Today is my birthday...
I can relate. My B-day was Wednesday. My DH and I were both sick. He bought me some flowers from Kroger. When I said something about it he got me a Starbucks card!??? WTF a Starbucks card? All I wanted was a birdbath warmer. They only cost $30.00. I hate to sound like a selfish brat, but a starbucks card! JP

what to eatif things are tight
I had that problem after my third fill. I ate soft foods for two weeks. Finally, I was able to eat solids again. As far as protein drinks go, I like Unjury. The site is Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage You can get samples for real cheap so you can decide if you like them or not. I make skim milk ice cubes and mix it in the blender like a milk shake. I also use 1 cup of skim milk rather than water for the added protein and calcium. You may want to call your dietician or Dr. Good luck. JP

i look funny!
want_so_bad, I too can relate. My problem is my huge butt. It is hard to find pants to fit properly. The waist is huge and the crotch area is too tight when I sit down. I thought I was the only one who had gone down only one size. I know it will happen for us so hang in there. JP:smile:

Depressed and eating
Hi all I need some support. I was banded Aug. 15, 2007. So far I have lost 35 lbs. I was at 40, but gained 4 back. It should be higher, but most of that is my fault. My life is a mess and the more stressed I get the more I snack and I haven't gone to the gym for two weeks. I am so under appreciated at work it makes me sick. I know find another job. Well it is not that easy for a middle aged woman with double knee replacements to start over. I am not a cry baby so please don't take this wrong. Our HR dept. is hiring a lab tech to work with me and have me train. The kicker is she is going to make 11,000 a year more than me:angry: WTF:mad: I have tried to talk to HR several times and went as far as to apply for the job myself. I get no reply. Are they trying to get me to leave? I feel like a failure in both weight loss and my job. Oh crap now I am being a cry baby. Thanks to those who read. JP

Losing hair
The following information came from my Dr. (Steven Clark) 1. Avoid rough treament by using a brush or fine-toothed comb, or towel- dry your hair. Do not use a blow dryer or other heated appliances on your hair; let it dry naturally. Do not comb your hair until it is dry, as wet hair tends to break off. 2. Try shampoo that has biotin in the formula to aid in hair growth and durability. 3. Try Nutri-Ox System or Nioxin shampoos (shampoos, conditioner, scalp treatment). 4. Do not take large dose of vitamin A for an extended it can cause hair loss. 5. Vitamin recommendations may be made by your dietician to ensure nutrient adequacy. My beautician also told me about the 50 or so hairs that we loose on an average day. Yes I did leave out the fact that stress can cause hair loss woops. I was not aware that shampoos with high proteins could cause my hair to become brittle and break off it makes me wonder why on earth my Dr. office would have recommended it. I was also told by my Dr. and dietician to get 80-90 grams of protein a day. I do not know what any other Dr. say. I try not to give bad advice. JP

Good Morning!!!
Laurinda, You would not like it here in Indiana. Today's high is 3 degrees:ohmy:. I agree the soup is great for cold days. Are you still on liquids? I love pintos and cheese with a little taco sauce once you get to mushy phase. Remimber to get your protein in! JP

Unjury unflavored in my coffee for added protein??
I have not tried the flavorless, but love love love the chocolate. I make chocolate martinis with it. I know I am bad. I get the skinny moca every morning and will try it with the chocolate unjury tomorrow and let you know. Unjury will let you purchase trial packets for about $2.00. Check out the website. JP

unsupport from my boss...need advice.
I hate this woman for doing that to you. I have learned a hard lesson so I wil pass on some words of wisdom. I was so excited to be having surgery that I told most of my friends and family. Big mistake:frown:. My husband and my mother are very supportive, but the rest call me a cheater and act like I have no self control. I only told one person at work beside the HR director that I was having the surgery. If I could I would some how erase the HR director's memory. She wanted me to tell my boss, but I knew better. My boss can be vengeful and would have held it against me. I took one week off of work and ever since have claimed to have Gall Bladder problems. Maybe you should tell her you changed your mind and have the surgery without her knowledge. By law you do not have to tell her. I have had so much negative feedback from people who know about the surgery, that if I had it to do over again, I would have only told my husband and Mother. Getting the band was the best thing I have done in a long time despite negative small minded people. If need be you may have to go over her head and file a grievance. Hang in there and keep posting. You will find many allies here. JP

Losing hair
I was baded Aug. 15. My hair started faling out about 8 weeks after surgery. I was loosing a huge wad every day. I still have enough to cover all spots, but it is very thin. Last night I got a cut and color and my Beautician announced that I had finally stoped loosing hair. She said I have about a 2-3 week growth all over my head! She also told me the body when shocked from illness, surgery, or lack of food gets rid of what it does not need (hair & nails) first. I always get 80-90 grams of protein a day, but still had hair loss. Try to hang in there and get some of that hair growth shampoo (Minoxidil). JP

lapbanders called cheats
I am so sick of hearing I took the easy way out I could scream! I have not told anyone at work and plan to keep it that way. Some of my family members can not wrap their minds around my surgery no matter how I explain it to them. Sorry they even know. I knew going into this is was not a quick fix. I struggle every day with my food addiction. I count calories and exercise. It is not easy, and further more I did not cheat! Wow I feel better just typing that. Hang in there some how we will all get through this. JP

Pouch Stretching
I talked to my Dr. today about pouch streching. He said I would throw up before I would strech the pouch. He said gastric bypass patients strech their pouches, but we have little chance of doing so. However, he said over eating and throwing up can cause the band to slip. He warned me to not over eat saying sometimes slips can be fixed with an unfill, but often require surgery. :rolleyes2: He also said if I do get sick to stick to fluids for 24 hours due to swelling and irritation. I hope this helps. JP

Drinking While Eating
Since my third fill I can not physically eat and drink at the same time. Every time I try to take a few sips after eating I get sick. Kind of strange, but keeps me from doing it. JP

Pouch Says "NO MORE", Head says "EAT MORE"
beckymein, I do the same thing. At Christmas it was noodles. I could not stop until I got sick. Yesterday it was taco salad. I knew I was full, but took a few more bits and had to run out of the lunch room. If I do not measure my food or scrape half of it off of the plate right away I try to eat it all. Sometimes I even get mad because I can not eat more. What on earth is wrong with me? I keep hoping I will learn my lesson before I damage something. JP
