bettyb71 got a reaction from newlife27 in how r the june 2013 sleevers doing
I was done June 11, I feel like I'm done losing weight and it's frustrating. I am mainly frustrated with myself. I am not eating right. I have been maintaining, which is good, but I have 40lbs to my goal and I haven't lost weight since August. I have lost a total of 75 since I started this journey...I'm in a 14 jean which is nice because I don't have to shop at lane Bryant anymore, lol. I keep telling myself I'll get serious again in January after the stress of the holidays....but how much more serious can u get than cutting out most of your stomach?
I'm hoping I get back to it because I know now that I can eat like a normal person and maintain....I think I am like testing the sleeve or something...I hate my brain!

I guess the speed at which one can eat more would depend on how well the recovery process went and what size bogey was used during surgery.
I think it was about the 6 month mark where I started being able to eat more than 1/2 cup at one meal. But from what I've read, it's normal for the stomach to "relax" a little once the swelling and trauma from surgery is over.
And I have some days where it just seems like my stomach is a bottomless pit. But unlike pre-surgery, I can eat just a little and walk away. Even though I may be able to eat a cup to 1 1/2 cups of food, I still limit myself to 1/2 or 3/4 of a cup and be satisfied. That wouldn't have happened in the past. I'd have to eat until I was stuffed before I could walk away.
And I can remember when I first started being able to eat more, thinking, "OMG, I am eating soooo much." Completely forgetting the huge platefuls I used to able to eat multiple times a day.
I don't believe you have stretched your stomach out, or that it is easy to stretch your stomach - since most of the stretchy part has been removed. Just be vigilant and realize that just because you can eat more, you don't have to.

bettyb71 reacted to TwinsMama in 7 weeks out and still feeling sick
I have had nausea since surgery 10 weeks ago. Some things I've found...even if he throws up, don't drink anything for that 30 minutes at least. I would try and drink to get rid of the awful taste and it would prolong my nausea.
Also, it is best to do like we do with babies...try one new food for a few days, then move on to the next. Even if you think today you can have X tomorrow you may not be able to tolerate it.
Eat and drinkly as sloooooowly as possible. As someone said above, sometimes slow is just not slow enough. Also, check the Protein he's eating/drinking. He may find that he is lactose or has some other intolerances.
Try to eat undistracted. What I found is that my nausea didn't really sneak up on me. If I was eating alone I could tell almost instantly when something was not right. BUT when I ate with someone it was harder to tell I was getting sick until I was running to the bathroom.
Most of all...get him to the Dr. Remind him this is like buying a car, you wouldn't just not take your new car to the shop if it stopped running. Why on earth do this with your health? If the Dr messed up, s/he sure better fix it. The only way to do that is to go there and demand it.
He still has life, so make sure he doesn't lose it over something that may be treatable.

bettyb71 got a reaction from ctsleeve in Dumping - does it ever go away?
I experienced dumping with my sleeve at about 1.5 weeks out. I added a tbsp of Peanut Butter to my Protein Shake. Thought i was dying, LOL! i explained what happened to my NUT and she said it was dumping and it was very unusual for a sleever to get that. In fact she said I was the only one she had ever heard of, but the symptoms were consistent. I have read several other people on this forum have experienced the same thing. The good news is that YES it goes away. As soon as your system is 'used' to food again it will go away. In fact, I have a few (I allow myself 6) M & Ms a day to get my chocolate fix and have suffered no ill effects! Now, I did try ice cream on vacation a few weeks ago, didn't get the full on dumping, but did have to immediately throw up!

I am in the same boat! I talked to my NUT yesterday but she really wasn't any help. I have been the same weight, the EXACT same weight for over a week. I am keeping it to 700 calories, I am getting all my Protein in, hell, I have 2 boxes of frickin paczki straight from Hamtramik (very yummy and very fattening donuts for those that don't know) behind me and I am not even looking in the boxes. I feel like I should be rewarded for my good behavior, LOL. I am only 5 weeks out and started the stall at 3 weeks, even gaining 1.2 lbs at one point in the last 2 weeks. How do you gain weight at 700 calories?! I am getting frustrated, but my husband and NUT tell me everything is fine. Not sure what else I can do...

Cheri, thank you! I am so happy to have found this community to ask questions of, to rant to, to discuss topics that no one else understands. My husband was sleeved 3 weeks after me, so we do discuss a lot, but we are in the same boat with many questions. I am starting to eat a little more normally this week and I have lost a pound. Not sure if it's because I was due or because I am just eating without thinking too hard about it! I was sleeved 9 weeks ago and I can't believe how much this changes your life! I knew it would change, of course, but I can't believe how all my thought processes have changed.

I have been one of those people who are not happy with loss. When I use the scale everyday, yes I know that is not the way to do it, and no I won't stop doing it, I get frustrated seeing the same weight or within the same whole number for a LONG time. I started a spreadsheet though and I am hoping that changes my brain about how to look at this. My first month after surgery I lost 20lbs, the next month only lost 9.2, BUT if I can lose between 9-10 lbs per month, I will reach my goal in about 6 months. Being heavy my whole life, losing tons only to gain back a ton and a half, I looked at this surgery as a way to get my life in order. It took me years to gain it, and while I can sit and complaint that it's not fair, I did have surgery after all, I should lose it quicker, at this point it is what it is and if I can get to my goal (which is a lot more loss than my docs goal for me) within 6-8 months, that will be awesome.

Here is another question. As one other poster said, it's hard to get a lot of calories in when you get full so fast. At the beginning I was doing a lot of shakes to make my Protein marks, but quite frankly I am tired of them so I only do 1 for Breakfast with an extra scoop of unflavored protein in it. Now, i am eating more regular food so I am not getting calories or protein in. AND I am just not that interested in food anymore (never thought I would say that out loud) I am exercising 6x a week, cardio and weights, so now I think I am not eating enough calories because of the exercise. I am so confused as to what is right. My NUT has not returned my email, which is a whole other story. I asked my MIL who had bypass done about 17 years ago what she ate afterwards. Her words to me, we didn't bother with all the low cal stuff because we couldn't eat that much anyway so we just ate normally, just less of it. She lost 130lbs in about 9 months! i just wish I had the guy from Extreme Weight Loss living with me so he can tell me what I should eat and how much to work out.

I am 8 weeks out and I am just not losing like I thought I would. I have stepped up the exercise, I am eating between 500-700 calories a day, I am almost hitting my Protein everyday, and the scale stays the same. Today it actually went up a lb.! The good thing is with only 15% of my stomach, I can't do something stupid like go stuff myself! I guess I am just getting frustrated after going through surgery and restricting what I eat that the 'payoff' is not what I thought it would be.
Start weight in Feb - 255
    Surgery weight June 11 - 219
    Today - 191.4
Am I being crazy? Am I expecting too much from my 'tool'? My NUT said expect about 3-5 lbs per week. I called her at 5 weeks because I stopped losing at 3 weeks and she said that I can't expect 3-5 lbs per week because I would disappear. I have only lost 6 lbs in the last 20 days, that just doesn't seem right.
Any suggestions wouldbe helpful. I am thinking of doing only liquids for a week, will that help or hinder? HELP!!!

I'm thinking you're also building muscle too then, so that could account for the reason your loss is not as you would have liked. The body does funny things when we treat it well. It is often not at all what we would expect...WHEN we expect it. Over time it will all come together.

I am doing strength and cardio. Walking/jogging 5-6x per week for anywhere from 1.5-1.75 miles. Then after cardio I do strength, I do different areas, legs one day, back one day, tris and bis one day.

I am thinking of marketing a moon scale. It is calibrated to how much you would weigh on the moon. 83.3% less. If you weight 200 on Earth you would weigh 33.2 pounds on the moon.
An alternative is the lawyers scale. You can program it to represent the truth anyway you want. You can input the desired degree of fraud.
Or maybe the sympathy scale. You input your desired rate of loss and when it runs short the scale plays a crying voice and various reasons that it is not your fault.
    Ya, I know, all stupid.
I didn't go through getting gutted to change numbers on a scale. I could have done that on my analog scale by turning a dial.
I was at war with my fat.
With the help of my sleeve I whipped his hiney.
What the scale said was an object of curiosity, not the prime indicator of how the sleeve was doing.
It is physically impossible to follow a NUT and doctor prescribed program with the sleeve and not lose your fat.
Time is your friend, not your enemy if you have the right attitude toward it. Your body has it's own schedule. Time and science are your back up.
Give yourself the gift of time.

I completely understand your frustration because I will be 8 weeks post-op on Tuesday and I am in the same boat. I think I have lost 4 pounds this month but yesterday I got on the scale and had gained 1.4 pounds. I am eating about 800 calories a day, which my dr. said to keep it between 800-1000. I am getting in my Protein and Water. I am walking 2 miles in just a little over 30 minutes every day. I am beyond frustrated. The only thing that is keeping me going is that my clothes do feel bigger so I think maybe I am losing inches instead of pounds but I am have to see it on the scale kind of girl! My dr. did say that if you would go back to liquids for a couple of days that it would jump start a stall. I hated every minute of liquids so I am not jumping on the band wagon to do that but I may have to. I am looking forward to seeing the responses from this post.

You have to learn what those feelings mean. AT the beginning I thought the same that those feelings were hunger, but for me the burp is a signal that I am full. I better not take more than one or two more bits because I am done. And it does take time for the mind to catch up to the body, so maybe that is those 15 minutes. It definitely took time for me to figure out what my full felt like and it feels different than full felt before. I would say, though, burping is a sign of full.
