I'm post-op day 5. Since yesterday I've been mad at myself for doing this and praying that I could go back in time and not do it. I'm miserable. If I don't take tiny tiny sips then I get an excruciating pain in my throat, chest, and stomach. I can only stomach 40g of Protein a day and I can't drink more than 32oz without getting a painful lump in my throat. I feel like I'm never going to be able to eat my favorite foods again or be normal. I'm absolutely miserable. Anyone else feel like this?

mad at myself for doing WLS

RissyRoe

sorry you are feeling miserable :(

buyers remorse happens at times to other sleevers too :(

you made the wise/smart decision to be sleeved, don't second guess yourself now.

take only those tiny sips of H20 per Dr./NUT. - you've found out the hard way that you will experience pain, if you drink too much at a time.

Getting 40 grams of Protein - and 32 oz H20 is fine, you'll eventually be able to do more

you will be able to gradually eat your favorite foods, but a very very small amount

new tummy won't allow you to eat too much - thats the beauty of the sleeve. remember - sleeve assists you - like a tool

you can't go back in time - you can only go forward enjoy your future with the sleeve

sooner than later you'll realize that the sleeve is your new best friend :)

good luck

kathy

Day 5, don't worry about how much Protein you are getting. Focus on liquids. The good news is that if you are getting 40 grams, you are doing pretty good for your first week. I was lucky to get in 20 grams a day my first week. It gets better, just take it one day at a time. As your stomach heels, the pain from drinking will go away. It takes some time. Hang in there. I know it is hard to believe, but in a few months, you will be rocking your sleeve and posting how this was the best thing you ever did! I will keep you in my prayers that tomorrow is a better day for you and that things become easier quickly. You can do this!

I can't say I feel like that, but I can say that it does get better. Please hang in there and don't get too down. Things get much easier with time.

I am at eight months so not an expert, but I can drink liquids normally, and there is not much I cannot eat. I wish I had done this years ago, I would have so many lost years back.

You have gone through so much in the last week. Give yourself a little time?

Thank you ladies, I'm just down because I feel like I'll never be normal again. I guess it's because I'm in pain and limited to what I can consume because I'm healing.

oh my! it's like you are in my head--1 week ago lol! i think i posted something very similar to this. it's amazing what your body will do in just one week. i am 2 weeks out and as of yesterday morning, i can drink quite a few small drinks before i start feeling that nagging feeling, i just sit back and let it pass and drink some more a few minutes later. i was able to move to soft foods today and i think i may have over done it just a little-i started thinking the same thoughts you are having now and your post reminded me where i was just 6 days ago! please believe that everyone is telling you the truth-things do get easier!! your body just needs that time to heal and adjust!

I understand exactly how you feel. Don't worry, soon you will be able to eat whatever you want. Just not as much. I promise you it does get easier.

What you ate going through is normal. Know that it does get better. Focus mostly on liquids this early out. You have plenty of time to work on Protein later. I'm only 8 1/2 weeks out and really have no issues with any type of food. A pornography people don't so you will most likely be able to eat what you like soon.

32 oz of Water is good for day 5. The Water is hard work, just keep sipping. If they sent you home with pain meds and you're comfortable taking them, do so. There's no need to try to brave it out.

As far as eating normally, you will do that again. Your normal might change, but you'll feel a lot better once you get to the soft foods stage. Liquids and purees aren't fun, but they end eventually.

I was sleeved on the 30th and I am right there with you. I am still glad I had it done, but I am struggling to get in liquids. I am on pureed (per doctors orders) and made my plate with a tiny amount of pureed potatoes, ham, and asparagus. Sat down to eat with my friends, and got less than a tablespoon in before my body said NO MORE. Calculating how much Protein I am getting in hasn't even crossed my mind because it is such a tiny amount. Liquids actually seem harder than "solids". I was emotionally spent this morning, but I feel better now. I know I will be happy with my decision later, but this is the hard part. I am confused about what I should/should not be eating and seem to live in a town that does not believe in sugar-free Popsicles. Wonder what happens if I eat a regular one? I am glad for one thing--I am still tired enough from the surgery that I need a nap or 2 a day--nice little escape. <_<

IT will get better. I'm just over 2 months post-op and we went to Red Lobster tonight for the first time. I ordered the broiled seafood platter. I ate a bit of salad, 2 very small bites of a biscuit, 7 small shrimp and a few of the scallops. I brought home the flounder stuffed with seafood and the baked potato (my kids will eat it). Before surgery, I would have ordered a bigger entree and eaten every single bite of food on my plate and 2-3 of the biscuits and probably had dessert!

The first few days are rough... it gets better! For me, the sleeve is wonderful. It limits my portions but still allows me to have a small bit of things I love. My brain is finally learning... you like shrimp, it's your Protein and main part of your meal... don't go crazy on the salad or the biscuit. Just 2 bites was enough!!!!! That's a first EVER!!!!!

Give yourself time! I'm six months out in two days and so happy I did this! It's my "get out of jail free" card. I've almost lost 50 lbs and have a new lease on life. Be patient with yourself.

Huh?

Thinking that was an auto correct, perhaps for "majority"? I am eight months out but not quite at pornography. :o

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
