auntjanny got a reaction from Kindle in Lifting a 40 pound bag of dog food after losing 40 pounds
I bought a bag of dog food today that was the same amount of weight as what I have lost since surgery 9/22. It was great to have that kind of a tangible object in my arms to realize what I have lost. It made me that much more motivated to rev things up a bit.

    Hi all,
This is my first post. My surgery is 4/8 and I am starting to have this overwhelming feeling (and sometimes dreams) that my surgery won't work and I will have done all this preop for nothing. I guess I can't grasp that I will feel full after 1/4 cup of food. It's so hard to imagine. Did anyone else feel like this? I'm worried to the point of actually canceling to avoid the surgery. I know it's probably a silly fear but it's a fear nonetheless. I also started the two week preop diet about 4 weeks ago on my own and am losing consistently. I've lost about 20 pounds on my own since mid-January. I don't know if that's contributing to this feeling? I'm so nervous! Help!

auntjanny reacted to GreenEyes604 in Finally I can actually see a difference...
I know that those of us who have already had VSG surgery go through the ups and downs of how much weight should I have lost by now, do people see me any differently when they look at me, why can't I see much of a change.
A very dear friend of mine told me when I first started my journey to be sure to take pictures, take pictures, and take more pictures. This would be the way you can really tell how much thinner you are getting, and how much your body has actually changed because when we look in the mirror, we so many time still see the fat person we were before surgery because our minds haven't caught up with our bodies yet.
I know that I still have quite a ways to go, but putting my pictures side-by-side today, I could actually see a BIG difference, and it made me feel really good. So if you are feeling like a Debbie Downer, and questioning whether or not you did the right thing, hopefully you have pictures of yourself you can go back and compare. Put them side-by-side, and I guarantee it will put a smile on your face.
I also want to give a big shout out to a few ladies who have been nothing but positive influences on me during this journey, and I'm only 3 months post op! Thanks and much love to @@LipstickLady , @@bobbyswife , @@Elode , @@proudgrammy , @RJ'S/beginning , and @@Kindle . You guys have helped me in ways that you will never know, and I can't thank you enough for your encouragement and support.

Just hang in there!! Use the stall time to reinforce good eating habits and better life activities. If you aren't losing weight, unclutter your environment. Clean up the pantry, straighten the linen closet .... Honest, I lose 2 pounds a month since November. If it weren't for these other activities, I would go mad!! Mad, I tell ha!!

A year ago today, March 5th, was the date that I began my 6 month medically supervised diet. I thought it was a pain and hated the thought of having to go through 6 months of waiting, and recording everything I ate and did. It was actually a good thing though. I learned so much during that time period about myself, triggers and preparing myself for what was lying ahead of me. It is crazy to think that I have been on this journey for a year and my surgery was just about 6 months ago. I'm down a total of 73 lbs, with only 20-25 lbs left!!! When I look in the mirror, I see ME again. Not the stranger that I didn't recognize anymore. Who was she? I have my confidence and health back again. Really, the list goes on and on. Oh. My. Gosh. I feel so amazing!!!!

I enjoyed the posts for persons who are around 5'5" and would love to see responses from the shorter crowd! I am 5', in the morning. I have been heavy so long I have lost perspective on what I should weigh and what it looks like!!!

I'm 5ft, and have lost over 100lbs so far - my boobs hang, there some loose skin on my butt, but what I hate the most is the skin on my arms and my over hanging belly... in saying this though I have noticed some improvement on my arms in the past 6 months since I started putting more body butter on them and really rubbing it in... I'm 2.5 years out now - so improvements do come with time... no change on my belly though - think that will have to be a tummy tuck.. I think everyone may be different.

Love this post because this is exactly what I am going thru right now. I am 5 1 1/2 and I am at 125 lbs. My husband and true friends think I am good where I am at and don' t need to lose more but my surgeon and I picked 115 when I started this journey. (I m very muscular) Maybe 120 would be more realistic and give me a 5 lbs spread. but love seeing what everyone else is thinking. I have an apt on 2/24 and I am over 45 years old.

I don't see myself doing any plastics and figure I'll just use compression garments underneath when I reach that stage.

Do you have much hanging skin? Any idea how many pounds this would account for?
I think I'm going to look like a deflated balloon the lower I get. This really is ok with me since my goal is is health not appearance. I'm wondering though how many pounds of "skin" I'll be left with.

I'm 5'3" and now weigh 121, down from 244. I am not extremely thin now. I think strangers probably see my current size as unremarkable. My surgeon's goal was 135 and my own original goal was 125. I'm hoping to reach 119 so that when I increase my calories in maintenance, I'll have some bounce room.
Edited to add: I'm 61 years old and exercise only lightly.

65% of pre-surgery weight is standard and how my surgeon arrived at 165 as a weight to shoot for. Of course, most people want to lose more. But that is the average.
Twice as an adult I got down to 135 but I couldn't maintain it. My objective is really less a particular number on the scale. I'd like to resolve the medical issues I have and find a healthy weight I can maintain.
In the end I think my sleeve will let me know where my weight is going to settle. ????

My surgeon told me when I ask to take it "as it comes." My body will tell me....that probably I will go lower than I expected and then have a 3-5 pound rebound...then plateau. It is at the point of the plateau that I will know. I know from remembering how I looked and felt that 125-128 feels very good to me....esp. when I am working out a lot which will be what I am doing. I thought it was good advice.
