  1. I had to do 6 months with my doctor and then another 6 months with a nutritionist because the doctor didn't document correctly (what a waste of time that was) I gained 30 lbs during the last 6 months to show insurance that no matter what I did nothing worked. I journaled everything I ate and exercised and how I felt during the day and what I was thinking and all this bs they make you do. Then I waited and after the nutritionist turned in her recommendation it took the insurance company 1 month to come back with the approval letter. It took 1 1/2 years from start to surgery. Waiting was the hardest part for me too. Good luck hopefully you won't run into the problems I did and it will go smoothly for you.

  2. Some days I have the same problem, it is like I can't eat because nothing will go down and my band feels like it is going to scrunch up it is so tight and I can't eat until later in the day. If you don't feel like weighing yourself don't because you may just be disappointed in what the scale says. Just do the gym while you are away and then get on the scale when you return and be prepared for the results. You should have a great time while you are gone. Have fun.

  3. read everything you can about the surgery and what everyone else is going through. It took me about 6 months to find this website and the weight loss was so slow because I wasn't eating right or taking in enough protein so just make sure you are educated about the Lap Band. That was my mistake. Also if you are on medication, you may need to cut the pills in half cause they will get stuck and that has been an issue in the past with me. Good Luck with everything and I know I was excited when I got my date. Ate everything I knew I couldn't after surgery. The first few weeks after surgery are a killer. Good Job getting approved.

  4. I have 2 different prescription diet pills that I take and I can't imagine going throughout the day without taking at least one. They seem to take that edge off of wanting to eat everything in site and give me the extra energy I need to get my exercise in. I take mine and have a protein shake in the morning and don't feel hungry for another 6-7 hours so I know they work for me. Do whatever works for you and good luck with this journey.

  5. I got the body bugg about a month ago and it does help you monitor where you should be for the calories per day and how much you burn. I only have a problem, my band is slipping where the velcro is and I have had to order another one. So just watch for that. Hopefully it won't happen to you. Do have your 30 min consultation with a body bugg expert because you learn so much.

  6. great choice. My mom had the band and it slipped and she had to have an emergency surgery to get it out. 6 months later and a 50 lb gain she decided to have the sleeve done and it has worked out wonderfully for her. You are doing so good. Keep up the good work.

  7. You aren't alone. I go on here and read where people have lost twice or three times more than I have and it hurts and I feel like a failure too. I don't have a support group to go to so I go on here and get support. I was doing everything wrong when I first got my band and now I am doing everything right most of the time but I do fail at what I eat or don't exercise some days but I get right back on track the next day. You can do this. Just keep going to the support group and don't compare yourself. My surgeon says he wants 1-3 lbs to come off a month and I want that to come off in a week so I am doing what he expects but not what my expectations are of myself. Just try to stay positive and don't be so hard on yourself. We are here for you.

  8. I try to stay on the high protein low carb eating but sometimes I have what I want and when the scale doesn't move, I know why. You can have what you want just a little bit not a whole meal. I've only had to give up shrimp because it got stuck once and I thought I was going to die that way. It took a day and a half before it passed and I was able to eat again.

I only told my closest family members because I didn't want to hear from people that I took the easy way out or I should be losing faster than I am and it's no one business how you are losing the weight. I just tell people that it is because of eating habits and exercise...that seems to make them happy. Good luck to you on this journey.

  9. You have the right attitude to be successful. I have eaten too much so many times before I found this website and have learned so much from other people on here. Sometimes it is like there is a black hole in my stomach and no matter how much I eat it won't fill up so I have to limit myself like you do and that seems to help. You are doing a great job on your eating, keep it up.

  10. I ate birthday cake for 4 days and gained 10 lbs so I know how you feel. I knew eating it was wrong but it tasted so good. Then reality hit and I knew I had to lose that 10 lbs again and boy has it been hard. It finally came off but it took forever. It just wasn't worth it. Good luck to you and just move on so you gained it now lose it.

  11. This happened to me. I was on the pre-surgery diet and we had a potluck at work and I ate a little hoping it wasn't too much. When I told the surgeon he wasn't happy with me at all. He gave me this look like I disappointed him. Just move on and don't do it again. It gets worse after surgery. I remember feeling so hungry, like there was this pit in my stomach that I couldn't get filled up and it was awful but I got through it. Good luck to you and it will be so worth it after all is said and done.

  12. I have the same problem. I weigh before work, after work, and before bed. Depending on what the scale says when I get off work helps me decide what is for dinner. I think the scale is my poison and I can't get away from it. Everytime I get on it, it just stays the same or I am up a lb...it's like it never goes down. The doctor put me on Xanax to help with the anxiety that has been caused by having this surgery. I never feel like it was a mistake but there are alot of mental games that your mind plays on you. My eating habits are either very low calorie or above what I should be taking in daily. There is no happy medium for me. I just have to learn what to do to get this weight off. I'm almost 10 months out and still have this problem. Good luck to you and like Bklynike says try not to obsess over it.

  13. I'm almost 10 months out and can still feel where the band is when I bend over. I don't remember having any pain after surgery, I was sent home the same day I had surgery and was back at work 2 days later so I did very well. I felt it when I wore too tight of jeans though and that sucked because they were just tight around the waste not in the legs or anywhere else. Your pain should get better soon but if not, go see the doctor.

  14. My mother was my inspiration. She had the lap band and lost 140 lbs but then is slipped and she had to have it taken out (gaining 50 lbs back) she decided to have the sleeve done in Mexico. She lost 22 lbs the first month coming home. She is doing great but because she had such success with the band that was how I decided to get it. I have a friend who had the bypass done and has gained her weight back on. What a waste that was. She feels terrible about herself now. I just wanted something I was familiar with and finding this website has been a Godsend because I was doing all the wrong things after surgery. I'm so glad I have people on here that go through the same things that I do. Good luck to you.

  15. I have the same problem but mine is with birthday cake with buttercream icing. I love cake, just birthday cake. I try to limit myself but I ate it for 4 days in a row and gained 10 lbs so I know it isn't worth it but just one taste would send me into overload where I had to have the whole piece. The only thing that helps is to get on the scale and see where I am throughout the day and drink my protein. I weigh when I get up and then after work and then at bedtime. Depending on my weight is the decision maker on what I will eat for dinner. The scale is my poison. Just try to stay away from fried foods because of all the calories and grease, it's not good for you or the band. You have made the decision to get the surgery now use the tool. That is what I have to remind myself. Fried foods are addicting I know but they just add weight to you. Maybe try to take a little walk around the neighborhood with the dog or the husband or a good friend or just by yourself. Good luck and you can always write me if you need some support.

  16. I am in the same boat. I didn't know anything about the band when I got it and thought I could eat what I wanted and still lose the weight, boy was that wrong. I fall off the wagon alot of the time and know it but that doesn't stop me from overeating or eating the wrong foods. You are just in a rut and October will come soon enough so you need to really look at the big picture and ask yourself if it is all worth it when you don't want to exercise or eat the wrong foods. I have vacation at the end of August and I am trying to lose as much weight as possible so I can fit into my vacation clothes I bought last year and thought I would be in now. It will probably take me losing another 20 lbs to get in them but I'm going to give it a shot. Good luck.

  17. Don't be discouraged. I've lost 45 lbs and only 1 person at work has said something about it so I don't know where the weight went but it is obviously not noticeable. What a ding to your self-esteem. I didn't feel restriction until my 8th fill so don't think 3 fills is the magic number for you just hang in there and keep with it. It will all come together. I hate getting fills also, I have had a fill every month since Oct and I hate the routine that follows but it is worth it. Good luck and I'm hear if you need someone to listen to you.

  18. I sometimes wish I would have had the bypass because it is like I'm not losing the weight fast enough but after reading how people gain their weight back with the bypass I am happy that I had the band put in. My mother had the band put in and it slipped and she almost died and they had to remove it but that didn't discourage me because I would have done almost anything to be thinner.

  19. OMG you are doing so good. I look down the road and it seems to be a long hard journey but in reality if I just eat what I am supposed to and do my exercises my goal will be met. You are doing so well, I am jealous and can't wait to say I've lost 96 lbs.

  20. They say muscle weighs more than fat. I gained weight also when I started to lift weights so I've stopped... it is a catch 22, you gain muscle and you gain weight but muscle burns more calories so what do you do? I stopped lifting because I wanted the number to go down on the scale. I only swim now and seem to be losing once again. My skin hangs like crazy now...so I can weigh less and have my skin hang or be fat and have my skin tight. Good luck and don't give up yet.

  21. I'm 9 months post-op and food still consumes me. I think about it all the time. I get anxious if I don't know what I am going to eat at the next meal. It's like I have to plan the whole day of eating the night before or I get anxious and have a anxiety attack. I drive my husband crazy because it is like my whole life revolves around food. How did you get past it?

  22. I like the Bariatric Eating website's INSPIRE. It tastes ok but you get your protein and it has 0-1 carb per 4 oz serving. I can chug 4 oz's so it isn't that bad. Muscle Milk was found to contain arsenic so I don't drink it but I liked it when I did. The pre-op and post-op were no fun because I wanted to go out to eat and live life as I did before surgery but I have adapted.

  23. You are doing so good. I am 9 months out and have lost 18 lbs so you are doing very well. I just started out with the thinking of...I can eat what I want when I want and as much as I want and that didn't help. You are full of inspiration for me. I want to lose atleast 15 lbs by Aug 29th because that is when I go on vacation to Vegas. I will continue to read your blog and see how you are doing. Keep up the good work, you are doing fabulous.
