  1. Hey band sistas, congratulations! I'm glad to see you both are doing so well. I would be better if I could get rid of this gas. OMG!
  2. ebonyrose I agree. I started nesting like I was pregnant. I bought food for my clear liquid and full liquid post op diet. I cleaned and organized my kitchen cabinets, put a new comforter on my bedand cleaned carpets. I even bought several new pairs of pjs. It all made time pass quickly plus I felt more confident going into surgery.
  3. please don't have fear. I know its a normal reaction but know that God is able and true. I just asked God to guide my surgeon's hand. I told the anesthesiologist to knock me out but bring me back!
  4. Hi everyone! My surgery went well yesterday. I was extremely sore ( thank God for liquid loritab) gas hurts the worst. The strips are not working. I have been walking a lot to ward off blood clots and it moves the gas around but not out! I can't drink much. I think because the gas hurts. I'll keep posting updates. Please give me advice on this painful gas. This is some bull shiggity!
  5. Girl, I know I have been there! Just hold on to your faith, be persistent, and jump through those hoops. Your day will come. My hubby was my only support until recently when I told my mom (3days before surgery) now he can get back to football- go Buffs...

  7. God is merciful and blesses your intentions. Such mercies include feeding the hungry instead and making up those days missed. Good luck on your fast.
  8. Good morning! It is 7 AM and I am getting ready to report to the hospital. I am not nervous at all! I started this process last Nov./Dec. so I am definitely ready. I feel so prepared. I will be recuperating at my mom's house until the weekend. I have several new pairs of pjs that I bought (i love crisp and cute pjs) things fr my clear liquids and full liquids. If I could just get off of LBT and go take a shower. Good thing it takes me about 10 min to get to the hospital... I'll be checking in from my iphone so I can post but won't be able to input my beloved smileys TTYL!
  9. Hey I see that you are getting sucked into the "are we ready for a woman vp thread." I spent some time there also. My advice? DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT. I swear the things that people believe and try to justify. Getting a point of reason across is like hitting your head against a brick wall. Good luck! I'll peek in on you from time to time. Just to see if you are keeping your sanity while you are over there.
  10. Great post seattle sweetie!
  11. Welcome back girl! Get that ticker up and let's lose some weight! Ready, set, go!
  12. When I was locked I used the Dr. Bonners (Sp?) peppermint or lavender. It was great. I also mixed essential oils like Vitamin e, peppermint, and jojoba with olive oil. I would also boil chamomile tea and used it after I shampoo then rinse. Ya girl had long gorgeous locks that went to the middle of my back!
  13. Good luck ladies on your journey! I started this process back in December ( I had to do the 6mos diet) and will be banded tomorrow. Jump through every hoop that they give you, actually stay one step ahead. If they require a sleep study go ahead and schedule it now. Do what to have to do to realize your goal!
  14. What are you gonna do? It must be nice to have in-laws that you can share that with. The bigger the support system the better.
  15. Thanks Tammy! Where have you been ? You know I have dubbed you the mama of the group.
  16. Wow! so does that mean that they charge you a different rate if you are self pay?
  17. I bet African Americans that came decades before us would loved to have benefited from that reasoning. Perhaps lives would have been spared and dreams would have been realized. Those rules were made by jim crow/ segregationist state and local governments of the U S. Its part of our painful and embarrassing history. I hope that with this election Americans will show our nation's true growth and movement towards change.
  18. definitely pjs with bottoms no one told me this and i was self conscious that i would give a peep show!
  19. re: "Those programs instilled little of benefit and did much damage to the then-relatively intact social structure of inner city families." The "hood" called and said that they did not authorize you to issue that statement on their behalf.
  20. sassy, that is sad and sit-comish at the same time. I'm glad that you feel better. You took it like a champ!
  21. Good for you for sticking to your guns. If you are anything like me, you value your mom's opinion and definitely want her approval. I hope that she comes around. Believe me, I was SHOCKED that my mom was so cool in the end when I told her. She even said that I was smart and she knows that I did my research. She was extremely proud when I told her that I started a forum for women of color (telling her that was a pimp move on my part to try to earn some browning points.) I guess that we have to accept that we are doing this to change our lives and just because someone isn't 100% with us doesn't mean that they are against us. But... peach cobbler? Danggg-stay strong my sister.
  22. I always wondered as I was going through the approval process what my out of pocket expense(s) would be. I have bc/bs of Alabama PPO (PEEHIP). Here is my breakdown:sleep Study Dr. Visit $20 Copay Required Support Group Free Nutrition Class $60 copay Out patient Surgery (Hospital Services) $75 Copay (100% covered) Out patient Surgery (Surgeon's Services) 100% covered Fills 100% covered no limit) Fills Dr. Visit no copay first 90 days $20 copay thereafter Total out-of pocket (excluding $20 copay for future fills)= $335 The cost of being healthy? PRICELESS I hope that this estimate helps anyone with similar questions. I am really thankful to GOD that I have good insurance. Since my husband and I both are public school educators we combine our allocations and the state pays our premium. Translation: We pay $0 monthly premium for family health insurance!
