Well, the one that was very detailed about her diarrhea was an older woman, and the one that said she was in the hospital actually was in the hospital (she showed me her discharge papers). I guess the older woman could have been lying, but she didn't strike me as the type, since the older students are usually my best ones.

Why, for Pete's sake, do my students think I want to know about their health issues? I mean, I DO want to know if they are going to be missing class, but I don't want to know every single detail about their diarrhea or how they've been in the hospital because they haven't had a bowel movement in two weeks. Haven't they ever heard the expression "too much information?" I just want to say, "Thanks for telling me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go stab my ears."
  3. The period between your surgery and your first fill isn't about losing weight. This is when you are supposed to allow your stomach to heal. It's not that much longer until your fill. Just try to watch what you eat.
  4. Not that brand, at least. I still have a bunch of other samples to try, so I'm hoping the others are better.
  5. Well, I have a recommendation for a brand you shouldn't try, Protein Delite. See my thread here for details.
  6. I had ordered the mini protein sampler (without the book) from BariatricEating.com. It came with a bottle of Vanilla Very Berry Protein Delite On the Go, where it has a premeasured scoop of powder in the bottle and you just add water and shake. Apparently, this brand has chunks of stuff in the powder, freeze-dried fruit in this case. I just tried it, and it is pretty damn disgusting. The flavor of the actual protein drink is not horrible (not good, either), but the problem is the chunks. I have found that I don't LIKE chunks in my protein drinks, it makes me gag. Plus, it looks like vomit. It mixes up to a grayish-purple with dark chunks in it.
  7. You know, Wheetsin, Carlene, Tired_Old_Man, etc? Everybody's missing!
  8. I don't really have a set appointment. I just call and make one whenever I feel like I need a fill. But I figure that since I have to be in Memphis in October for my nutritionist appointment, I might as well make one for the same day to get a fill, just to save a trip. I think that's what I'll do. With my luck, I will probably have to wait a couple of weeks to get an appointment for the fill anyway, so I might as well go ahead and make it for the same day in October as my nutritionist appointment.
  9. I've had two fills so far, for a total of 1.8 cc in my band. My surgeon put 1.4 in the first fill and another 0.4 ccs with the second one. When I went for the second fill, she could only draw back 1.0 cc, but she said not to worry about it, that that happens with many people. After the second fill, I had really great restriction for the first few days, but I definitely feel looser now. Right now, I'm debating about whether I should go ahead and make an appointment for a fill or wait to make one for the same day I go to the nutritionist for my 3 month post-op checkup in October. I REALLY want to get the fill as soon as possible, but it is a 6-7 hour drive, you know? And with gas prices the way they are, it's hard for me to justify making the trip twice within a couple of weeks. On the other hand, if I wait, that's an extra couple of weeks without optimal restriction.
  10. Do what GR8 suggests, and if she still doesn't come around, tell her, "I'm sorry that you don't approve, but this is my body and my life. You've told me your concerns, now respect my decision."
  11. Yeah, definitely sounds like a doctor to avoid.
  12. Ditto! Although, it is a bit like passing a car wreck on the interstate. You can't help but watch.
  13. Like other people have said, I'm sick of hypocrites. You know, those folks that use the prejudices of other people to make their careers. Then what do we see? Those people are exactly what they speak so strongly against. It's disgusting. I'm also sick of people who act like they are oh, so holy, and that their shit doesn't stink, yet are the first to attack people who don't fit into their white, heterosexual, conservative Christian world. It's the ultimate in hypocrisy, in my opinion, and those people are completely undeserving of even an iota of respect.
  14. I think Boo Boo Kitty is in the right here. Like it has been said so many times on this board, people should follow THEIR surgeon's instructions, not other people's surgeon's instructions. Telling someone that they can absolutely do something and have no adverse reaction is wrong. There is no way around that. It doesn't matter if your doctor says you can do it. Her doctor may not agree. The correct action here was to tell the OP to ask her surgeon.
  15. That sucks, that they'd put officers before women and children. Oh well, that's the military for you, I guess.
  16. Hell, my boobs have NEVER stayed up, and I'm only 24! That's why I'm really considering a breast lift/augmentation once I reach goal. It'd be nice to have perky tits for once in my life.
  17. I vaguely remember reading stuff about Belite (at least, I think it was Belite - it could have been another group with a similar name) that was very unfavorable, back when I was first looking into surgery. I don't want to go into details about what I heard, just because I'm not 100% sure that it was that group.
  18. I have had way too much caffeine this afternoon, and it's all starting to hit me now. I went to Starbucks on the way home and got a venti vanilla iced coffee and downed it in less than 5 minutes. Guess I was thirstier than I thought!
  19. I find it very interesting that the posts by B A looser and mylap-band are almost identical in appearance. It's pretty darn unusual to have two people with such similar posting styles, attacking the same person in the same thread. Methinks there's something fishy afoot. And dude, I think you can give up now, since someone posted the email that they received, confirming WABB's statistics. Obviously, she wasn't wrong. "Less than 4%" generally means, "between 3% and 4%." Otherwise, they would have said, "less than 3%" or, "less than 2%."
  20. It's going great! My students are pretty good and I'm getting better at lecturing. The hardest part so far is my time management. I have a hard time with determining how long it will take me to go talk about things. Occasionally I don't lecture long enough, but I'm getting better at it.
  21. Hi! I'm a new bandster myself, so I'm just welcoming you to LBT. I've met some really nice folks from Port St. Lucie! When I interned at a wildlife refuge on Cape Cod in 2004, the couple that ran seal-viewing tours off of the refuge lived in Port St. Lucie during the winter months.
  22. Sometimes, people will find that their bodies actually need more calories than they're taking in. If you don't eat enough calories, your body will think it's starving, so it tries to conserve them. If that happens, say goodbye to weightloss! What a lot of people recommend is to vary your calorie intake a little. Eat 900 calories for a few days, then maybe 1200 for a few days, then 900 again, just so that your body doesn't get used to one routine.
  23. Yes, we will! Hell, we'll have to plan to go sky-diving together in a year or so, when I hit goal (hopefully).
  24. That's another thing we have in common, Bubble. My reward for reaching goal is to go sky-diving. I have ALWAYS wanted to do it, but I've always felt too embarassed to try (didn't want to try to find a jumpsuit that would fit me).
  25. I ordered some roasted almonds and some pistachios through the internet and I finally got them today. They are SO good, and they really seem to help my hunger. Whenever I get a little hungry, I grab a small handful of them (maybe 4 or 5 nuts). That way, I get a nice boost of protein and I get to chew something at the same time (one of my issues is feeling the need to chew). Plus, it satisfies my hunger for a few more hours.
