the calories I eat, if I don't I'll drink crystal light to curb the hunger. I eat anything I want just try to in moderation. In the past I'd screw up and say screw it to the whole day. Now if I screw up, I'll just skip dinner or something to balance my calories. Maybe not the best idea, since then my Protein intake is low, but it seems to work for me. So if you think your ready, go for it, if not, I would wait.
  23. I know the feeling, once I hit like 208, I started to get real excited for onederland, then it seemed to take forever to get there!
  24. Well, if that's true I'm in trouble, I do crunched and Sirius and everything 6 days a week at kickboxing. Yes, I do feel the port pull sometimes, and I've been doing it since about 3 months post op. I've never heard of a doc not allowing you to do AB exercises.
  25. This is one reason I told very few people, my parents, outside my immediate family
