  1. if you put your mind to this...... YOU CAN DO IT.... Use what's happening with your wife as fuel to get yourself motivated. Get out and get moving..... 12 step programs are great. Good luck and keep us posted.
  2. I will probably get some flack for what i'm about to say.... but sometimes it take a little Tough Love for us to really see what we are or have done to ourselves.. So your topic's name is "Lapband Complete Failure"....... How is the band a failure? It's an object. You are the controller of the band and sounds like in your own words you learned to eat around it. Lots of people learn to eat around the band. Lots of people do, but don't blame the band because ,by your own accords you can't stop eating until all the pizza is gone. And that you can't control eating sweets all day. Well hell how do you expect to lose weight if that is what your doing? Do you really.... have a great desire to be thin? Are is your great desire is to eat a Cake with ice cream? Which one do you want more? You can't have both.... This is how we ALL got FAT... By wanting one thing and doing the other. Are as my grandma says.... wish in one hand and crap in the other... see which one fills up faster. Didn't your doctor tell you that the band is a tool and that it would not take the cravings away. Did you not sit down with the nutritionist and have them tell you how you will be expected to change your entire way of eating.... FOREVER... What were you thinking? And now you think Gastric Bypass is your option.... Do you think that having your stomach re-routed is going to stop you from eating a pizza and sweets the same way you do now? Stop blaming your wife for you getting up out of your chair and going make a choice to eat candy or pie ... or what ever it is she has in the house. In stead, get up out of you lazy-boy recliner, put some music own, and walk down the block and back, until that craving goes away... She is right, why should everyone else not have it because you can't keep your hands out of the cookie jar. You said you have been to doctors, therapists and psychiatrists. What have you learned from them? The band is not working for you because YOU are choosing for it not to work. Did you really pay all that money for nothing? Are will YOU stop making excuses and get off your BUTT and make the changes. No visit to the doctor is going to do any good until YOU want it to work. Stop blaming the band, your wife, your doctor... Hershey's, Pizza Hut, McDonald's .... and everyone else. Take responsibilities for your own actions. And yes support is important, but it can be done with out support from anyone if you support yourself. Ok.... so that's my thoughts...
  3. Because i was right at 40.8 with no co-morbid..... my doctor told me not to lose any weight until i got approved. After you get approved... lose all you want... and i lost ... i think 20ish ... pounds before surgery. I would say.... don't lose any more till you get the final approval and surg. date in stone.
  4. The insurance i have now won't pay either.... so i have to pay everything out of pocket..... What really burns me up is that people actually come on her and ask...... "will medicaid/medicare pay for my Tummy Tuck"? I had to pay $8800 for mine... that i had to get a credit card to pay for... Well no one made me have the TT... but still...... This really chaps my hide... Why should i have to pay for yours too.... just because you don't have a job and won't get off you Butt to get a job and get some damn insurance. I think anyone that pays for insurance and fits the required LB surg. criteria should be able to have it...... It's either pay for LB to get healthy or pay forever for High blood pressure or diabetes meds.... etc... Just Crazy.
  5. Six weeks out today.....I like Spoiltmom.... had minimal pain.... Thank you Morphine pump...lol I was up and walking around my neighborhood in Three days and back to work in 12. I had no drain tubes. My PS stitched from the inside and glued the outside. I wore my "one fish, two fish" pj from hospital and had no problems. By the time i went back to work i could fit jeans over my garment... but still mostly wore sweats...or yoga paints. I still have a lot of swelling, but i feel GREAT!!!! Hope you have a speedy recovery...
  6. Done that..... been there.... I don't handle steak very well either. And i far as left overs.... most of them i can't do. I think it the reheating process that cooks it too much and that dryness of the food creates the stick.... I always have leftovers.... but my husband normally eats them. *****Stick Remedy.....: mix about 2oz of water with about 2 or 3 shakes meat tenderizer and some lemon juice... drink and run to the bathroom....
  7. it all depends on the doctor..... so don't require the diet.... some do. my understanding is it is to help shrink the liver and make it more pliable.... The part of the stomach that is banded is right behind the liver. So they have to kind of move it around to get to the stomach. Good luck....
  8. I thought you were paying $1000 out of pocket. Still that is entirely too much for him to charge insurance...... And people wonder why insurance is so expensive.....This is why, Doctors over charging. while we are on the subject..... it infuriates me to know that Medicaid and Medicare are paying for this and paying for some people to have Plastic surgery after...... I had to pay my own crap... now i have to pay for other peoples too.... so not fair.... And i really don't care if i pi$$ any body off.
  9. Holy Hell..... that is insane.....there is no reason anyone should charge that much. I would check with another fill dr. in your area. And check with the dr, maybe he's telling you what he charges insurance. No one could afford that for each fill. Do some research and find out what other dr's in the area are charging and go in with guns blazing.... Thats what i did, i call every fill dr in a 200 mile radius and ask what their new patient fee is and self pay fills. It was $235....... But i beat him down to $150... with the information i presented him with. And i told him that with the economy, people are losing there insurance and can't afford going for a fill or check up. He eventually saw that i was right and lowered his prices..... yah for me. When something is important to me, i am relentless.....just ask my husband...lol
  10. if i had know then what i know now.... i would have done my breast reduction and lift at the same time as my TT. TT was 5 weeks ago today and the pain was so minimal for me. If you have children and possible had a c-section, i equate it to the same pain. I was up in three days and back to work in 12. I took pain pill for the first three day, mostly to sleep at night which i did in my recliner. I was still walking with a hunch/bend at week one and two, but by week three i was almost walking straight up... week four and five, completely back to normal. Still have swelling in the abdomen... but the scare is healing way better than i ever thought. My dr. didn't uses drain tubes and he also stitched from the inside and glued the outer. So no staples. Good luck with your PS.... Keep us posted
  11. Of course you and i have talked about this but i will share with everyone else in case they are wondering the same thing... He told me the reason he removes all the fill is because of the swelling in the stomach area. He's in there cutting and pulling and moving things around. In fact my port is now right above my navel. it was further up and to my left. He said the added swelling against the band will sometimes create more restriction and you will not be able to eat or drink with out discomfort. He did have a bad experience with a patient that refused to allow him to remove her fill and she ended up in the hospital dehydrated. I just wish he could put it all back in.... this would save me some money.... but he can't. Pulling it all out when the port is right in front of you and after when it's hidden under the skin is two different things. I see now were he was coming from because the two weeks after i did fill like i had fill in my band.... but as the swelling goes down the hungrier i get. Going Friday for my check up... 5 1/2 weeks... so ready to stop wearing this compression garment. think i will wear a girdle for a little bit more..just in case
  12. the heavy one is jealous of you and the thin one fears you...... heavy is wanting what you have done, she probably is telling you that you made the wrong choice in WLS, but deep inside she wants it sooooo bad it's eating her up in side. The thin one was the "skinny-girl" in the group and got all the attention.... now that you are thinner you are stealing her thunder.... and she is not the only skinny-girl in the group any more and because you are feeling better about your self.... your confidence is radiating and men love a confidant woman. They are drawn to you like bees to honey... If they are good friend and YOU choose to keep them as such, i would have a one on one chat with each and tell them up front how you are feeling and that there friendship means a great deal to you.... but you will not be subjected to the way they are making you feel. Surround yourself with positive people. Best of luck ...... happy shrinking..
  13. No problem.... hope i didn't come across as mean.... just wanted you to be aware. Lapband is a HUGE commitment. Lots of do s and don'ts. Lot of variations, what one LB patients goes thru will not be you scenario. Every one is different. Before i had my unfill, i was not able to eat most carbs... excpet baked potatos and some pastas. Other people have no trouble eat anything at all. For me no matter how much i chewed, it would not go thru my band. You will have to learn how to re-eat..... meaning, eating slow... very slow, chewing and chewing and chewing..... taking one bite putting the fork down and chewing. No drinking with your meals anymore. You will have to learn to drink 30 min. before of 30 min after. Most of the time the people in the Chat room can answer some of your questions too. Best of luck
  14. ok, so i'm a little worried that you didn't do enough research if your asking about fills....... Fills are the most important aspect of getting the Lapband. It's the inter-part of your band that is filled or unfilled with saline to cause restriction. I have a 14cc band which mean my inter-part of my band can hold 14cc of saline. there are different size and your surgeon will determine what size you will need when surgery is being preformed. You will then return your your doctor were he will inject the saline thru your port into your band. You will probably require multiple visits to get your restriction correct. I have attached a couple sites for you to check out. http://www.southernweightlossinstitute.com/LAP_Band.php This is where i got my surgery. It's a great video... short but to the point.
  15. so i'm going to be 100% honest with you..... I LOVE MY BAND.... she is my best friend and i miss her so much. She has been empty for the past 5 weeks. can't wait to start filling her up again. But i do worry now about long term problems. What if i have a slip or erosion? I don't have the same insurance, and my new one does not cover WLS.... This is the only worry i have. I know it works... I've lost 84lbs in the past two years. I hate is the going in for fills, not because it hurts but because of the cost..... so if your looking at long term with out worries as far as slips, erosion or fill........the sleeve would be been better.
  16. Embrace the new you.... this is what you worked for.... Size 11 from a 20.... You are not alone.... most of us have body issues. I'm now down to a size 4-6ish and i still see that fat girl looking back at me sometime. Every once and a while i look and i like what i see. It's in pictures that see what i really look like. It's weird because i was not always fat.... i use to be very thin.... like 22" waist thin. And when i started gaining weight i knew that i was but when i looked in the mirror i still saw the thinner person.... Then my husband took up the hobby of photography and i was looking at pictures and didn't recognize myself in a photo and that was all it took. It's crazy how our brains work. i remember emailing my friends and saying..... MY FAT ASS FIT IN A SIZE 12 TODAY.... I was sooooo happy. Ok i know i'm rambling, but i have to tell you this story. My husband and i was trying to buy me a new shirt to go out in and i was in the dressing room. I was not looking for jeans. i had shorts on... picked out a shirt and he said you need to put on jeans so i can see how it looks. So i sent him to get me a size 12 jeans... he handed me the jeans i put them on and we decided that the jeans looked good too... they were buy one get one at new york and co. so he said, look for another pair... i said ok, but i want a size smaller as a goal pair... so i told him to look for a size 10....he like why do you want a size 10...i thought you wanted a size smaller... i said i know, you gave me a 12..... he looked at the paints in his hand that i had had on and said, but these are a size 10.... in the middle of the store... i said..."shut the fu#k up", "you are fu#king kidding me"... i had put on a size 10 and didn't even know it... so i got them and a size 8. In the middle of New York and co... i did the happy dance....... happy happy joy joy.
  17. Good luck to you all..... welcome to the club
  18. wow.... i don't feel so bad now. My doctor was charging $235...... but i had a long discussion with him about the economy and how people are losing there insurance and can't afford that kind of money out of pocket.... If you go back on some of my post... you will see my rants about this... very topic. My victory..... he changed his price to $150 a fill.... total. Your probably thinking.... yeah she thinks she got him to change it..... but i really did. Told him that his prices is what's keeping his patients away. told him that the average in the area was from $99-$150 for self pay. My surgery covered one year or Seven fill.... which ever came first... of course the fill came first....
  19. So Wednesday it will be 5 weeks since i had my Tummy tuck and I can't believe i'm saying this..... but i can't wait to get back to the Gym. I feel so tired and lazy and the daily walks are not enough. It is so true what the say about people never being happy with our bodies. Now that i have a simi-flat stomach (still swollen). I now notice my inner and upper thighs....(guess they were hidden from view by the apron) they are not terrible by any means, but they can use some slimming down with exercise... i can do this...I know i can. Just have to get back into the gym. On another note.... i need a fill.... i have 0cc in my 14cc band. My PS removed it all when he did the TT. I have so been knocked off my "high horse".... I had it in my head that if anything was to happen to my band that i could continue life with out her help....Boy was i wrong. In the past weeks that i could eat all the thing my band prevented me from eating.... I pretty much ate..... Bread, rice, pasta, pizza....OMG what a eye opener. I do need help, I do need my band.... So i'm sending up a prayer ..... Dear Lord... Please protect my band and never let anything happen to her... I need her, i know now i can't do it alone.
  20. i'm so sorry this has happened to you. You have done such a great job with your band. Can they tell what caused the slippage? Will insurance pay for the revision? I'm courious because i don't have the same insurance that i had when i got my band and my new insurance doesn't cover WLS. I completely understand about the food cravings..... i had all my fill removed 4 1/2 weeks ago when i got my Tummy tuck and i feel like all the "bad" stuff is call my name.... Chris, come eat me while you can....lol The other day i ate a hot dog with bun from sonic... OMG it was so good. and i ate pizza with the crust... this has got to stop... Please keep us posted ...
  21. it took me a year to lose 60lbs. and at first i was discouraged until i looked at my before picture and compared it to my one year picture.... Then i saw it.... the newer me and i liked what i saw. I never saw it in the mirror, but i saw it in pictures. Go back and look at your before and look at where you are now.... Like Love said... don't think... I ONLY lost 48lb... think I lost 48lbs and i will never see them again. 48lbs that's an average of 5.3 pounds per month... that is right on track. One more thing. I went to my plastic surgeon and he told me that it's best to lose slow like i did because the skin goes back better. Stop comparing your self to others. It will drive you crazy. Every one loses differently. If you are still not happy with your weight loss, look at what you are truly eating and are you giving 100% at the gym. Just because you are going does not mean you are giving it your all....
  22. just wait till you start really shrinking and you really start to feel sexier..... the libido will come back. If not.... go buy yourself real sexy underwear .... that will help. Nothing makes you feel sexier than losing the "granny panties" and being able to go to VS to buy underwear. That was one of my goal..... to be able to were sexy underwear. We went from having sex 2-3 times a year... yes i said Year..... too.....3-5 times a week.... yes i said week... happy days
  23. i was going to take out a personal loan.... but the interest was too high even with my excellent credit. So I went to my bank (Chase) and open a Slate card with 15 months 0% interest. Monthly note... $80bucks. But i'm going to pay $200 so i can get it down. If i have a balance at 13 month, i'm going to switch to another 0% card.... So if all goes as i plan... i would have paid no interest or finance fees... I think that is a great idea.... start yourself a TT fund. Kind of like a Christmas Club....LOL... wish i would have done that. You are doing so great with your weight loss.... and your so pretty, i can see why your husband wanted you to stay.... Fluffy. I'm sure your are having men hit on you already....
  24. Good luck..... welcome to the club...
  25. Age 43, starting weight 223 5'2"...... current weight 139. I just had my Tummy tuck 4 weeks ago today. My PS said ideally his patients are with in a few pounds from a Normal BMI... which i was and has had a steady weight for at least 6 months.... which i did. I went in at a bmi of 25-26 and had been at 144-145 for six months. I'm so extremely happy with my results so far. I'm still swollen, but it is so much better than i ever expected. Pain was about like my 2 c-section and only took pain meds for the first few day... mostly to sleep at night... which i did in my recliner for the first few. I was back at work at my desk in 12 days. Cost was $8800, which i put on a 0% interest Chase for 15 months Slate card. Monthly payment..... $80 per month... but i'm paying $200 to get it paid off. If for some reason i can't pay it off in 15 i'm going to do a balance transfer to another 0% card... hopefully if it works out the way i "plan" it .... i will have paid no interest or finance charges. I did post some pic, but only for friends... so if you want to see them.... friend me
