Really frustrated with surgeon
No offense here. I have been cussing like a sailor all day today over this. Tiff, this IS a center of excellence. My husband suggested also calling my insurance about it too. Any other suggestions? I will write a letter for sure. The thing is-this is the only guy here that does sleeves. There is one other guy but he is really based out of Cincy and just has a satellite office here. I called another bariatric surgeon and asked if they would accept me for post op care and they said the surgeon (although she doesn't do sleeves) would review my case and get back to me. I just wish someone would help me with my nausea and my cramping. If we could fix that, I would be good to go. I just wanted to ask him what I could do to help those two issues!

Lemon........
I would say it is fine but whether or not you are going to have an upset tummy-well, that is a toss up. Some of the most bland things can upset mine, but then I can already add hot sauce to things and be fine. If you think it will help, I would try it.

Really frustrated with surgeon
So at 4 pm today I called them. I asked them if they were ever going to call me and she just laughed. Ugh. I said "Look, i need to know what happened today. I understand there are emergencies and sometimes things just run late. I totally understand. But no one came to tell me or even tried to reschedule when I said I was leaving. I thought you would at least call me today but nope. Does post op care not matter to you?" (I Know this was a little snarky, but they really upset me today) She said "Well, we would have eventually called you...at some point." Ugh. So I said "Look, I am going on vacation next week and I really need to talk to the doctor." She said she would get the message to him right away-he was in the back and he would call me before he left today. She also said that she was taking a message to their patient advocate and she would also call me today. Do you think either one called? Hell no.

Really frustrated with surgeon
I had an appointment set up for this morning-it has been set for 2 weeks. I called prior to talk to my nurse-who is never any help on the phone. Anyway, the appt was for 10:15. I get there right on time, they take me back immediately. I had my 1 year old with me. Tick, tick, tick... 11:45 rolls around and no one had even attempted to tell me what was going on-no doctor, no nurse. My daughter had a half day at school so I had to go. I packed up our stuff and went to the lobby (i couldn't find anyone back near the examining rooms). A nurse was standing by the desk and I said "Hey, I am sorry, but I can't wait anymore." She just stared at me. I said "I have to go, but I have been waiting an hour and a half. I have to go get my daughter." The nurse LAUGHED in my face, rolled her eyes, took my file and turned her back on me. No one said "Hey, let's reschedule" or "I'm Sorry!" Nothing. I just turned around and walked out. I had tears in my eyes (I know, I am a baby-but I REALLY wanted to see the doctor today. I have a lot of questions.). I left and I thought "Oh, they will call me. They know my number." Do you think one person has called me today? No. I feel like they don't care at all! This was a huge procedure and I guess I was hoping for a little sympathy and caring. Nope. If you remember, I wasn't too happy with him after the surgery, but he redeemed himself with me. I guess I need to just follow up with my GP because I am so tired of this. :001_smile:

How are you exercising this week?
Just interested to see how everyone out there is moving. This week I swam laps twice (Sunday and Tuesday) and then tonight I rode the bike for 20 miles. I am eating a bit more now that I am exercising, but I am still stalled out. I thought the scale moved last week, only to see those two lbs come right back on this week. This is very frustrating considering I am not eating much AT ALL. Tons of Beans, eggs, etc. I just feel I did something SO drastic and that damn scale won't move!

Me and water. Why?
Well, I kind of meant that I have a feeling that my doctor is going to lecture me if I tell him. I don't know if I will or not. I just love water and I love crystal light. I nneeeed a few sips while eating.

Me and water. Why?
I know I will probably get lectured for this, but I take a few small sips while eating. I was gagging SO bad after surgery because I couldn't drink while eating. I take VERY small sips just to moisten the food as it goes down. I seem to be doing okay. I don't drink large quantities with food and I certainly don't gulp. I just have to have a little bit of moisture in there.

Calcium Citrate
This may be a dumb question, but are there any out there that you just take ONE pill a day and you are done? I don't mind the chewies, but I never get 4 in every day. I would honestly just rather swallow a pill.

Flavor. Mushy stage.
I am going to try to do it with greek yogurt next! Great idea! I also read where someone said to make egg salad with greek yogurt. Hmmm....I am going to the grocery store in the morning to get some new ingredients.

What did you tell your children?
Great question! My oldest is 5, so maybe a little different, but I lost a lot of sleep over how to approach this. I went to my daughter's teacher who I just adore and I told her everything. (and I didn't tell many people at all about the surgery, so this was big to me) She was wonderful. She said that you never really have to use the word "surgery" with your kids. Surgery is scary for them and puts them through a lot of stress. (and I know this is true with my daughter because when I had my c section with my son in 2008, she was terrified) So I sat down with her and told her that mommy's eating habits were changing for a very good reason. I was going to be seeing a doctor that was going to help me get healthy. I told her that I had been making poor eating choices for many years and I needed help. I told her that I would be staying overnight in the hospital to receive this help. She asked a few questions, but I never once told her that I would be cut open and have my stomach cut out. She accepted it. She never asked another question. Now I realize she is five where your kids are older. But maybe NOT telling them that it is surgery is an option? I know that would have really bothered my daughter. When she gets older, I will tell her. For now, the limited amount of information that I give her is enough. It probably helped that she had a ton of family come in to help take care of her and her brother while I was gone. I don't even think she noticed.

Sugar free ice cream
Awww! He feels really bad because he ALWAYS buys me chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's day. Not this year of course! The best part was that he stopped in the middle of the blizzard to get the ice cream! Very sweet!

Sugar free ice cream
I had a little. I couldn't take more than 1/2 of a small scoop. It was really tasty though! I had egg whites for dinner with some cheese and those were yummy too!

Sugar free ice cream
We are celebrating my daughter's birthday tonight and I already told my husband that I wouldn't be eating cake and ice cream with everyone else. Well, he just came home with sugar free ice cream. (Sweetened with Splenda) To be honest, I am not an ice cream fan and I really don't care to have any. But now my daughter is all excited and my husband thinks he did something miraculous. I am on mushies. Would it be okay to have a few bites? If not, just tell me. I just wanted to see before I did it.

Flavor. Mushy stage.
Yeah, I heated them on the stove for about 5 minutes and then added the rest of the ingredients.

Flavor. Mushy stage.
I made this today (super easy!) and it actually had some flavor! Old El Paso Refried Beans-I did not buy the fat free ones. I needed some flavor. I ate 1/4 of a cup. I put a 1/2 in my bowl, but could only eat 1/4 of a cup. So here is the makeup: 1/4 cup Old El Paso Refried Beans: 45 calories, .25g fat, 8g carbs, 2.5g Fiber, 2.5g Protein. 1/2 tbsp low fat sour cream, 1.25g fat, 20 cal, protein 1g, carbs 1g 1 tbsp Ortega taco sauce, 0 fat, 10 calories, 2g carbs I also sprinkled a little bit of shredded cheese on top. I didn't measure the cheese because it was such a small amount. I put it all in a small bowl and mixed it up. It was really good. Here are the totals: 75 cal 1.5g fat 11g carbs 3.5g protein So yeah, not a ton of protein, but it is something! It was really yummy!

Favorite protein?
Everything has changed for me. I used to be able to down most Protein shakes but now I can't stand them.
-
Yum!!
Add a little peanut butter to your shake for more protein. (approved by my doctor at least) It is soooo yummy. :blushing:

I am Not Doing Good AT This!!!
Tiffy, you are SO right. You are. Please don't think that I meant to sound flippant in my response. I haven't cheated except I moved myself to mushies a day early and had a small piece of really really chewed up turkey two days before my doctor gave me the go ahead. (light sandwich meat is approved in my mushy stage)

2 weeks out... TMI bowel changes?
Oh, I feel your pain. The cramping and diarrhea SUCKS! I honestly could handle the diarrhea-but it is so URGENT that I go when I get that feeling that it puts a damper on plans! :blushing: The cramping is just awful though. I am 3 weeks out and I am still having it. With the yogurt, I guess I am afraid to try it. I could never tolerate yogurt before (it made me have diarrhea also) so I am scared! I did buy some vanilla yogurt to make smoothies with. I might try it tomorrow because from what I hear I will be snowed in AGAIN! aye!

3 weeks out
and the scale is moving again. I am down 32 lbs. I have moved to mushies today and I seem to be tolerating it well. I had some ground hamburger with cheese earlier and it was really really good. I didn't put it in a blender like my doctor suggested. Instead I just chewed the hell out of it. Everything went down fine and I had no discomfort. Some days are good, others not so good. Some days I feel great, others not so great. Mentally it is the same way. I just keep chugging on and hoping for it to feel better for days on end. I hope that it comes soon.:w00t:

I am Not Doing Good AT This!!!
I have taken a few bites of soft foods and chewed them really really well. It doesn't seem to hurt me. (or hasn't yet) We are talking about cheese, turkey, etc. Nothing heavy duty.

Kinda shocked I did this
I am emotionally drained from my sleeve. The past few days have been tough. I am not getting enough protein, and I don't like any supplements. I keep saying to my husband "Will I ever be normal again?" I moved to mushies today (a day early, but I felt I was ready). I ate one bite and was running for the bathroom. I watched other people eat at the restaurant and I felt so left out and off in my own world. To be honest, it sucked. I just wanted to go home. I really just want to be normal again.

Unjury Unflavored Protein
So is it good or bad? Honestly? I don't want to fork out the money if it is going to be gross but my NUT recommended it today. She told me to add it to everything since I was having a tough time with protein. I have already wasted so much money on protein that I don't like. Is online the only place to get unjury?

A few questions/comments
I don't think I went to the bathroom until about day 7 or 8. Even then, it wasn't much. (Sorry TMI) Not sure on labs. At first, I could hardly take any Water also. It gets better. I was sleeved 1/25 and I am having no issues even gulping water now. Take as much as you can in a day, but also know it does get better!

Stalls
I lost 30 lbs quickly and then I have been stalled for a week. (I had surgery on 1/25) Today I am moving again. One more pound down. I just have to stick with it.
