  1. Monkeys completely freak me out. I don't get the appeal of them. Nasty, mean, disgusting animals. I mean, I can understand wanting to study them, in science, but owning one as a pet? You HAVE to be kidding.
  2. See, that's where we differ. I don't think anyone is completely evil, and I don't think anyone is completely good. I like to try and figure out why some people are willing to go to certain lengths that others are not, just to get the same things that we all crave to a certain extent. Why do some people murder people for $5 when other people won't? I don't think it is a simple as saying that they just don't have values. Why do the lack those values? I ask questions, that's just the type of person I am. I feel the need to understand and to learn. That's why I'm getting a Master's degree and will probably go on to get a Ph.D. I enjoy learning, even if it is just learning about why people use certain reasoning.
  3. And that's what makes us all different. All some people want to do is meet George W. Bush. I really don't have much interest in him. Other people obsess about celebrities and become groupies to the point of trying to have casual sex with them. That disgusts me. If we all shared the same interests, the world would be a very boring place.
  4. There's complexity in everything we do. No two people have the same motivations behind their actions and behind their reasoning. That's what makes it interesting. If we could just say, "well, this is why someone does this, and that's why everyone else does it, too," the field of psychology wouldn't exist. I mean, obviously, power is a huge motivator. But what makes them want that power so much that they do the things they do? That's what is interesting.
  5. I'd like to know what their thought methods are, you know? How they think, how they reason, what makes them different from other people.
  6. I agree with you to a point. I agree that these are both evil, evil people. But I'd like to know why they choose certain actions over others, why they behave the way they do, what brought them to the point they are at. I'm curious. That doesn't mean that I condone their behavior.
  7. And the fact is, they are historical figures. Just because we don't like our history, doesn't mean we get to deny that they have had HUGE impacts.
  8. Oh no, I DO know about them. It just doesn't make them any less interesting to me. In fact, they're interesting because they are twisted. What's the fun in learning about something that's every-day normal? Think about it. If you were really into psychology, would you rather study someone who is as "normal" as they come, or someone who has odd habits, hang-ups, and strange behaviors?
  9. Finally, another snake lover! My family thinks I'm nuts. I don't have much interest in owning them, though. I prefer cuddly animals, like cats. I had a baby black rat snake for a little while, but my cats were giving it a complex. They liked to sit outside its container and bat at the plastic, so I set it loose.
  10. Well, not all of us were born in Cuba or lived under his regime. I'm not going to apologize for having an interest in psychology and sociology and how people reason and justify their actions. It's interesting to me. Sue me.
  11. Look, whatever you may think, it's an interesting situation from a psychological standpoint. Wouldn't you ever want to have the opportunity to go up to historical figures and figure out their reasoning, ask them why they do things, get their outlook on certain things? It doesn't mean that you AGREE with them, for Pete's sake. It just means that you are curious. Seriously, consider it like watching a documentary. You don't watch documentaries on the Holocaust because you actually ENJOY seeing people massacred, burned in ovens, gassed. You do it because it's a learning experience.
  12. I've noticed that the times on the board seem to be about 20 minutes slower than real time. For example, someone will make a post and it will have appeared when I refresh a page that I've been on a short time, but it has a time stamp of 20 minutes ago. Is that something that can be fixed?
  13. I really don't care, to be honest. Hell, I'd probably go meet him. too. Whatever you may think about him, he'd be an incredibly interesting person to interview and do a little "mind-picking," just for the sake of doing it.
  14. Wow, this is a surprisingly hard question. I love the east coast. I fell completely in love with Cape Cod when I interned on it in 2004, so if I could live there, I'd definitely pick Massachusetts. Of course, I loved the Cheseapeake Bay area, too, so I could easily live in Virginia or Maryland (as long as I lived on the Bay). The Everglades are great, so I could live in Florida, too. Again, as long as it was coastal. I don't feel a huge draw to the west coast, honestly. There are a few places I'd like to visit, but I don't know about living there. I'm more drawn to to certain areas of certain states, and I'd be quite likely to completely refuse to live in a state if I couldn't live in that area. Take Florida, for example. Unless I can live in a coastal area, forget about it.
  15. Sadly, very true.
  16. Well, I would have liked to keep it a secret from people, with only my closest relatives knowing. Unfortunately, my parents decided that they had the right to tell anyone and everyone about the surgery, so now the whole family knows, along with many of my parents' clients and friends.
  17. And they are VERY interesting. Too bad they can't be linked from certain messageboards (not LBT). If they could, it might open a few eyes!
  18. Yup! And then we get to mock the dumb-asses. :whoo:
  19. But seriously, neveragain, I know how you feel. My dad has three degrees. My brother also has three, including an MBA and a law degree. My branch of the family is apparently the high-achieving section of the family and I get a lot of pressure to excel. It's like, "Your dad and your brother did this and did that. Now what are you going to do?" You get so much pressure to succeed that you feel like you have to do it better and faster or else you're a failure. It's not enough just to do something, you have to do it better.
  20. I guess I'm one of the minority. The thought of marriage is actually unpleasant to me, honestly. I truly get the creeps every time I think of getting married to a guy, settling down, and having kids. I like the thought of being able to quit my job and move to a new town without having to consult someone else. Most men (at least where I'm from) expect their wives to be "the little lady" and do all the cooking, all the cleaning, stay home, etc. I'm just not wired like that. I'd go nuts and kill him or shove a pot roast where the sun doesn't shine.
  21. Try Dr. Curry in Cincinnati. His office is a center of excellence. Here is his website: Trace W. Curry, M.D. Lap Band Surgeon :: Home
  22. Yep, avoid collagenic protein like the devil, along with anything that lists calcium caesinate as an ingredient. Both are VERY low quality sources of protein.
  23. The only vanilla shake that I've liked was the IDS Vanilla Cinnamon, but of course, it isn't plain vanilla. And like I posted, it's better suited for weight-lifters than bariatric patients. Have you tried the new nectar Vanilla? I've heard that it's pretty good.
  24. If you haven't posted it here, you need to. I loved that post. It really did a great job at answering all of the questions that newbies SHOULD be asking.
  25. What really bothers me is when people post proudly that they just had a fill and can't eat more than a tablespoon at one sitting without PBing or barfing. Or when people complain that they are too loose because they can eat a whole 1/4 cup of food. Even I, as a newby bandster, know that you should be able to eat at least that much at one sitting, if not more.
