An early birthday present!
Congrats and Happy Birthday/Banday! I wish I had done it on my natural birthday. I would have considered that to be the BESTEST (ooh I sound like Angelica on the RugRats)ever birthday.

Need advice--from band to bypass???
I'm not expert at this but I would think if you can't lose weight with the band, you will have a difficult time losing and/or keeping it off with any other procedure. The will to lose weight begins in the mind. That's the whole purpose of the Psy. evaluation prior to LB surgery to determine if you are ready for the changes necessary . If your thinking and way of eating doesn't change, surgery alone won't cause weight loss. If you watch the current season of The Biggest Loser, you will see there is a man on there who had the RouenY Gastric Bypass surgery and is close to 400 lbs. You absolutely 100% MUST make changes with any procedure or it won't work. I have looked at the lapband as a "tool" to assist me with my weight loss and trust me it's not easy. You must put forth an effort to change your diet and exercise and the lapband will work for you. The key is YOU got to work it for it to work for you. I hope this helps you with your thought process. You can still lose weight with the band but you must be willing to change your diet and get an exercise regimin going. You've heard the saying "Fail to Plan and you Plan to Fail". Good luck in your weight loss endeavors. Frank Lloyd Wright: I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and a devotion to the things you want to see happen.

Let's talk about POOP...FLOATERS OR SINKERS
I was told the other day that healthy poop floats. They say it tells you that you are getting enough fiber in your diet. I was told sometime ago that your poop should be the consistency of mashed potato's and I don't think mashed potato's float. Does anyone know what a "healthy" poop should do; FLOAT or SINK and what should the consistency be or does that matter?

Getting banded 2/23 in a wedding 3/7
2 weeks post op I felt great. You should be just fine barring any complications. Just follow the instructions your Doctor gives you and should do well. Good luck.

Post OP....How did you feel 72 hours post op??
I was sore a week out but since you don't mind being sore, move forward with the surgery if you're comfortable. You'll do fine. Those who don't know will attribute your not eating with the sorrow in the loss of your grandmother. My condolences and prayers!!!

An obervation on what scared most of us before our Lap-Band surgery.
I didn't add that to my reply to this thread, BUT OMG YES, I too have ALWAYS been scared of not making it through a surgery and especially weight loss surgery. That too was a fear. Thank God I came through and am having GREAT success with my band. I LOVE MY BAND and God for giving someone the brains to invent it.

An obervation on what scared most of us before our Lap-Band surgery.
Honestly, my biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to eat one of my favorite things "steak". I have not found that to be a problem as long as it's cooked medium and I chew small pieces. I haven't had many problems with many foods and I'm pretty restricted.

Any Wii Fit Users??
I saw online where the weight limit was 300 lbs but my husband is 312 and works out on it with no problems.

Any Wii Fit Users??
I have the Wii system and I absolutely LOVE it; however I view it as supplemental exercise. I do not use it as my main source of exercise as I don't believe it will help maximize weight loss results. In conjuction with Wii I do Zumba, Body Pump, Body Flow, Boot Camp, Eliptical and Personal Training sessions. I need to add more weight machine workouts. I'm losing a steady amount of weight. Continue using Wii but make sure you get other forms of exercise as well. What is your FAVORITE Wii fit exercise? Mine is HULA HOOP.

grapefruits?
Ashley, I tried both grapefruits and oranges for the first time since being banded and they are both fine to eat. I had no trouble. Chew, chew, chew.

Do you have gas more since lapband?
It makes you wonder. (LOL) By the way, I didn't meat to say soy fruit, I found a soy/oatmeal/fruit/nut bar that was really good. This too shall pass, no pun intended.

Do you have gas more since lapband?
Right now I'm on a fast that animal product restrictive. I've been juicing fruits and vegis, eating brown rice, beans, vegetables, fruits, wheat or brown rice pasta, tofu, oatmeal, nuts, soy fruit and nut bars, soy or rice cheese etc... I'm not sure what it could be out of all those things except for beans but I'm not eating those daily.

Do you have gas more since lapband?
I have gas just about everyday now that I've been banded and it's so much worse than before banding. I'm just wondering if this is normal and does anyone know why and who else is having the same issues? My husband is totally disgusted and can't believe this nastiness is coming out of me. What in the world can I do?

Has anyone tried the WAVE?
I bought it and it's still in the box. I am contemplating sending it back for a refund. I have a gym membership where I like the group fitness classes and my home gym has a treadmill, recumbent bike and weights. I'm thinking I don't really have time the WAVE.

Surgery is tomorrow....I'm really nervous!
That's so normal. You'll be fine. Do something to take your mind off of surgery. Get that anti nausea meds and you'll do great. I think I was so geeked and ready, that I didn't have time to be nervous. I remember they carted me off to the surgery room, had me move over to another table and then put a mask on my face and told me to take 3 deep breaths and I only remember the 1st. Next thing I knew they were waking me up after surgery. I really didn't feel pain until later that evening and even then I was so on top of the pain meds that it wasn't that bad. Good luck.

what offensive things have people said to you while on you weightloss journey?
My reply to her would have gone something like this "Girl, I'm due in February", what about yourself?

Starting my journey...would love some feedback!!!
I had surgery in Sept at the ripe age of 44 and was very concerned with the rate I would lose. Thank God it has been very successful. I think the main things are diet and exercise. Not that you have to be so strict, but getting your protein and veggies in and cardio with some strength at least 4 days per week. Congrats to all the ladies in their 40's and still losing. Keep up the good work.

6 days post op and hardly able to eat...help!
Awe, I'm sorry you feel like that. You will be just fine. Trust me, I regretted it for 2 weeks after the surgery. Now after 3 months, I feel great and steadily losing. It is tough in the beginning though. This too shall pass. Yes, to my surprise during my first fill I believe they said I had .3 cc's in my band already. I was shocked. Hang in there and stay positive, everything will be alright. Congrats on your life changing surgery.

6 days post op and hardly able to eat...help!
That's normal. I was like this post op for 2 1/2 to 3 weeks and then the hunger came in like a flood. Fortunately my Dr. wanted me to have my first fill right at 4 weeks post op. You'll be fine. Congrats on your surgery and be sure to get some exercise in. It's a new day!

grapefruits?
I've never heard you couldn't eat them. I'm about to go eat a grapefruit in a moment. I'll let you know if I have an adverse reaction from them. I certainly will not be eating the skin, just the meat of the grapefruit. Just precautionary as I don't do well with apple peel.

Vegan low carb recipes??? ANYONE???
I'm on a 21 day Daniel fast which means I can have NOTHING from an animal. Most items though are high in carbs and I would like to keep that to a minimum (below 100 grams). Can anyone help me with some recipes or suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated.
