A little help from my Pre-op Peeps - Please!
Thank you for the suggestion! I ended up finding "Muscle Milk Light" that I can tolerate. It is a shame because I have a ton of stuff that I paid for through my doctor. So today I have had two, plus some decaf tea, and a bunch of water. I am about to have my third shake. I feel MUCH better-MUCH MUCH better today. I have more energy, I am not craving anything. I think I am feeling more satisfied with the Muscle Milk.

Day 1, Jan 18th, 2010
Today I started my pre op diet. It was okay. I started off with one chocolate shake from Dr. Myers. No problem. I had some water and then another shake. This time I had vanilla. This one didn't go down so well. I think I took my time and it had thickened towards the end. It just had this odd texture. I dumped 10% of it out. For dinner, I had the Chicken with noodles soup also from Dr Myers. Yuck. I ate probably 75% of it. After dinner I had one more chocolate shake. That only brought me to 370 calories for the day. I'm hungry. I'm tired. I hope tomorrow is a better day. I did my measurements earlier, but they are downstairs. I will post them tomorrow.

A little help from my Pre-op Peeps - Please!

Self pay from Tx!Cheap Dr.?
First and foremost, if you are having bad thoughts, I think your first stop should be with a therapist. WLS is a huge huge thing and it will help to talk it out with someone to keep those bad thoughts at bay in this process. I really am an honest believer in that you get what you pay for. So please research all aspects of a surgeon before committing to them. This is your life we are talking about-which is worth so much more than a few thousand dollars.

scared,excited
I am the 25th too! I am feeling very excited and the only thing I am nervous about is the post diet. I am positive that I will feel some anxiety that morning, but I fully intend to ask for some relaxing medicine beforehand!

OKay, I will.....
I am scheduled on the 25th also! We can do this together! Good luck to you sweetie!

How long is the process from consultation to surgery?
I have United Health Care also. They required 3 nutritionist appointments which had to be spaced one month apart each. That was the longest thing. I had to have one psych eval, a full blood workup plus a full physical. It took 3 months total for everything. Then they sent my case for approval at the beginning of December and I had an approval in 3 days. Mid December I scheduled surgery for Jan. 25th. The only reason why there was that much of a wait between approval and surgery is because my surgeon is actually in Africa right now on a surgical mission trip. Otherwise, I would have probably already been sleeved. Oh well. It is worth the wait!

Just getting my toes wet
What type of insurance do you have? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to) My insurance is covering mine and if we have the same one, perhaps I can help you out with the experiences I have had. :thumbup1: Just let me know!

Starting pre-op diet
I start on the 19th. I am using Advanced Health Systems? That is all it really says on the box. I have tried it. Meh. Not so good. I will survive though!

A little help from my Pre-op Peeps - Please!
I have read my book a million times. I still don't feel prepared. I understand. I bought one of those pill things to put each day's worth of pills in for the am and pm. That has helped. I still haven't started on my diet, so I know it is going to get harder.

Medicine question
I am going to the doctor tomorrow (derm) and I am assuming she will be putting me on an oral medication long term. My surgery is 1/25. Should I ask for a liquid for if available or will pill form be okay? I guess I could call my surgeon, but they suck at getting back to me. (sorry, just the truth) I love the surgeon himself and he is by far the most experienced in the area, but yeah, his support staff is slow.

Concerned
Why are the shots not a good source of protein? The shots seem like something I can handle-along with sipping water.

Yay I have DATE and, DRAMA = [.
Wow. I would be pissed too. I have told very very few people about my surgery. My very best friend in the world, my husband, my parents and my daughter's teacher. (I wanted to make sure that she knew what was going on and she could talk to her if needed-it was simply for my daughter's sake) I would be so so so pissed if someone wrote that on my wall. I am really sorry that they did that!

What did you ask your doctor...
By then, I had nothing to ask. Between the seminar, meeting with the patient counselor, coordinator, Dietician, psychologist, OR nurse, and surgeon's assistant, I was out of questions. :001_unsure:

Tell me about your hospital experience
Thank you everyone!

Question about Triglycerides
My triglycerides were 192 and the normal range is 30-150. There was an x next to it that my doc put there as a "surgery will fix this" type of thing. Hopefully it will be the same for you!

Question about Triglycerides
Let me see what mine were. Hold on.

Tell me about your hospital experience
How long were you in surgery? Did you have a private room post op? How many days did you stay? At the worst point, how would you rate your pain? (o-10 with 0 being the least amt of pain) What kind of pain killers did they use? Did they work? What did you do to pass the time? (I don't like to sit for long and I will walk the hospital all day long if they let me) What did you take for entertainment? Anything? I am trying to find out if my hospital has DVD players in our rooms. I would love to catch up on some movies and books! How did you pack and what would you leave at home if you were to do it over again? If anyone went with Dr Myers in Columbus, Ohio at Riverside hospital I would especially love to hear from you! (But I also want to hear from others about their own experiences) :biggrin0:
