  1. You could try saying you are on a strict doctor supervised diet and would appreciate their support. Then, if they push the food, just say "No thank you." You shouldn't have to pretend you are eating/drinking and you shouldn't have to divulge your medical situation. Just be consistent. It is odd you aren't able to eat eggs. I have been on this board for more than 20 months and no one has said eggs are forbidden. From what I can tell, the other nutritionists including mine have said eggs in any form are acceptable at that stage. Oh well.

  2. What an experience. In addition to whatever else you do for constipation, make sure you drink your full requirement of fluids each day. My nutritionist said the daily bm routine generally changes once sleeved and that they will likely be two or three days apart. Good luck.

  3. Although it seems daunting before and shortly after your surgery, it doesn't take long to figure it all out and find that it is easy. Before surgery we tend to obsess about it but all of these things fall into place.

Also, I had no gas pains and any other pain was controlled with medication in the hospital. Once home, I required no pain medication. Not all have the same experience, but many do.

  4. I would like to suggest Cera Ve lotion for the skin. I started using it because I have eczema and it helps with the itching. It also acts to help minimize eczema. Anyway, my skin, which had been dry and flaky like yours is now soft and flakyless (I know that's not a word.). It doesn't leave an oily residue on the skin either. It has my highest recommendation.

  5. According to my nutritionist, five cups of fluids a day is not enough. Water isn't the only fluid, try yogurt, cottage cheese, some soups, and anything else that has a fluid consistency. My current favorite is low salt V-8 joice. Some fluids also have proteins, some even have a lot of proteins.

I agree with the comments above about ways to improve your diet.

  6. I am three months post-op. My doctor required four nutrition classes--three before he would do the surgery and one at one month post-op. It sounds as though your's didn't offer/require any.

One thing stressed during my classes was that this was a diet for life, not just until reaching goal weight. The following site may help answer your diet questions.

  7. I gradually cut down on my coffee consumption until I wasn't drinking any about three weeks before my surgery. Now three weeks post-op, I have not had any and will not ever have any. My nutritionist cautions not to have more than one cup of coffee or tea a day or risk getting stomach ulcers.
