...so today, I told my mother in law that I was having WLS and getting sleeved Friday (28-Jul). She told me to save myself the recovery and just stop eating french fries. Where was that helpful information all along?!?!?! LOL
In all seriousness, I am in the process of getting approved for time off after my surgery and the short term benefits manager at my company literally told me that if I utilized the work gym, I wouldn't have to take time off to "deal with this now".

Seriously, WTF people. Its hard enough making the decision I made, so not very thankful for the peanut gallery!
I am trying to stay positive and blocking out all the judgy comments. I am hoping that will be easier when I can rock an "I told you so" body.

...I started exercising a few weeks ago. I noticed the same thing. I found on the days that I am super hungry all day no matter what I eat or drink, I lose a large amount the next day (~1 lb) on the scale. When it happens to me, I double down on my Protein Shakes to get some extra Protein in, try to drink more Water and try to enjoy my metabolism finally figuring out how to work again good luck!

Congrats! That is awesome - a huge accomplishment! Today is my 1 month surgi-versry too...its so odd, some days I feel like my world changed so drastically and on others, I feel like nothing happened. I am down 28 lbs since my pre-op diet. My clothes feel bigger on me but no noticeable difference in size. I just got cleared to start exercising and looking forward to it. Congrats again on the awesome milestone! Keep up the good work

I think I'm doing good. I feel good that's for sure... eating most anything well. tuna hits a bit heavy so I just can't eat much that...I can see my clothes getting bigger and I can even fit in the bathtub now which is like awesome...But still can't see it myself in photos. Not sure why. I'll try and get some photos uploaded on here.
    Had my surgery on 7/17/17.
I started at my highest at 315 and down to 255. My first mini goal is to be 250 for my birthday...October 13th...I'll be 45... and two days later will be married for 23 years to the love of my life who has supported me on this journey from the beginning. It makes a world of difference to have someone who supports you. The hardest thing is I do miss eating out. It was a BIG part of our entertainment. Trying new places. I dont miss food... just the going out and the experience. plus my husband... he supports me totally... But he isn't in the best place himself. At over 350 he needs this too but is afraid. So trying to find new things to do can be a challenge.
Hope everyone is doing well on your journeys. Love reading on here. It's an amazing group.

Next week I will be 6 months out, I have lost 88 pounds and feeling great, still only about to eat about 3-4 ounces. Have chest days every now and then but everything is on track. I have a love hate relationship with my decision bc sometimes I feel so restricted but then I look at this and now I can run with my kid and play and not get out of breath!

you haven't lost more than 2lbs in 3 months. You might want to call your dietician's office to reevaluate your diet and exercise.
Check your dietician's instructions that you were sent home with. Make sure you are eating and getting the correct nutrition in. Check your Protein goals 60 to 100grams. check how many carbohydrates you are allowed on your plan. Carbs can trigger hunger and cravings. Carbohydrates will slow and can stop your weight loss. Extra carbohydrates will cause weight gain.
In food stage, there is no need to get Protein by drinking shakes. Fish, chicken, turkey cheese yogurt eggs..etc...Only supplement with a shake if you're not hitting your protein goal for the day.
Are you tracking your food and hitting your protein goals?
Here is a link to my fitness pal to help you track. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/mobile/android
4 oz Ruftys low car meat loaf = 243 calories
    string cheese = 80 calories
Steal cut oatmeal = 152 calories
1/2 subway multigrain flat bread = 110 calories
fruit roll up = 80 calories
PROTEIN = 36G (you didn't hit your protein goal of 60g to 100g) Protein will help you to feel full.
CARBOHYDRATES = 73Grams. (Your getting more carbs than protein.)
    Calories = 665.
hitting 800 calories is pretty normal in the first few months.

I'm about 7 months post op and understand your struggles. One of my 1st questions after surgery to a friend who had gone through it was "How long till I can eat something that actually resembles a meal?". He said it took him a year, at 7 months I can almost put a plate together that looks like a meal. You have to remember that your relationship with food wasn't good before and HAS to change after surgery. If you don't change your way of thinking about food, you'll end up right back where you started (eventually). Going out to eat was a big mind game in the beginning because you're finished when everyone has just started to tuck into their food. Use that as an opportunity to initiate conversations that you normally wouldn't have because you were "into" your food before. I like to sit around and watch everyone eat and look at the amount of food they're eating and think how many calories they're taking in and I'm not! Good luck!

mytime4me reacted to Introversion in 8/21 sleeve, PMS gain? Anyone else???
I gain anywhere from 3 to 7 pounds in Fluid weight during the monthly cycle, which disappears about a week after the first day of my period.
I only weigh myself once a month, about a week after my period ends. Weighing in more often isn't going to make the scale's number move faster, but it does create anxiety for some of us.
Here's a great posting regarding weights and the scale:

mytime4me reacted to clk in If you gained weight back, How did it happen?
I'm 7 years out. I had one period of small regain - 8 pounds, after my dad died and while I was suffering postpartum depression. It was solely due to poor eating habits.

Regain is due to not overcoming the initial causes of our obesity. Eating around the sleeve. Yes, injury, illness or medication can be responsible - I don't want to rule that out. But most often, when you see regain, it's slider foods, not eating by the hierarchy so you feel full faster and you eat more, and just plain eating crap. Binges and grazing, emotional or mindless eating - if you don't fix this, you don't get long term success. Period. It becomes a struggle to stay at goal.

I fought hard for my new habits. I think every time I put food in my mouth. My diet is carefully selected to be balanced and nutritious; I avoid binges, I don't graze. With this, I maintain successfully and have for years now.

I had therapy. I firmly believe that many of us need to deal with what's under the fat and causing us to overeat in order to achieve this level of success and to stop looking at food for solace.

Although I have not regained any of my lost weight, I can answer this question.
Here's a hint...regaining weight is never really about the food itself. Many people undergo weight loss surgery without resolving pre-existing psychological issues.
Many bariatric patients are emotional eaters who have always used food to cope with stress, grief, boredom, joy, pain, and life itself. They lose massive weight after surgery, but regain once the next crisis occurs such as a death, job loss or divorce since they self-soothe with food.
Many bariatric surgery patients are hardcore food addicts. They lose significant weight after surgery, but regain once they add addictive trigger foods back into their diets.
Many bariatric surgery patients have undiagnosed binge eating disorder. They lose significant weight after surgery, but regain once they start binge-eating again.
Many bariatric surgery patients experienced childhood trauma such as growing up around domestic violence, alcoholic patients, or drug-addicted parents. A large number of obese people (especially females) were sexually abused in childhood.
Those with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) often drown out the bad memories of their upbringings with comfort food. They lose significant weight after surgery, but regain once they revert back to food to deal with the uncomfortable memories and flashbacks.
So when someone posts she's regained all her weight after experiencing some emotionally traumatic event, she often asks about getting "back on track" to lose the regain. What she really needs is counseling to adopt healthy coping techniques that don't revolve around the comfort of food.
Success with weight loss maintenance after surgery is 90 percent psychological. Those who fail to address underlying issues will continue the regain/loss cycle.
After all, it's never really about the food. Regaining is a symptom of a deeper problem.

It gets easier. The first week is super hard. Your body is adjusting (and pissed) and it seems like everyone struggles with different stuff (shakes, Water, liquids...). Don't beat yourself up, take it easy. Do the best you can while you heal up. Before you know it - the shakes will go down smooth and you will be introducing new stuff. Try to focus on keeping hydrated and getting rest. The other stuff with come... GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

Here's the deal. You have to decide if this is what you want to do and if it is going to be worth it to you. Only you can make that choice. You are discouraged over a 2 week diet when you haven't even had surgery yet. The ups and downs you are going to face going forward will make this seem like nothing. Are you ready for that? You must decide.
I don't say this to discourage you more. Having weight loss surgery is the best decision I ever made. But I have learned from people on here and others I have met that it is not for everyone. Either go all in and truly commit yourself or don't, but do not ever assume it will be easy. This is not magic. You will feel terrible. You will have long periods of zero weight loss. You will question your decision over and over and over. You will hate what you are "allowed" to eat and crave what you can't have. It sucks, but that is the truth.
Having said that, I would do it all again. For me, it was 100% worth it.

Youll be fine, I had some regrets the first few days, but it passes. Look at your ultimate goal/goals. Youll eat everything you ate before, just much less of it like a normal human being. Look at my picture, does it look like I regret it?

Hang in there, everyone talks a lot about the three week stall...don't get discouraged. I was sleeved on the 29th and I am trying to keep a positive outlook...I lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet but since the surgery (3 weeks ago), I am down almost 10 lbs. Pre-surgery me never had luck losing 3 pounds a week and keeping it off - so I am trying to focus on that....but it is hard when you read about how weight is flying of people and wondering WTH is going on!!!!!
    Keep at it

I never set a goal with the surgeon. The nutritionist said I would probably level out between 175-204. I'm currently 210. I'm just aiming for below 200. As outsidematchinside stated I was just trying to get healthy. I'm off of 3 diabetes meds and 2 blood pressure meds. It has been a blessing.

I saw my primary care physician a few weeks ago. I weighed about 225 or so then. He said I had a long way to go and should get around 175. I was thinking more like 190. I've lost almost 100 lbs since pre-op. I'm 5 months out. I don't have too much loose skin. So I don't care to weigh 175. I'm just happy to be healthy and able to keep up with my 4 year old. That's pretty much all I wanted. Looking good is just a bonus.
