Silly Phylly got a reaction from littlehope126 in Dr. Alvarez
I am at a BMI of 37 and have the same comorbidities as you! Coverage remains to be seen, but I am hopeful. I am 45 years old and the way I see it this old dog is not capable of learning new tricks, so long as there is a grumbling, growling bear inside of me. I have got to render food powerless over me! With the sleeve binge eating should not be an issue since the sleeve will stop me. Let's start a prayer chain for all the up coming and previously sleeved patients. We need all the help and support we can get with our individual circumstances! Good luck to you and God bless! Keep us posted on your progress and experience!

About to head down the old insurance road with BCBS of Alabama. I have a 37+ BMI, on metformin, diagnosed fatty liver, asthma, back issues etc... If I am not medically necessary I just don't know! Like one of the other posts stated, I can't imagine going through all the preliminaries only to be denied. I will be crushed! Unsure at this time if self-pay will even be an option.

Silly Phylly got a reaction from Need-a-Sleeve in Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
I am a teacher/nurse. I sort of told my vice-principal that I was trying to get approval for lap-band. For some reason that does not shock people so much. I figured I needed to give someone a heads up about having to go to appointments etc... Plus. I knew she would be my worst critic. She seemed to be supportive, but reminded me that I was fearfully and wonderfully made. I told her she was so right and that I had no plans of altering the alimentary canal like by-pass. I reminded her that God did not make me obese, Me, food and the devil did! Now I have the power to undo what I did to my temple!

From a nurses prospective, yes, everything is changing including hormone levels. Every system in our body is dependent on the other systems and their hormones. The sudden weight loss can be percieved by the body as a stress, eventhough we know it is a good thing for us. Stress plays a gigantic role in the proper functioning of our body's hormones, not just sexual hormones either. Find ways to reduce stress and in the meantime try to enjoy the wifely duty anyway. You may find it just takes a little initiative to press the old buttons! Otherwise, you can have your hormones tested. I would suggest finding someone that does saliva testing. It tests the hormones that the body has uptaken from the blood stream. Whereas, most MD's test blood levels, which does not tell you if you are using the hormone on the cellular level. I worked for a practicioner that specialized in the natural hormone replacement therepy and I am a full believer! Been there done that and hubby and I love it! Can't wait till I get my new sexy body to go with it!

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and cry. I heard that crying burns 1.3 calories per minute. Every little bit counts you know???? Seriously...I know it could be disappointing when they say 6 months and you see others moving along with much faster times. Insurance companies have their own policies and rules. Most of them derived from abuse and failure rates of past patients. You must constantly check because they can change at any time. But having insurance is so crucial. I had no problem jumping through any of their hoops because I didn't have the money to self pay plus if I killed over I wanted someone to sue. (Nothing happen....I'm doing extremely well) Everything everyone above have stated is true. I just want to add or reiterate what everyone else have said. Do your homework, jump through the hoops, and use this time to get yourself together. Break it down into manageable months if you have to. They are not saying you have to lose a gillion pounds. Don't look @ it that way. Congratulations on taking the first steps. Don't give up because you are worth it. If this was easy...everyone would be doing it. One more thing...insurance companies do have a clause saying just because you meet most or all requirements they can still deny your surgery. Some people get denied the first time. So...stay proactive and ask questions. Plus you get to learn from all of our mistakes. And.....medical advancements in surgery may happen and you can benefit. Best wishes, good luck, and stay encouraged!!!

oh my! it's like you are in my head--1 week ago lol! i think i posted something very similar to this. it's amazing what your body will do in just one week. i am 2 weeks out and as of yesterday morning, i can drink quite a few small drinks before i start feeling that nagging feeling, i just sit back and let it pass and drink some more a few minutes later. i was able to move to soft foods today and i think i may have over done it just a little-i started thinking the same thoughts you are having now and your post reminded me where i was just 6 days ago! please believe that everyone is telling you the truth-things do get easier!! your body just needs that time to heal and adjust!

Sorry to see you go big dog.... Unfortunately much of what you say is true. I do think this site can be very supportive in many ways though, you just need to weed through the negative comments and those who comment on everything regardless, if they know how to answere the questions. I guess when there are 35,000 people, there are bound to be several not so great ones in the bunch.... Good luck to you.

Bigdog, I wish you wouldn't leave. It sounds like, as lessofmeismore said, you are a very compassionate and caring person. Most of the posts I see on this site are from compassionate and caring people trying to support one another. None of us is an expert, but it is really helpful to learn from eachother's experience and knowlege. Unfortunately, you are right, there are a few posters who come across as very judgemental and it is very unproductive. I always try to remember that text carries no inflection so it easy to take the intention or meaning of someone's words the wrong way. However, if someone is truely being mean or judgemental, chances are likely they are very unhappy or insecure themselves and that is their way of masking it. It may be hard, but I suggest try to forgive them and move on to the more supportive and productive posts.
I hope to continue to see you around here, but if not I still wish you all the best in your journey to a healthy you!

Friend, we all wish you the best on your continuing journey. I've found my experience to be just the opposite of yours, typically people are very supportive and have some wonderful ideas, you've seemed to run aground in a different situation. That's a pity, more for this site than for you.
Again, the best of luck friend, we all do wish you well.
EDIT: Please use the REPORT button on the bottom of each post to report anyone truly being an a$$, I know the admins will hop right on it and take care of the situation.
Also, please remember you just had major surgery, your body is injured and your diet has drastically changed, it's bound change you mentally at least a little and perhaps left you a tad touchy, perhaps you are overreacting a little? Please don't take some peoples fun and trying to bring a little levity into the day as being mean. If you can find the posts that you object to then use the report button and let the admins decide.

Too many caring people are leaving, I wish you would consider staying. People do come here for support and I can see by your post you know exactly how to support people. It does take empathy and understanding and that does seem to be lacking here lately.

I didn't read every post, but I am going to respond to those who say "this is your responsibility", I called my insurance FIVE different times and ASKED them SPECIFICALLY if I had to do a 6 month monitored diet. I was told no all FIVE times. I went through ALL of the insurance documents provided to me and the insurance website. The insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office could not get an answer from them either. SO after HOURS of "my responsibility", I called the HR dept at hubby's work and they sent over the specifics. And there it was. It should have not taken me literally 6 hours of research to get such a basic answer.
I JUST finished my 6 month of weigh ins and my stuff was called in yesterday. I was in your shoes not to long ago. It will pass, and you can spend everyday on here learning like I did. Best of luck on your journey!

Aghh.....girl I feel your pain. Whenever anyone feels me they're starting the process I always suggest they start a supervised diet just in case. A word of advice do not do or say anything to sabatoge your doctors recommendations. My doctor told me to exercise 5x a week, and on one of my visits I told him the last 2 weeks I was only able to exercise 3x a week and I got denied because of that and had to do another whole 6 month diet. Well good luck, and trust me time goes by faster that you think.

You also have to remember that when dealing with insurance companies, every group/employer is going to have different plans that may require something different. It is impossible for doctor offices to know what each company requires, becase if may vary from group to group.

6 months flew by. I started researching around Christmas, had my first appointment a few months later,3 months of supervised diet, and it feels like yesterday I was just starting to research. When I was finishing up all my appointments/clearances ect I kept wanting the process to SLOW DOWN. haha felt like my head was spinning.
Good luck to you on your journey. My advice is to use the 6 months to PREPARE and RESEARCH the heck out of the surgery and the new life you will be living!

I also have the 6 month diet thing. I was kinda bummed at first but now i realize this is a HUGE change, and these 6 months could make or break your success.
You will learn about eating habits that will help you be successful post-op, prepare your mind, and the psych appointment will also help. In addition, execise is needed and 1 good thing is you can start tightening your skin now so that it wont end up being ultra saggy Look at the bright side.
I started my 6 mo plan TODAY so maybe we can be surgery buddies!!

I'm sorry to hear that your insurance requires 6 month diet, that would suck so bad. My surgeon doesn't require the supervised diet because he believes that most people who seek wls do so as a last resort and they've mostly tried every single diet out there.
