I had the same thing. the greek yougurt was the easiest to eat as well as scrambled egg (after the Fluid stage) yet other things like pureed meats, pudding , refried Beans were difficult. your stomach will tell you what you can have. for me yogurt saved me becasue i was having a tough time getting enough Protein.< /p>

Thanks everybody! I have an answer to the mystery... Not a stricture, fortunately. I have a kink. Fluoroscope showed kink causing me to reflux and empty more slowly than I should. Certainly answers why I felt like it was impossible to get enough Fluid throughout the day despite always having a bottle of something with me. Doc said that usually just doing an endoscopy and passing the scope into the stomach straightens it out and solves the problem so I can continue on my merry way. Sooo... we scheduled my endoscopy for tomorrow morning and with any luck, my kink will not be a pain in the arse! They gave me a couple liters of IV fluids. I've peed a lot, have less of a headache, and feel slightly less fatigued, but am still having some nausea. Seems to flare when Fluid or food hits my sleeve or I'm slumped for a few minutes, so it's probably just sensation from my kinked sleeve. At any rate, hopefully starting tomorrow, I can start getting consistent fluids on board and can start having regular meals again!
    Thanks again, all!
    VSGJourneyGrandma,
If you are newly having trouble getting things down, definitely call your doc. They want to hear from you and want to make sure that it gets figured out. My doc said if I ever feel worse about something as time goes on instead of better, that is definitely the time to call. Even if it were to be a stricture, they can usually do a balloon dilation or something to stretch it out. If you are struggling with fluids in particular, you'll eventually hit a point of dehydration that you'll need treatment, so better to check it out early rather than late. I probably waited longer than I should have, but I didn't really realize anything was wrong until I got hit with the dehydration symptoms.
    Good luck!

I'm 53 and also 5'4" I started at 238 but was 227 at time of surgery which was two weeks ago today. I'm at 210 today. I feel like I dieted myself fat so once I reached that high point I just knew I couldnt do another diet. I'm very glad I chose this route.

My dr and nut said when you are on full liquids, the ban on liquids during meals doesn't matter since the full liquid diet moves right through and don't hang around. Once we get to soft food we have to start with the no liquid during meals. That said, doctors vary, so I would ask your nut for clarification. I am supposed to keep to around 4 oz for Soups, which is about what I do. Can't get much more down, unless it is broth.< /p>

I was surprised by the anesthesiologist recommending an epidural to me. This occurred as soon as I entered the surgical ward. I'd never had one and the thought of it caused me a small amount of anxiety but I chose to go with his recommendation because he indicated I would have significantly less pain after surgery. I'm thankful I did because pain-wise I was really in pretty good shape. The epidural itself was not painful just unexpected. I guess I like to know ahead of time what to expect. It was all good though.

I got the bariatric chewable from Twin Lab from Vitamin Shoppe. 60 of em for $12. Not a bad deal. And they taste better than the Flinstones chewables (which my dr doesn't recommend)

donamay reacted to gamergirl in Post -Op Soft Foods my favorite, easy, Crockpot chicken curry 21 gms protei
My dad arrives from India today so I have to make something his 90-year body (and teeth) can enjoy, AND tomorrow is soft foods day for us! yay! We were told to eat meats that were out of a crockpot or pressure cooker so they were soft. So here goes.
This is massively modified from Anupy Singla's Indian Crockpot book a) not make enough to feed the entire state of Texas and not to blow the roof off your head with her version of spice.
I'm Indian. Believe me when I tell you, this is the BEST chicken curry I have ever had and the EASIEST.
    Ingredients
    1 onion peeled & quartered
    5 garlic cloves peeled
2 inches ginger root sliced roughly
    2 tomatoes quartered
    I tsp salt
    1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
    2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala, can buy ready mixed or I will post my fav, easy recipe shortly
    1/2 cup greek yogurt
    1.5 lbs of chicken, skinned
    1 bag of baby spinach
    1 2 inch piece cinnamon
    4 green cardamom
    2 whole clove
    Method
    1. In a food processor, grind together everything except the chicken and the spinach and the whole spics. Make a nice, smooth paste. This may take a few minutes, be patient.
    2. Put the chicken pieces in a crockpot, and pour over the yummy-smelling sauce you just made. Add the whole spices, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves.
    3. Chop up the spinach and add during the last hour of cooking.
    4. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 6.
Us Sleevers may have to eat the chicken without the sauce and eat the sauce separately or something.
Makes 6 servings of chicken (3 oz each, 21 gms of Protein each
EDIT: Forgot the tomatoes in the first version and also the whole spices! brain is mush

Hello all! I'm 27, mother of one, been married 6 1/2 years and am morbidly obese. After an incident in the hospital in June I decided that I needed to make changes. I was too scared to do the bypass and felt that the lap band didn't work well, so I decided I wanted to research the sleeve. I found it to be very promising, and am scheduled for the 27th! I'm excited, nervous, and happy, etc all at once!! I can't wait!! Thanks!

donamay reacted to nmck in Very very long-term side effects?
My doctors were up front about the lackof long term results with this surgery. They have a patient who is 10 years out from their first gastric sleeve and her results have been decent. But, I know the research is out there for the results of my morbid obesity and could imagine what problems I would have b/c my parents are having major troubles...hip replacements, severe arthiritis, high bloodpressure, and increasing immobility. Weighing those issues for me, it became an easy choice to pick the sleeve. I have 3 young children and a fit husband. We want an active and healthy lifestyle for our whole family and I was holding that back. In my mind, if I only bought mysellf 30 more years to live into my 60s in a healthy way, this surgery would be worth it as my children would be adults.
So, I think you should ask your doctor every question thatcomes into your mind. Then weigh yourpros and cons once you have the info you can get. Good luck with your decision!

Massively simplified from Cook's Illustrated's Best Light recipes (The fav cooking magazines of geeks all over). Spicy, flavorful and high Protein.
    Ingredients
8 c low sodium chicken broth
1.5 lbs chicken with bone but no skin
1 large onion peeled & quartered
4 garlic cloves peeled and crushes
    10 springs cilantro
    Salt
2 medium tomatoes cored and quarteredl
    1/2 jalapeno
1 canned chipotle chile in adobo sauce + 1 tsp adobo sauce (must have. It comes in a can, ask the grocery store folks for it.)
    1 tsp veg oil
1 fresh lime or some lime juice
    Method
    1. Combine broth, chicken, half the onion (quartered). half the garlic, cilantro and salt. Cook on medium-low for 20 mins or until the chicken is tender. Debone, put the whole thing into a blender and puree well.
    2. Put the remaining onion, garlic, tomatoes, japaneno, chipotle chile and sauce and mix in food processor until smooth. Heat pan, put in oil, and start browning this mixture. Stir often, and in 10 minutes, you will have a luscious, smoky mixture to die for.
    3. Pour in your blended broth with all the chicken goodness and cook the two together for 15 minutes until it's all blended together and the flavors mix.
    4. Squeeze fresh lime juice right before you serve.
    5. if this isn't the best, easiest tortilla Soup you've ever had, send me the competing recipe!
Serves 6 regular people, probably 10 sleeved people.
Protein: 16 grams in each of the 10 cups (2.4 oz of chicken baby!)

In 2000 I was 240 pounds and lost 70 pounds. I was married to a man who wanted me thin but nothing was ever good enough for him. He was verbally abusive and my self esteem was terrible. I got the courage and got a divorce. I kept the weight off for many years but managed to gain back 30 of it. I was still over weight.
I got a new job and on that day went to my primary care dr. He said I had not dieted for a year and would not support my decision. What? I was crushed. That same day my dr did a lunch seminar on gastric sleeve. I talked to him that day and made an apt the same day. I bcbs and only had 1 physc eval and 1 nutrition visit, I had to do EGD, stress test, and sleep study. I found out I had a hital hernia.
My family was supportive although they do not live here. I was really hurt that my sister had the same week off on vacation and chose to go on vacation but didn't come spend time with me during my surgery. I got very sick and had a reaction to the antibotic. I had severe nausea and none of the medicines worked. I work for an airline so there's no charge to fly. She is a nurse and I needed someone with me in the hospital. She had the nerve to call and yell at me in the icu! Thank god I have great friends and neighbors who came and saw me.
I had a really hard time drinking Water in the hospital. I could only get down ice tea. I was so weak I could barely walk. I did it so I could go home. The funny thing is - I had NO PAIN. They kept saying your in pain your bp is up. I was like I feel nothing. I only took tylenol at home none of the pain meds. I am telling the surgery was a piece of cake. LOL
I got home and things went great. I drank my Protein shakes, walked for 2 minutes every hour on my treadmill.
I am almost 4 weeks out.. I have lost 22 pounds ( maybe more I am not weighing till my one month date), I walk an hour a day on my treadmil. I feel great! I also went back to work 1 week after my sleeve.
    I feel great!

You do realize that sleeve surgery doesn't actually remove any weight (except the 2 lbs or so that your stomach weighs). It's a TOOL to HELP YOU lose weight. It's still up to you to lose the weight. You do that by 1) eating less, and 2) moving more. YOU are doing the work. Don't be embarrassed, or hang your head if someone doesn't get that.
Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

I think on the recipe board, there is a recipe for 'cloud' bread. Which I made a couple of times to eat my tuna on. Haven't lately, I have this odd craving for things on lettuce lately. So I use the leuttuce lea as a roll-up for my chicken, tuna, crabmeat, even when I have the occasional burger.
I also have used thin sliced English (seedless) cucumber as my 'cracker' for hummus, and tuna salad.
    Good luck!!
