auntjanny got a reaction from LoBMI VSGguy46 in Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve
I had a BMI that was 36.6 but, in honesty, I probably could have claimed an inch higher in height than I did. My surgery was 4 weeks ago. Just coming out of a stall, and have had a 20 lb weight loss. I have not recovered quickly. I still wear the binder almost all the time. I have not yet begun formal exercise. I am in need of a three or four pound loss, mentally. I expect to lose weight slower but had expected to recover very quicklime due to lower BMI. No food issues with unpleasant consequences yet

Um, no, parents have to pay if kid takes up more than one seat space. If kiddo can't sit still that encroaches upon another. Of course the big guy is going to face the same potential issue of having to buy an extra seat. Not sure that height matters on a plane as much as width, so he tall leggy guy likely does not get a heads up. I am not saying it is right that seats are so small, but, I am in no way allowed to make others uncomfortable because I am plus sized. It is my burden.

But, if I am too big to fit into one seat and encroach upon another passenger's space, it is my responsibility to be pro active, and considerate of other people and consider flying the airlines with larger seats for purchase or by purchasing an additional seat.

I do think some folks don't know how to respond to info that one is going to have WLS. Saying "you're not THAT fat" seems an auto response and one we should never take personally. On this site, I have seen BMIs all over the board, some of which I might say. "OMG, you are not THAT fat!" And that some might say the same thing to me of my BMI. Bottom line, we all know the similar history and self hatred.... We want to be better. To be whole. Thank goodness for BP!

I am not sure I have great advice but I don't want your question to go unanswered! I would say you took the first step by coming here and asking for help. My number one piece of advice is go see a therapist if you can at all. That will help. (Call your surgeon for a referral of someone who works with bariatric patients.) At the very least, seek out a local support group if you cannot go to a therapist. Secondly, maybe try a reset by just doing shakes for a few days and go through that "withdrawal" of the addictive foods again. That may help you get back to where you were in your mind the week before your surgery. Spend some time during those few days really thinking about why you did this and how far you have come. Every time during those few days of shakes that you want to reach for food or think you are hungry, go lock yourself in your room or in your car or somewhere away from food and really concentrate on your accomplishment this far. Why did you have the surgery? What was your first big NSV? What was your favorite NSV? Write it down. Start a journal and turn to that journal instead of eating.
You have lost 105 pounds! That is amazing! You have the drive. You can totally do this!

Wow. I had to reread your post to see if I had written it! I am in a similar situation. Have been obese forever. But with BMIs in low 30s. A hysterectomy and lack of attention to exercise and eating well caused me to balloon up and I have been miserable. My BMI is around 36.5 to 37.
I have no obvious diabetes or sleep apnea so co morbities were high blood pressure and gerd.
I did not think I would be approved and just in the last half hour, received a call that I was indeed approved! I am in shock. I am
    52. So may be too old to be a buddy to you, but, I am so glad to know others are pursuing this before all hell breaks loose in the body.

I need someone out there to tell me I'll feel so much better in a couple of days.
Btwn gas pain, incisional pain and nausea, I am hating myself for doing this.
I loved Water pre-op and can barely sip it without becoming nauseated. The pain med I was sent home with is some God awful cherry flavor.
Everything I can have right now makes me absolutely sick.
It's going to get better, right??

I want to thank all of you! I am slowly learning to accept me for me. As many of you know, it is easier to say I lost 88 pounds than to see it. I do, but my brain doesn't accept it as well as it should. About my mom....I appreciate all of your kind words. She was a huge part of our family and we are all learning to adjust. Cancer is a horrible thing.
I just finished my associates degree over an extended period of time, work full time as well. Now in August I will begin my journey towards my bachelors degree. I am double majoring in Human Services and Psychology.
Proudgrammy: my hubby is VERY helpful! He though also works full time and has also started working towards a degree, Our boys our almost 15 and almost 14 and they are both active in school and sport activities. We balance the best we can around our hectic schedules, but he does help.
I will be making some smaller goals to work towards, and I will be looking into the Labor Day Challenge Jane13, I don't know what this is. I am interested though. I have considered the 5 day pouch test and I am going to be looking into that as well. Anybody do that?? I have a hard time with the Protein drinks, they taste horrible to me...sadly. I might revisit them though and see what if any that I can get down. lol
Again thank you ALL for your help and kind words! It feels great to know that there are those out there who are going through the same thing as you and who support you.

Went to my WLS introductory class on 7/17/2015 and that afternoon emailed my PCP to refer me to the bariatric program. Yesterday I called Kaiser to see if they got my referral. At first the receptionist said no, but then she found it. Said it usually takes 3 weeks to get the referral and updated into the program. She said I was in the program and my surgery orientation is on August 11th. Still don't know what all they will require of me but I guess I'll find out at this next mandatory class. I'm so excited. Glad I didn't wait for the doctor office to call me. I need to be pro active and make sure things get done.

Thank you all for posting!. I am so grateful to hear that there are people who are in the exact situation that I am in. Low BMI (35), same health issues (bp, chol, knee, apnea, etc), same concerns about telling/not telling. I'm scheduled for the end of August and was beginning to lose my resolve to go for it (in the works since Feb) until the local group meeting this evening and then this website!. I am now so psyched I wish surgery would be tomorrow AM. I'm 65 and I want to let there be pictures of me for my children and someday grandchildren. For years I've just torn them up.
The one nagging concern I hope someone will weigh in (ha ha) on is a fear of gaining it all back. What do you do to prevent it? How do you stay psyched? How, after a time, do you convince yourself NOT to have that bite of cheesecake?
