I love finding people with whom I've got something in common! I'm an engineer, too. Or at least I was until I took a hiatus to raise kids. Now I'm an accountant. (Numbers only, people! I'm not good with words!)

It sucks that every once in a while the hunger makes a resurgence. I am sorry you got into that situation but it's understandable. We're human, not perfect, and very worthwhile.

I’m 5 weeks post op and eating solids. All clean Proteins, fruit, veg etc. I eat until I’m comfortably full (550 cals daily approx). I drink all my liquids between meals. But I feel like after an hour I’m starting to get hungry by 2 hours, maybe 3 my stomach is starving! Can anyone recommend something that will make me stay full longer? It’s pretty inconvenient lol

I invested in some pretty expensive clothes / coats because I thought i would be that size forever. When I had to give them away I had a small moment when I wished I could still fit them. Other than that no.

@blizair09 I understand the need for a break from BP--especially as vet or even someone post surgery who's doing well and living life! But selfishly, I'm glad you're back and hope you will stick it out here. Maybe you guys will rally and get some vet action going on your board?!
Thanks for responding here. It's very beneficial for us pre-ops and noobs. I do appreciate that it takes something from you to participate (and to participate on the same damn questions ad nauseum. LOL.)! Your weight loss is pretty phenomenal. Super congrats on your continued success. Tell me, do you work out? I think @BigViffer also eats really dense nutrition every 2 hours maybe? I can't remember if any females do that same thing? I know @jess9395 and @jenn1 are intensely active, but wonder if the same rules apply across gender?
Honestly Bliz, I am in the terrified camp. It's hard to imagine how the surgery will truly help take my capacity for eating away. But I'm ready to embrace the idea of food as fuel, rather than entertainment or a drug. I don't want to become a statistic--so I feel I need to get as educated as possible so that I can recognize the traps and pitfalls that exist post-surgery. How much of regain is under our control? It sounds like quite a lot of it is? But I am certain there's not a hard-fast, elegant solution. I think probably many many things come into play--some under our control, and others outside of our control.
    Thanks again for participating!

I had the sleeve at 19, I was terrified of the bypass because I was nervous about them touching my intestines, but now at 22 after weight gain and awful heartburn that led to stomach ulcers, I will be converting in July. Just looking for anyone who may have converted, what was different post op with the bypass than post op with the sleeve?

timetraveler reacted to mylighthouse in Source of pain finally found - can't believe it is from CPAP!
Wow, good for you for figuring out what the problem was. It is great that lowering the pressure on your machine has helped you feel better. And yes, it really stinks that noone informed you that changes needed to be made to your CPAP settings.
Very glad that you shared this information. I am getting a little steamed, because I think now, after reading your story, that someone should have adjusted my settings as well.
I continue to wear my CPAP every night after being diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple of years ago. I was 334 lbs or so when starting treatment. Now I am down to 190 lbs. Four or so months back, when my mask started fitting poorly because of the major weight loss, I went in to eee the CPAP tech. I told her I thought I needed a smaller mask. She didn't change the mask size, but did give me new headgear, which has resolved mask leak issues, for the most part. I was having trouble and continue to have trouble now with coughing while wearing my mask and it can get pretty bad....sometimes it brings me to wide awake, pulling my mask off frenzy at 3 or 4 am. My pressure is set at 17. That's where it has been since 2 years ago when I weighed 334. Now why the HECK didn't my tech change my settings a few months ago when I sww her? Seriously, some people and their lack of knowledge, concern, care, incompetence or whatever the heck it is really irks me!!
I know what I need to do.
Thanks again for taking the time to share.

Me too. I worry about this still - last night, craving “a treat” I had 4 cherry tomatoes. When you aren’t eating sweets, these are deliciously sweet and tasty (cold from the fridge - it was 95 degrees here yesterday!)
Can I be a person who has cherry tomatoes for treats, instead of a bag of crisps or a tub of ice cream? Well, not choice. I now have this surgery, my new tool...

When was everyone able to eat ice cream? I like the Mochi ice cream when is green tea ice cream wrapped in rice paper but idk how well I’d do with that. But I heard halo top ice cream is good but I’m scared to try it. Also what are your guys thoughts on Protein Bars?

What about Protein Bars? Jerky? Those foil packs of tuna that don't need to be refrigerated? These are things that would be easy to carry in case you don't find suitable food there. I will keep thinking on it.
Oops. You may want to skip the tuna

timetraveler reacted to DropWt4Life in 9 months post-op....weight loss stopped and frustrated!!!
In order to give the best advice, I would have to know a bit more about your journey. Is the weight loss in your profile correct at 30 pounds? What do you actually eat in a day, and is that consistent? You can hit your Protein, and Water requirements by eating burgers and drinking water every few hours, so I would need to know more.
I will say that a 30 pound weight loss in 9 months is rather slow if that is the case. You should probably get with your nutritionist to make sure that your eating plan is on point. If it is, then I would follow up with your doctor. There can be a lot at play here. You can be eating too many calories per sitting, and not moving enough to burn off the excess. You could be eating the wrong types of foods. Some spike blood sugar, and some do not. You could have underlying health issues that haven't yet been determined, like a thyroid issue, for example. You could have a gluten sensitivity, but be eating lots of bread. There might even be a combination of these things and others not mentioned. So, I would hit up the nutritionist first, and if find that you are doing everything right and still not seeing progress...I would definitely follow up with my doctor for consultation and additional testing.
To the other poster, keep doing what you are doing. Stalls are going to happen no matter what you do. Your body is adjusting to these changes that you have made in your diet and/or exercise regimen. You will no doubt continue to lose inches during this time so don't fret. You will continue your descent in no time.
    Good luck!

Well, I'm 2 weeks out (RNY Nov 27), feeling really good. I did have 1 episode of dumping, NOT fun, but I look at it as a learning experience. Don't go 5 hours without eating, you will eat too much ! I have been taken off all the diabetes medication, (Yay, that was a huge motivator for this whole process), and am monitoring my blood pressure. It seems consistently low, so I may be off those when I go back to the Dr in January.
I'm starting my 2nd week of pureed foods, doing well, although it is a bit boring. I am down 22 lbs as of today !! Woo Hoo !! I already feel like I'm winning !!
How are the rest of my November buddies doing?

It's definitely not a "never" thing for sleeve patients, but it is much less likely to occur in someone who's had a VSG than someone who's had a bypass. I'm sorry it's happening to you!
Also, I have reactive hypoglycemia and it feels VERY much like dumping but I've had it for years...happens when I eat simple carbs.

Thank you but tracking doesn't work for me with such a busy day. Even in the beginning I didn't track. I think I was more focused on losing weight not to have back surgery. Talking to others helps which I haven't done in a very long time!!
I went shopping this morning for the reset this week. So far just having the liquids the last two hours my pouch is gurgling so I'm hoping it works.
