Caffeine can cause dehydration and irritate the stomach. That's why my surgeon said no coffee at all the first 5 weeks and now I can have Decaf only.

DL is right though. You're surgeon is there to help. I know for me I started counseling prior to starting the process and all during it because I knew I had to work on the head hunger and reasons I ate in the first place. It sure has helped! Lots of good books on it as well.

I'm 11.5 weeks out and FINALLY feeling the same way. All the antibiotics set me back a bit but, took the last of them a few days ago. Finally feel good and more balanced. Now working on building up the exercise and logging my food now that I can actually take in more Protein.
Congrats and happy you're feeling great!

You tell them the truth....you're eating healthier foods and in smaller portions, drinking plenty of Water and exercising. They don't need to know about surgery unless you feel you want them to.
THIS RNY is far, far, away from any diet I've ever been on. It's taken pre-mental work, pre-research, pre-testing etc and now all the post stuff...post mental stuff, post appointments, blood work, Vitamins etc. Far from easy! We're just fortunate in that we don't feel the hunger that we did prior to the surgery. For a while anyway but, even that will come back but, hopefully we have all the good eating habits we need by then

You can use SF puddings to help flavor your shakes and there are flavorings made by Cappella that help too. Torani also makes SF syrups.< /p>
I love the Capella drops...they have so many flavors..my fav is a chocolate shake with 8 drops coconut flavor and 8 drops toasted almond. Tastes like an almond joy.
I've also used a tablespoon of natural Peanut Butter or two tablespoons of PB2 Peanut Butter powder. It's peanut butter with the oil taken out and is in powder form. It adds Protein with all the fat.

Just tell them the truth and let them know you'll need their help afterwards. Go with the questions they have after that. Let them know you're doing this so that your knees, back, blood pressure (whatever reasons you have) will get better and you can do more with them when you're all healed up. Let them know they helping around the house while you're healing would be such a big help and help them decide the right chores they can do. It helps them feel part of the process Kids always like to help mommy

Stepped on the scale today and YIPPEE finally hit the first goal of 50 pounds off. It's been slow but, understandable with all the dang antibiotics and issues but, finally off the antibiotics and feeling good. Naturally I would love more off than this but, at the same time I'm extremely happy. We all look at each others weightloss and journey but, in the end we're on our own journey. This I know and keep reminding myself. This helps keep my sanity on the weightloss and better health journey. One day at a time, one meal at a time, one forkful at a time and I'll get there. Thank you all for your support and friendship here at RNYTalk. I'm truly enjoying it all and saying my thankfuls for each and every day.
Even the days when the scale doesn't move, the antibiotics, the infections etc....I know this was the right decision to better health.
Hugs to all and I'm here for you too!

My nutritionist said up to 14 grams of sugar or less and only 5-6 grams of fat per serving allowed. Sugar in yogurt and milk is different than table sugar as well.

But you're 34 pounds thinner according to your ticker. It's worth it girl!
Oh my first period was awful too...cramps galore. At first had me worried because I haven't had cramps in quite a while but, when you figure all the work done in there.....yup I can see why it happened.
Hope you feel better. Oh and.....when you can have solids (don't know what stage you're on) make a pizza using a low carb wrap or tortia I make them and they're great. I control the sauce and cheese to keep it healthy.

It's going to be here before you know it. Take the time to prep your home for your return after surgery. Try all kinds of Protein Shakes, Vitamins etc. and have them ready. Take a peek at the nutritional papers if you were given some and get the foods they recommend. Pick out a good book, chapstick and pack your bag for the hospital It will be here quick! Congrats!

Just remember you're healing inside and out....there is a reason for the liquid and you're doing great! Let them eat pizza and whatever else it is. It doesn't mean you'll never be able to have it again....it will come in time but, for now you're doing what's best for you!
I know it's not always easy....and we can't expect the people around us to stop their normal routine...we can only go along with it knowing we made the right decision and we're getting healthier.
You can do it girl! We're here for you!

Talk to the professionals that are on your surgery team. That's what they are there for. I don't think there is one person on this forum who is not willing to give you all of the support that we can. But the vast majority of us are not doctors, psychologists, physician assistants and nutritionists. We are not medical professionals with years of education and many more years of experience helping folks just like us - and just like you. You undeniably will not be the first person to ask for their help and you undeniably will not be the last. You are on a journey of lifestyle change. This may well be your first and possibly biggest challenge - find the courage to ask your team for help. You'll be glad you did.

LosingItForMe2011 got a reaction from sharoncarrie in Pre-Op Liquid Diet - Cant Stomach This! :(
Hi Sharon....so sorry you're having a hard time. Every doctor's requirements seem to be different. Mine didn't even require a pre-op diet other than to lose 10% prior to surgery. Basically she told me to try to lose because it would shrink my liver making it easier and safer for surgery. I know a few folks here did have to go on a two week liquid diet such as you...hopefully they'll be able to help with input.
Just know its not forever and you're surgery will be here before you know it. Hugs

LosingItForMe2011 got a reaction from DLCoggin in Can Personal Technology Stop The Obesity Epidemic?
Nice article. I think technology helps quite a bit. Heck we're here and it's one of the most supportive and knowledge heavy places to go besides you're own surgeon's office of course.
How big a role does technology play in your weight loss journey? Well when I'm diligent in tracking my food, I do take in my Protein better. Without technology I wouldn't have met YOU online and gathered lots of great information and thankfully to technology Alex gave us this beautiful site to use.
Do you see that role increasing? Decreasing? Why? More than likely increasing because the world just becomes more and more tech savy. A wealth of information is at our fingertips and as those fingertips revolve and want more technology...it's provided or invented I like the idea of receiving text messages to remind me to eat, drink or exercise. How do I sigh up?

LosingItForMe2011 reacted to DLCoggin in Does Size Count?
" Riis and his colleagues have completed studies at Panda Express, a chain Asian fast food restaurant, showing that customers will often accept an offer to reduce the size of a calorie-filled side dish (such as rice) to cut more than 200 calories out of their meal (some also received a small discount on the meal for doing so). The offer was much more successful than menu calorie labeling at getting customers to eat lower-calorie lunches."
Very interesting article on the psychological side of over eating. We are slowly starting to see an increase in the amount of research done in what may be a promising and overlooked part of the equation. Have you switched to using smaller sized plates? Have you ever requested a "down sized" meal? Which idea makes more sense to you - menu calorie labeling or smaller portions?

I'm a size 12. That's smaller then 15 years ago. I bought a size 7 in jeans because I want to be a size 7 in the future. I also have like 3 jeans in size 10.

Small world Don! How many other members do we have that want to meet?
I can say one thing...if we meet up we should bring the Protein, Vitamins or diet foods that we tried and didn't like to see if the others would like them. I hate throwing stuff out that is still date good. I have Isopure in grape and fruit punch, Protein Powder pouches unopened, B12 lozenges and a few other things I don't use. Heck I have Syntrax Twisted cherry and Fuzzy Navel I opened but, only took a couple scoops from because I tried one and gave some to my neighbor because I just can't drink it. I'm willing to share that too.
