My surgeon believes only 3 days of Clear Liquids will get you ready for surgery. I tell you this because it's possible any number of pre-op regiments work. So stop beating yourself up, stay the heck away from the pie, and move on!!!!
Remember pie will make you dump! Your new pouch will help you avoid cheating, unlike your current stomach. It will be much harder to cheat which may help you break the bad habit. you gotta break the bad habits because the pouch won't do it for you long term.

My Surgery is on Wednesday, which means I've technically been on the Protein diet for 11 days.
In that time, I've cheated three times, but each time, in a VERY small and hopefully controlled fashion (small plates, eating very slowly, quitting very early).
When I went to the hospital training session last Friday, everyone in the room mentioned it and what we were told was that the diet is necessary and prescribed for most, by most doctors, but they understand that you just have to "do the best you can".

I had gastric bypass in Feb 2009 so it's been a while. I still can't get this new lifestyle thing perfect. I get sick a lot for eating the wrong things and eating too fast. I want to start measuring my food, but need to know what is my start up amount? Do I measure everything or do I weight everything? How much should I be eating this far out?

I don't have an exact date yet, I am on a little weight loss regimen pre op and need to lose 10 Lbs before surgery. I am down 7 already and have 3 more to go. My follow up is on May 8th so wish me luck on those last 3 Lbs in one week's time! If I come short I'm hoping he will be a little kind to me for I did really try hard. I haven't eaten any sugar in 18 days now.
Wishing you well on your surgery!

@@LilMissDiva Irene , you are doing great with the weight loss, only 3 pounds to go, you got this, but I am sure your doctor will be kind when he sees you have tried your best - in case you wont lose the last pound! I hope he will be able to give you a date so you will have something to look forward to. I can only imagine your discomfort now with the GERD. Even with my big tummy my GERD was bothering me, I was not going to risk having it even worst.
Things will work out soon for you just be strong now and keep your eyes on the prize! I know it must be very hard to go under the knife again especially because you have been very successful with the sleeve...unfortunately it looks like that surgery was not the best choice for you.
Before you got the sleeve, did your doctor informed you about the risk of GERD, and did you have GERD before surgery? My surgeon was pushing super hard for the bypass and I just kept talking about the sleeve, and he was really pissed off with me He said he does not want to give me a surgery that will make my life a living hell. He actively advocated the bypass for me...I am glad I accepted his opinion and trusted him.

I understand. The one thing I get here is everyone is different with the post surgery. Keep a positive outlook once you wrap your head around it. I can't wait to see you succeed!

Sometimes when I look at people's stats I have to remember that a lot of folks are required to follow a wt loss plan for 6 months prior to their surgery. That is included inn their wt loss stat.

Purple Iris, This for me is the complete opposite. I am the one feeding a big family and constantly trying to please all tastes especially with my picky kids.
I have always struggled with them eating fruit and veggies and when I talk with them about eating better. Well I'm like a pecking hen in their ears. I'm slowly trying to get them to eat different things. My husband is not so picky and prefers my cooking than going out. Because I will be on liquids when I come home I am thinking of ways to make hearty Soups that will work for me to puree but yet they can eat whole. I make things like vegetable beef, white chicken chili w/northern Beans, etc. That way I can take a bit out to puree it and add more broth and poof my supper is complete There will be times they will want different like Pasta, I will have to work around it like taking my veggie puree and adding broth to maybe make a simple Soup for me while they eat pasta.
I guess I'm trying to say you can still have your dinners together just have to get through that icky liquid diet before hand. Sorry I'm rambling.

Good Luck to everyone with upcoming surgeries. The waiting for it is the worst part but after the surgery a new life marches on. I have two bits of advice. First follow your doctors plan unless he is a quack and says stuff like, " Eat lots of raw pork and smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day." Second, this is your individual journey. I can tell you I would get upset reading posts of people saying stuff like, "oh, I am 2 months out and I have only lost 69 pounds." They'd act like this wasn't good enough and here I am struggling to drop 30. It was like a knife in the heart. So I made a decision and stayed away from the boards until I got confident in my own journey. I am all for people losing 69 pounds in 2 months but I wish they would state it positive like, 'I can't believe I have lost 69 pounds!" I be , "You GO Girl!!!" So if read the post from people after don't let it chip away at you because its your Odyssey not anyone else. Stay away from those posts and keep positive in every ounce that you shed. Once again I will be thinking of you on May 6 and 7th.

I also was prepared to have the sleeve, until the results from my egd came back I have Barrett's. My doctor also advised me gastric bypass was the way to go. I was very bummed cause my sis n law had the sleeve and she looks fantastic. After just 9 mos she's at her goal.
The doctor went on to tell me it's the shape of stomach that makes the sleeve a bad choice making Barrett's/Gerd/Acid reflux worse and with Barrett's lead to the next stage cancer. Before I left his office I was on board with the bypass. I know I need a tool and I certainly don't want the sleeve and risk getting cancer.
This site has helped me know I made the right decision hearing that they are fully recovered. My bypass surgery is set for May 7th, a week from today.
Let us know what you decide.

New things have popped up. Don't want this to be a TMI moment, however, when they said everything would change, they weren't just a whistlin' Dixie.
I really didn't have liquid elimination after the surgery. I do now. It seems all that happens is my stomach and things lower churn and gurgle.
Which I do admit, I find amusing. It churns especially when I drink Water. I have learned.........whatever you do, don't fart!!!
The other new thing that just started is burping. I burped a lot before. Not so much now. I am 5 weeks out after surgery. The new thing is I am finding it difficult to burp sitting or stand. I'm burping only while laying down on my right side only. So, every night after I lay down on my right side, the burping starts. It makes me laugh because it's so odd and I didn't feel the need to burp before. So after eating lunch today, I had to lean over the right side of my chair at work to burp. It made me giggle. Now what new joys can I look forward to experiencing? LOL
Anybody else developed some new odd quirks?

To me, I'm still the "fat girl" I was in 2009 (prior to my lapband). Thought once I got down to within 20 lbs of my goal wt (I'm now 10 from there), I would start to feel different. But I still feel the same. Still see myself as 250 lbs in the mirror.
TMI warning: Last nite, as I was getting ready to have sex with hubby, I undressed in front of the mirror. I saw my saggy belly and started crying. Tried to press it down to c what my belly would look like flat. Hubby walked in. Totally blew me away with "Ur beautiful. And ur NOT fat"
I guess sometime u just need to hear it from someone u luv. It still amazes me that a size 8 jeans fit me (coming from a 22). I don't believe it sometimes, I hafta look at the tag everytime I put them on!
Good luck at ur new job. I'm very open with everyone who'll listen about my wls's (lapband in 2009, sleeve revision 9 mths ago). I have an extremely overweight cousin who's considering the sleeve because I've inspired her.

Thanks Tebowfan, I'm on the bottom of bmi scale for that surgery and weigh 300 like that woman at your class. In my reading it does seem similar to GB except no dumping. Ahhh off to read more! Any DS'ers out there?

I choose gastric bypass over other types of weight loss surgery because it had the lowest rate of revisions. If I go through the surgery once, I never want to go through it again. It also produces the most dramatic weight loss and the weight drops off the quickest. I also had acid reflux before surgery. One of the drugs they prescribed for me for the first year after surgery was Omeprazole (which can be bought over the counter as Prilosec), which is for acid reflux. They prescribed it to promote the healing of my stomach. I think that is routine. Anyways I am 11 months post-op and heartburn has not been a problem. As far as dumping caused by overeating, yes it can be a problem. But before you hit the dumping stage, your body warns you that you are reaching your limit.
I also had an addiction to sweets prior to surgery. But I stay away from them now. I try and limit my intake of processed sugar and opt for synthetic sweeteners. But sometimes by accident, I do consume greater levels of process sugar than my body wants. It seems that my reaction to this is not dumping but rather diarrhea and a bit of stomach ache.
