Get naked and jump up and down in front of a mirror. Kills my appetite every single time.

This happens to me all the time as a Type I diabetic. Very uneducated people see "Steel Magnolias" and assume a piece of chocolate will make me drop dead. Lovely. I don't know what will happen post-surgery

Your surgeon will definitely explain this to you, as will a nutritionist who works with VGS patients.

The way I look at it, you don't see many 70 year olds walking around with the excess weight that most of us carry. Obesity leads to a whole range of illnesses, and the surgery is a tool to help us get where we want to be--healthy! (not dead before our 70th birthday) It is unfortunate that your PCP seems to know so little about your situation. It sounds to me like he may have been talking about Lap Band instead of VSG. (?) Talk to your surgeon about your PCP's "statistics". That way you'll get an educated opinion on the matter. I am 5'5" 210 pounds, and I am going for it! Good luck.

I love the above response. I think therapy may help too, I fully expect to be where you are, and I've got my (food-centered) therapist on speed-dial! That being said, I am working hard to trust in the process...for me, still waiting for surgery.

Teachamy got a reaction from Ms skinniness in LOW BMI Pre-OP? I have questions...
    Hoosier Girl,
I just read your vacation tips on your blog. HILARIOUS! Thanks for the laughs. I was hoping peanut M&Ms could be considered Protein. BUMMER! So seriously, did the cheese fries make you sick? (I can't eat them anyway, I have celiac, so I have to stay away from the deep friers that also fry batter) Since lactose and I don't get along very well, and wheat, barley, and rye also can't be tolerated, I wonder what the VSG will prevent me from tolerating in the future...definitely avoiding the cheese fries!

    Hi All,
I have a BMI of 35 with comorbidities and am hoping to finally have surgery in Dec. I was just wondering...should I expect to lose more slowly than others, since I ony have about 70 pounds to lose? What were your experiences, timeline, etc? Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Amy

Teachamy got a reaction from Greeknugget in 7 days and kids want mcdonalds
This is why you went through classes and prepared meal plans in advance. It won't help the head hunger (or cancel out the smell of fries!) But hopefully you know what you can eat for now, and what you can expect to eat as your stomach heals. If you didn't take classes, or you don't have a dietitian, now is a good time to seek some help for your eating triggers. Good luck!

I am SO SORRY! I was scheduled for surgery on July 31st, and in my meeting with my surgeon, she realized I had Atrial fibrillation. Had it not been found, I very well could have had a stroke. I was sad and depressed for a good month after I had a heart procedure to correct the problem. Now I hope to have surgery in December, if at all possible. I am trusting in the process. I guess we were both lucky, it's just hard to accept that sometimes. Best of luck to you!

Remember that scene from the Aliens movies when the creature would hatch out of the host? That's sorta what happens when you're sleeved and drink something with carbonation.

I wouldn't worry about the gym right now. Use your pool and every muscle! Walk, dance, move a little every day. I am still pre-surgery, but exercise is one thing I am good at. I NEED to walk my dog, I NEED to swim with my kids. I never NEEDED to go to the gym, so I avoided it like the plague. Then I got a personal trainer and felt guilty if I didn't go. (Not to mention, I had already paid for the session.) Personally, I hate the gym, but there are many other ways to exercise. It sounds like you have a great attitude. And if getting to the gym is important to you, maybe try a personal trainer! They are excellent motivation and can be very encouraging!
