Another way to cook chicken is by braising it. Slow cooking it in a dutch oven on the stove top, or once it comes to a boil, you can cover it and finish cooking in the oven.
The meat will be incredibly tasty, soft, and moist. It falls off of the bones!
    Maybe this would help.

Thanks for the replies! I did see the surgeon yesterday for my consult and he said I should talk to my PCP about it, but he did not indicate that the surgery would be postponed with that number. I believe that it has to be over 8.0 before they would postpone.
The hard copy of the bloodwork results was sent to me with that item highlighted saying that I should talk to my PCP. They DID put me on the surgery calendar after the bloodwork came back, and the dietary and psych consults were completed.
In any event, I will contact my PCP tomorrow and ask her for expertise. I'm thinking that the change in diet over the last 4 weeks could only make some kind of improvement with that number, yes?

It's an answer - one of my answers to this problem is "get a smaller plate". Not kidding here, I bought baby plates at support group a couple months ago and put my Protein in one of of the smaller sections, whatever veg in the other smaller section, and leave the largest section empty.
Oh and get baby utensils. i may look ridiculous using baby plates and baby utensils but i looked far more ridiculous at 416 lbs loading up my third plate at the Breakfast buffet.

For some people it is normal and thank God that it's temporary. You just had major surgery and your body is busy healing itself. It's hugely important that you're getting those fluids in, make sure you're getting that Protein in too!
I was sleeved a little over 4 weeks ago. I can't eat the way I used to but I don't have any regrets. I have vivid memories of what it was like to be over 400lbs and I never want to be there again.

So far, I've told both my moms about my surgery. I was adopted as a baby, and from the age of 21 on, I've been blessed to have my biological mom's loving presence in my life, in addition to the rock-solid love of my adoptive mom. I was worried that they wouldn't agree with my decision, especially my bio-mom--she's a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, probiotic, unprocessed sugars, whole-wheat flour, herbal supplement, alternative medicine-cured-her-Stage-IV-cancer kind of lady. I kind of thought the idea of removing 2/3 of my stomach wouldn't go over well with her.
Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit--they BOTH support my choice 100%! I'm so happy and surprised! This just proves that the women in my life are beyond amazing.

Mr doc has a list of some that fit their requirements, and the requirements per scoop are 1) at least 20g whey Protein 2) no more than 5g carbs 3) no more than 3g sugar 4) no more than 4g fat. If the whey Protein is a ready-to-drink liquid, it should have at least 20g protein per 11 oz.
So far I've tried Syntrax nectar in vanilla bean torte, double stuffed cookie, and chocolate truffle, Really good! Today I tried a packet of unjury strawberry sorbet mixed with half Water and half unsweetened almond milk. It was delish!
The only one I've tried and could not deal with at all is the Jay Robb protein.
    Hope this helps some.

So, surgery is Monday, which makes today my last day of work. I have a busy weekend planned because I don't want to be sitting around worrying about this or that or the other. I am packed for the hospital. My fridge/freezer/ cupboards are stocked with clear and full liquids. I have completed my living will and power of attorney paperwork (I'm a nurse, so that was an extra that I just felt was necessary). My work desk is cleaner than it has been since i started in this office a year ago.
And I still don't feel totally ready. I read post after post about the pre-op, surgery, and post-op. I know what size bougie my surgeon is using and am aware (although not pleased) that I will have a catheter, and a JP drain post op. (Cath comes out day 1 post op, drain goes home with me for 10 days). I know that my doctor doesn't do the barium leak test, but rather fills the stomach with saline in the OR and checks for bubbles. (Very pleased about that). My daughter knows that she will have to be gentle with mommy's tummy, and that I won't be able to pick her up or carry her for a while. My husband is resigned to the fact that I won't feel like cooking for a week or so, at least. I'm aware that my diet will dramatically decrease and my exercise must dramatically increase! I have struggled with the decision about whether to weigh daily, weekly, monthly, or not at all. I have crossed all my T's and dotted all the i's.
I feel like this is similar to getting married or having a baby. I mean, we can read all the books, educate ourselves, but we won't know how exactly it will affect our lives until it actually affects our lives. Although I can't shake the "not totally ready" feeling, I'm not nervous. (Well, I am nervous about the hospitalization, but that's cuz nurses are the worst patients!) I'm not nervous about the surgery, and I'm only hopeful about the future.
Thanks to all for "listening" and for holding my hand as I am preparing for this MAJOR step in my life.

Hey there! I'm in Charlotte. My PCP is Jessica Kaiser at Carmel Family Physicians in Pineville. She is fantastic! She was totally on board with my WLS. She only accepts patients 3 days a week because she is now head of the practice and she is expecting a baby in October, so if you are interested, book now to see her. Their number is (704) 667-3600. They are a part of Carolina's HealthCare System.
My surgeon is at Carolina's Weight Management, which is affiliated with Carolina's HealthCare System also.
    Good luck!

CorvetteGirl got a reaction from Slim Lola Slim in Have August surgery date...feeling out of control
I am trying to do what Susie in Lima talked about. My surgery date is 7/22 and my pre-op liquid diet starts 7/8. I began thinking...it's going to be like going from 0 - 60 if I don't do anything at all before the liquid diet starts, so I started doing things a little at a time. Three weeks ago, I gave up all soda and carbonated drinks as well as all caffeine except one cup of morning coffee. The week after that I started experimenting with Protein powders and started to eat high protein low carb meals. This week I gave up that last cup of coffee and I have a double Protein Shake for my Breakfast (2 scoops powder and 1 bottle water) Next week I plan on starting some treadmill and nautilus activities. I just couldn't imagine doing a liquid diet without doing any of this other stuff, and it really does make a difference. I'm eating the right foods and I'm really feeling much better

A couple of weeks ago, I started eating better. At the advice of my NUT, I started drinking at least 64 oz. Water every day, upped my Protein, decreased the carbs, and.....well....I had to give up caffeine and carbonated drinks also.
I have lost a little bit of weight and in general I feel much better because I'm eating better, but DAMN, I hate giving up my caffeine. I am a die-hard Dunkin' Donuts gal. When I first started out, I gave up the Diet Pepsi, DD iced coffees, and reduced my morning coffee from 2 cups to one.
Today is the end of the Caffeine Trail for me. I am sipping what will be my last DD coffee for a long time. Tomorrow I will begin having ZERO caffeine! During this process, I was lucky not to experience the caffeine withdrawal headaches, but I really do HATE giving up that one last coffee....you know....the morning one that gets you going. I am looking at it in a positive way though, as if it's just the next step in my journey. One more step towards better health and wellness.
But for now, I am just sipping and relishing this one last cup of joe.

I haven't tried anything savory yet. I'm thinking of ordering the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken flavor and the Syntrax Medical grade unflavored. From what I hear all of the unflavored powders really do have a little bit of taste, but you need to add it to something tasty as opposed to something bland to kill that.

I like Syntrax nectar in vanilla Bean Torte or Double Stuffed cookie. I'm pre-op right now, so in the morning I mix 2 scoops with a 16 oz. bottle of Water. It would be even better with milk, but I'm content to use just Water. Also, one scoop of each is really good also.

Good bye Lane Bryant. Thank you for all these years of being the primarily only place I could shop where things would actually fit me. Although I will miss my favorite sales lady, I will likely no longer fit only in your clothes. I am so excited to have the freedom to expand my shopping choices and not feel like I live on the edges of society. I know I exist but it seems the majority of stores don't know or maybe they don't care I do. Even Target used to have a much larger selection for plus size. So I bid you adieu my faithful Lane Bryant.
