reward for reaching my goal weight
I would want to reward myself with a breast lift. Though a cruise sounds awesome! I went on my first one when I graduated college with my family I had a good time. I think it will be more fun when I'm not morbidly obese.

how long were you in the hospital? out of work?
I have a physical job, I took one week, felt I could've gone back sooner. If I had a desk job I think 4 days off would have sufficed. Also I had an outpatient procedure and I was at the hospital at 8 and home by 2 or 3.

So am I just being too picky with these darn protein shakes?
I personally like unjury brand. You can get a sample package on their website. I tried Bariatric advantage and wanted to vomit too.

Questions about the lap band surgery
Painful? I was in pain when I woke up but got much better after a coupledoses of fentanyl (I believe that's what they gave me in the hospital) the rest of that day I was regretting my decision,( at home) when the pain meds weren't in effect. The next day I was a lot better, still uncomfortable, butmuch better. Third day I only took the meds once and then that was it, still sore, but I did not need meds. Everyone has a different pain threshold. The weight loss rate is what you make of it. It will be faster if you have more to lose, but you need to eat right to make it work. Don't think you don't need to watch yourself. If you can't exercise right away, some people don't and still lose, but I would definitely start when you can. As for steak, well it depends. Some people can't eat it, some people can. I have barely any fill and I can eat whatever I want. As for having it removed, it usually is not removed unless there are complications. It's supposed to last, also there is a risk you'll regain the weight.

I'll be honest
I agree with reverie, you do not have to be tight and you're putting yourself at risk for complications. To the OP, I know that you're frustrated, but I'm sure having a baby might've thrown you off, just jump back on the horse. You can start back with the basics, focus on Protein. Start counting calories, go do some exercise. You can do it!

How happy are you with your body as you are losing weight?
Dressed, I'm happy with the way I look right now. Still have a bit of weight loss left, but I look 1000x better than before in my eyes. I saw a picture of myself from when I was about my heaviest and I was in total shock! I never thought I was that big and I was sickened of letting myself get that way! Now naked I am still having a lot of rolls, but the good thing is so far no real loose skin. The only parts I'm really worried about is my lower stomach, which still is fat, so hopefully the skin will shrink, and my inner thighs, but the same still fat, so hope for the best.

Water! How do you do it?
Wow the original post is from 2003! Well any ways, I have no problem getting in my water. 6 days a week I go kickboxing, I drink one 32 oz bottle of water while I'm there (sometimes more), I drink 32 oz of wyler's (crystal light type flavoring) on the car ride home. That's already 64 oz. I drink at least 3 more 32 oz bottles if wylers throughout the day, sometimes more. Like others I was told no drinking 30 min before and like 45 minutes after. I sometimes ignore the before if I'm thirsty, I usually only do 30 minutes after.

Downsizing over here!!!!!
I know how good that feels! On previous diets I'd only gotten down to a 2XL in scrubs and shirts and stuff. The day I was like ok let me try and the XL scrubs fit I felt the best I'd felt in years. It's a great feeling and congrats!!! Recently I started wearing large scrubs, though the pants are a little uncomfortable still, I was pulling my XL pants up every 5 minutes and that was really annoying.
-
How do you deal with in between clothing sizes?
I agree with the scrubs right now I'm to small for XL, but the large is like skin tight. It was either pulling up my XL pants every 10 min or so and they looked like parachute pants on me. Or deal with somewhat uncomfortable pants. I chose the latter after deciding my larger pants were just to annoying. Hopefully I'll lose an once or two in my hips (the waist is completely fine) and they'll feel much mor comfortable

Punishing myself? Sabotaging myself? Testing my band? PLEASE help. :(
The band is not going to stop you from eating cookies, candy and sweets. YOU have to control that. I eat them (if they are at work, I don't bring it into my house) but I moderate it and I add it into my daily calories. Even if you can eat what you did pre band, you shouldnt. I know you don't have restriction yet but you need to try. The band is not going to do everything.8. It is ok to be a little hungry. If your hungry drink, that helps me a lot. You can do this!

Any Regrets after Lap Band Surgery ?
No regrets at all! Though I kind of wish I did it sooner, but not sure if I was truly ready. Also, the band has given me some restriction, but not a ton (I could get more if I wanted) buy I feel a lot af this is just me and I'm just finally dieting right and the band gave me the kick in thd ass to actually do OT right. So not totally sued if I needed the band

Are your fills done under Fluoroscopy, or Standard way?
I've only had one tiny fill, but it was the standard way, no fluoro. When I read early on about some docs using lidocaine, I said to myself I'm gonna tell my doc just do the fill, no need to numb it. My doc doesn't numb it. Why would you want to be stuck twice when I didn't even feel the fill needle. And it from what I saw it looked like a 20 gauge needle which is decently big and I still didn't feel it. But I stab myself with needles regularly at work (accidently) so I'm kinda used to ot

Calling all pierced banders
Ah an ER fan! I LOVE ER!! An MRI would just attract the metal and alter the image and be a magnet to it so your ring would stuck to it while it's still on your finger. It might have to do with electrocautery. If they have to use it the cautery could burn you where the metal is, in theory. They do use cautery pads which attract the cautery to it. But I don't know if they use cautery laporascopically. I would think only if they did a open procedure.

The worst feeling...
I'm not sure how you lose weight, but I seem to have good weeks, then slower weeks, or I lose nothing at all or I may go up a little. But even with weeks I didn't lose or gain a little, it all evens out in the end, I'm still averaging 1.5 # per week. So it could just be your body adjusting

So let's talk about our lap band surgeons for a second...
I haven't had any problems, so honestly I can't say how my doc is in regards to that. But if a doctor won't go back to the hospital to see a post op patient with complications, that is horrible and I wouldn't want him as my doc. My doc just moved his practice however and now it seems he only sees patients 3 days a week. I guess he's in surgery the other two.
-
How do you know what the lap band can handle?
I have not had anything get stuck and I'm 7 month post op, I've only PB'd once and it was on water, I was drinking to much I think. The only problem I've had is one time I was eating steamed dumplings at work and I was eating fast because it was busy and I swallowed to quickly and I felt it go down and it was sore inmy chest for a few minutes, I don't think it was stuck just slow going down. Though I only have 0.75 ccin my band, and that was when I had nothing. I have no problems at all and can eat quick if I want to.

I guess I cant talk about it anymore!
My doc has never asked me about a fill. It wasn't til I said I was starting to get hungry 2 months ago did he say it's time. I went today, waited an hour for my appointment (I hate that that is every time when the actual appointment takes 5-10 min.). I'd lost 13# since I'd last been there two months ago. See on the slow side of losing. (I missed a month ). He was happy with my progress. He said (before I even said anything) he's not going to touch my band. So I didn't say anything. For some reason I always clam up when I'm in there. So we'll see where the next 4 weeks take me.

What are good protein shakes?
I like the unjury brand. You can only get it online. But you have to try ones for yourself, everyone has a different taste. Plenty of people swear by one brand and it might taste horrible to you.

I guess I cant talk about it anymore!
Thanks! I'm going for an appointment today and I've decided I'm not going to get one. I'm going to give it another month, and see how I am. I'm probably going to tell the doc, that I'm hungry but Water seems to calm it and I don't want one. He doesn't push fills so he'll be fine with it. I probably shouldn't have gotten the first one, since I basically feel the same as when I did get the first one, but oh well. I don't lose super quick, but I'm fine with where I'm at.

Loose skins question for those under 30 yrs olda
I'm 28, I've lost 50# with the band and 115# from my highest weight. So far, my skin is bouncing back ok. I'm worried about my inner thighs though and of course my lower abdomen. My boobs have hung for as long as I can remember. When the time comes, I will definitely be getting them fixed. That's something I always promised myself. The only other thing I probably would get done is if I still have a lot of hanging skin on my lower stomach, I just would want it removed, not really a TT, just get it cut off.

Throwing up
Are you taking the meds on an empty stomach? Antibiotics can make you sick if you don't take them with food. Though I guess since you've already thrown up you could just be swollen now too.
-
How did you change your mindset?
I just said this is what must do. I still would love to walk into a fast food place and get something, but for the most part once I think about the calories it's not worth it. I got myself to the point (though I wasn't at my highest, I was actually 50# below it) where I was so depressed all the time about my life, lack of friends etc, that I said I HAVE to do something. Yes, I lied through my teeth at the psych eval. Questions like do you just start crying sometimes, ever considered suicide (not sure if they asked that) those questions should have been yes, but I said no. I didn't think id be approved if I showed just how depressed I was. So I made a decision to do this and as the scale keeps going down, I feel better and better about myself

eliptical nightmare
I started it a couple years prior to banding. It took a while for me to get used to it. Give it time
-
I guess I cant talk about it anymore!
That is one reason I don't really want to get a fill. I had one small one two months ago (5 months post op) and am hungry again, but not crazy hungry. Water usually shuts it up for a bit. Even though I now only have 0.75 cc in my band, I'm afraid to get more because I've never gotten stuck and don't want to. I'm still losing weight fine, so not sure if I want one

Feeling too good??
Some people just have less pain than others. I guess it depends on your pain tolerance. I felt fine (other than some soreness getting up) on day 3. First day I wanted to die, second day I probably took the pain mess twice, third day I took them once only because I got TOM and I get bad cramps, but one dose, no cramps all day and I was fine. I probably could've gone back to work by day 5 (and I'm on my feet moving and bending all day). So no, not abnormal to feel fine at one week. You will see a lot of people here are innpain longer. I don't know, maybe low pain tolerance, or maybe the way the surgeon does the surgery itself, I'm not sure. You're lucky your doc progresses you so fast. I didn't get solids til week 5
