Regret

I'm post-op day 5. Since yesterday I've been mad at myself for doing this and praying that I could go back in time and not do it. I'm miserable. If I don't take tiny tiny sips then I get an excruciating pain in my throat, chest, and stomach. I can only stomach 40g of protein a day and I can't drink more than 32oz without getting a painful lump in my throat. I feel like I'm never going to be able to eat my favorite foods again or be normal. I'm absolutely miserable. Anyone else feel like this?

Day 5, don't worry about how much protein you are getting. Focus on liquids. The good news is that if you are getting 40 grams, you are doing pretty good for your first week. I was lucky to get in

It does get better!!! I felt the same way when I was 5 days post op. I think my stomache must've been really swollen cause I couldn't hardly get anything down.

Like someone said before me, concentrate on staying hydrated more at this point than about protein. Also my new stomache couldn't tolerate cold beverages that early on.

Good luck!

You may be experiencing some esophageal spasms. Might want to mention to doc. Acid reducer can help. Otherwise your esophagus and tummy just needs more time. Stressing is not helping acid production or spasming, if that is what it is. Sounds like it, though. I am a nurse.

Thinking that was an auto correct' date=' perhaps for "majority"? I am eight months out but not quite at pornography. :o[/quote']

Thanks Amanda. Yes, it was supposed to be "majority" and not "pornography". Dang auto text. Guess I didn't check that post.

You really need to consider yourself lucky. I am almost three weeks out and still cannot get in the amounts of liquid that you can. I will not even discuss protein amounts because I have given up on that totally because all if does is make me ill (i've tried multiple brands/formats). I only wish I was able to do what you are, my greatest fear is this eating/drinking crap will never get better. :(

I was like that- it was reflux/heartburn. They had me on Axid- it didn't work. I got Previcid- and life has been amazing. It will get better- I promise. Play with your acid meds!

BTW- I didn't have protein for my first 10days after surgery, only clear liquids and --water (b/c of the heartburn- that lump) killed me. Water has a pH level and not all tummies can tolerate it. Even now, with good heartburn meds, there are some bottled waters that I just cannot drink... Some I can.
