Pre-Op Diet And Phentermine
I was on phentermine for my metabolism on a schedule that was intended to help keep my metabolism shook up. The on-again period kicked in and went up to 3 days from surgery. My doctor said it was ok, but I had to keep a very careful eye on my blood pressure and heart rate. If I had too elevated pressure it could have caused issues. I have never heard of it preventing the reduction of fat in the liver, no offense to any previous posters. It is often prescribed to people who need to eat less in an attempt to ease the liver's size.

So Is It Just Me?
Oh yeah, and it still happens to me on occasion. I sound like a washing machine draining out the last dregs of water...that swirly-swishy sound. I can feel it too.

My Fit Foods ?
Here in Houston My Fit Foods is a chain (so to speak) you go in and they have all of the meals and such in freezers. there seems to be several in the Dallas area too... The plan is pretty expensive, but I actually eat from several My Fit Foods just out of choice. If the portions are the same and the quality is too you will enjoy the food. Just be sure to talk to one of the dieticians and be sure they supply the meals short on veggies and long on protien, and carbs are held in check (most are anyway). I cant imagine you need as much as the plan provides, you should probably buy a la carte. If you can go to the restaraunt or store front and look at the dishes, etc.

Memorial Day, And My Regret.
Alot of us have posted questions here about if we wish we had had surgery sooner, regrets about this or that, they are all good questions. I do know I think the years would have been easier if the weight were not there. I can not imagine not being with my husband, thick or thin, so I do not regret the years, just that I were not in the health I wanted to be, and the worry and expense it has caused us. I tried so hard to keep the weight off as a teenager to be able to join the military I almost developed anorexia. I do have a regret. I regret not being able to fight for my country. My great grandfathers fought, my grandfathers fought. Uncles, great-uncles and more. My Grandfather was in WWII, fought in The Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive) and saw in other events some of the hardest fighting to be done, Pacific Theatre included. he then volunteered again for Korea. He holds the Bronze Star. He passed away last October, the last of his friends. Five times wounded in battle. He lay beside my Aunt, his baby girl. I do not know all of his stories, I think he took much to the grave. One day in February of 2011, as he was reaching the final stages of Alzheimers, he and my Husband sat by a fireplace and my husband oversaw him starting a fire, he started talking to my Hubby about the things he had seen and done, and were done to him, and did not stop for hours. I do knot know all of what was said, except that my Hubby waited till my Pappaw went to sleep, my Husband looked different. Older. Sad. he kissed me and told me a bit about what happened and proceeded to drink for hours. He never drinks. I regret never being to be able to join the military. I regret I cannot be there. I regret I cannot fight, for you and myself. That is my regret. I did not post it here, because it was a very difficult thing to talk about, but I tried to join the Texas State Guard once I hit onderland. I did not get very far - due to age but also the sleeve and diabeties and asthma, I was turned down. That is my regret. If you fought, thank you. I tried. If I am ever asked to fight, or be allowed to volunteer, I will be there.

Surgery Today
Good luck to you, you have quite a journey ahead of you. Your decision is made, the next we hear of you will be after your surgery! This is a tremendous thing we do here, each of us. What we give ourselves and what it offers to our loved ones is beyond value. My Mom passed on a week after my surgery. She was 58. She had no weight issues, except being too thin. I am 38. My mom was 58. If I pass at the same age that is 20 years, and honestly Six months ago I doubted I had 20 years in me left. If it gave me only an extra year, only even the same years but feeling better, it is more than worth it. Now I can fight - figureatively and literally. I am back into so much I missed. Godspeed.

Pre-Surgery
When I met my Husband in 1999 I was a size16. Fast forward to 2007 while down from my largest (I dont know how big it was, 28 was tight and I refused to get on a scale once I weighed in at 296), so again down from my largest, but still a size 26 and 285 lbs or so, I am diagnosed with diabeties. I had the diabeties in control within a year I had 6.2 or better a1c, but never the weight. I initially lost to about 245 and would do that a few times. The meds are so frustrating, you have to keep them with you, test, test,test... I have been told I am not diabetic anymore. Actually the percentage of people who are in remission that have had the sleeve is very disproportionate to people who have just lost weight, and there is no clear answer why. Your chances of being in remission at some point is very good. Good luck to you, and welcome to VST!

Need You Input Now!
Since he is running high, be prepared for him to feel really bad, maybe for awhile, even if his bg gets under control. When you go from running high to normal, especially if it lower end normal, it can feel very bad - and yes, maybe make you more hungry. be sure it is a real low before feeding it, there will be alot temptation for him to use it as an excuse to eat the carbs his body is craving. Let him go to at least 50 before you feed it, but 50 needs extreme monitoring, after that, or if you dont chose to still go so low, only feed it with low sodium carb choices. 2-3 oz of juice with 2-3 oz of Water is a good choice. Drink dont gulp - remember right now he should be practicing smaller drinks and such. Ok - one question - why is he not on here asking the questions?

Help
You are welcome to add me, if you are on FB. I am not on alot anymore, but still. It's my alter profile, search Lillian Ruth [GearheadGunner]).

Don't Yell At Me!
Are you keeping track of your target heart rate? Do you have diabeties? If it only starts after a certain level, then I would say just take it a bit easier. Remember to not breathe in your shoulders, breathe in your belly. Poor breathing habits while exercising makes you dizzy sometimes - it also makes you hurt, feel tired faster, etc.

After 6+ Months Out, Is Losing Weight, And Maintaining Weight, Harder Or Easier?
I am not quite at 5 months and I would have to say for me it is no harder, but probably slighter different reasons, since I have a metabolism issue I am fighting also. Just to touch base I have a problem with my body acclimating to whatever calories I am eating pretty quick, and I have to shuffle it around. So you can only shuffle down so far, you also have to shuffle up. With the sleeve I could easily shuffle down. I bet I could consume 200-300 calories a day if I wanted to, but who would? To avoid nutrition issues I have been focusing on protien first, and veggies second, with nutrients a constant. I purposefully will have a teaspooonfull of pecan oil in a smoothie or something every so many days, etc, to have a higher calorie day. It helps with the metabolism issue. With that said I am right at about 50 lbs since the surgery, and coming up on 5 months, so it will average out to about 10 lbs a month for me. I think that would make alot panick, and feel as if it had not worked. I don't seem to be at risk of gaining it back, and I am still loosing, and my problems with my metabolism would have long destroyed any dieting attempt by now. I know the stats and risks of gaining but I have to say in six months, or a year, etc. If you gain it back it isnt "the sleeve" - no offense to anyone it is your choices, your habits, you food intake, your slacking off at the gym or whatever. It could be easy to do, the hunger beast is not necessarily there, and unfortunately alot of sleevers seem not to battle or deal with the head hunger as much as they find ways (as one said) "to work with my sleeve so I can still binge if I really need to". If you eat the snack foods, the angel food cake and cheetos and learn to drink while eating, go back to the same food choices, etc. yes, as time progresses you will likely sabotage yourself. I know of a lady, she is not on here that I know of (if she is she will ahve probably told her story better than I did). She lost 100 lbs and kept if off a year, so she was at about 2 years before she got off track. Then there was the summer of McDonalds. She would walk to the food court in a mall accross the highway and it started out with salads and Soups onto chicken sandwiches and finally hamburgers and fries and she started getting the bigger burgers with no veggies and would take off the top bun, and what she didnt finish she would pick at with a fork the rest of her work day, so she added over 500-800 calories a day to her diet in a matter of a few short months. By october she was 30 lbs up, 20 more by december. Luckily she caught herself and got back down. I think of her alot in my journey, especially when I go "I can have that ONCE".

My Unexpected Nsv - It Rocked!
Thank you! Yes, Rammstein is awesome, there has always been trouble with are they hard industrial or punk with hardcore, etc...but anyway the show was top three in presentation that I have ever seen. I have been to many, many shows. If you are familliar then you probably know how hardcore these get - and one thing I did not mention was I was seated to where we were all standing and just going at it for the whole four hours - and no tired feeling, soreness, achy feet, etc.

Fruits
I eat small cubed pieces of watermelon. I have started to do so almost daily since Houston started getting back into the 90's. I keep some in the fridge and some in the freezer. If you eat ot dont cut up your piece til you are ready to eat it, or eat it with a baller, so you dont release all of your fluids. I find watermelon to be refershing, keeping my liquids high, and it breaks down when properly chewed to where you can have alot. I HAVE noticed it is still best to measure it. It is fibery and if you eat your fill, it can take a long time to pass. I also think it has cause occasional tummy aches.

Candida And Carb Cravings?
Did you have surgery with the doctor knowing you thought you might have candidiasis systemic enough to cause you to alter your diet? I was told if you are thought to have any ongoing Candidiasis it had to be treated first. The "shock" of surgery can allow candidiasis to spread rapidly, especially if the surgery cause an infection that required antibiotics. If you think you have candidiasis please make sure to go to a doctor and have cultures done on the spots where you think you have it. You need to know for sure, because other serious problems are similar. Sorry its just that your post caught my eye. I had a friend thst nearly died to to mistreatment. They kept giving her antibiotics abroad. It was horrible. Talk about weight loss! She went from 5'1' 130 lbs to 72 lbs before she got any real help.

Possible Damage To Sleeve
You may want to talk to your doctor, but my stomach became inflamed again about 3 weeks out and - dont become too concerned - it took me weeks longer to change to solids and I had begun some very modest solids and had to regress. Get back to very basics. Now, may I ask why you even have those types of foods in your home anymore? tisk, tisk, tisk Good luck sweetie.

When Did Your Stomach Stop Hurting
I would not transition over to another phase yet.Go back to shakes and see if you still hurt. It may be a sign you just arent ready for softs or mushies. Take the smallest bites and wait about at least 30 seconds between each bite.

My Unexpected Nsv - It Rocked!
OK - so last night was quite a NSV, or maybe more than one. I went to the Toyota Center here in Houston to go see Rammstein (think German punk/industrial). So it started out with me realizing I had nothing to wear - so I went out and boutght a pair of 36 Dickies workpants - after realizing 38 were too loose, and searched my closet one more time and found a military pinstripe steampunk shirt I had made for a guy friend but he never picked it up - fit! So I throw on a red tie and some extras and my steel toes boots and off I go. I stopped at smoothie place I go into regularly (in workout garb or very casual) and they just flipped out - I thought for a bit they were joking (the outfit is not something most walk around in 90 degree heat, or for tha matter 40 degree, lol). They bought my smoothie for me, took my pic, I have promised a before pic to post with it, too. I get to the center and I blend in. I wasn't the big chick, I was just another face. My shirt got several looks (that shirt rocks on its own) but past the costume I was just another person. I didnt have to worry about the seat, or the person to either side of me. I didn't need a purse. I just has some cash, a couple cards, id, and my asthma inhailor (unfortunatey that is more allergy related than weight, and smoke is a big trigger). No BG meter, no meds. So in the first time in for-absolutely-ever I just walked out with the fewest necessities! Crazy! Outside the venue my friend who was meeting me there could not find me, Even when I got up on a bench and waved. She had not seen me in a couple of years. She told me "I mean, I knew it had to be you, but I was like, no way!" There is actually more, but if you have been this patient I guess I should wrap it up! lol. It.Just.Felt.So.Good!

Not Even Two Weeks Out, Calories High
And alot of smoothie places have the isopure protiens to add to your smoothie, but again a smoothie for me is when I know I am aiming for the calories too.
-
Not Even Two Weeks Out, Calories High
36 oz of milk is alot of sugar, too - is there a reason to make your protien with milk. I only did that when I needed to add a few calories. Dont forget the importance of your daily Vitamins and supplements, if you body doesn't register enough basic stuff coming in - not just energy (calories) but Water, vitamins and minerals and especially sleep, you will tend to stall and or lose less.

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds Post-Op?
It is great that you have been approved - but I wish your info had a bit more about you, your city and state would be helpful in letting the specific people you need most to chime in. Do you have the ability to "pick" from such a wide scope? You may want to first get a list of the doctors in your area and see who is covered. You really want to use a doctor in your are if you can. A good local doctor will be as acceptable as a great one a hundred miles away, doubly so if you have need to return more than anticipated.

Not Even Two Weeks Out, Calories High
Could you post a day's journal? To get an idea of what you are consuming?

Sleeved And 21
I would not think of the loss of the binge drinking keggers, or anything similar as missed experiences. You will miss them in a sense, or should, and could soon enough get driunk again, but why? I have never fell off my roof, flunked a grade, broke any major bones playing a high school sport, etc - like some people I know have, but they arent experiences I "miss" either, lol.

What Was The Worst... (Newbie Here!)
The hardest part was having to deal with my Mom passing away a week after my surgery. It created alot of stress and more and caused a bit of trouble with me progressin gfrom liquids and very sof mushies. Beyond that, I think the point where it hit that I had to admit I needed this, it was hard. I had tried sooo long. To admit I can't do it was kind of a dicotomy to the fact that I knew I could...with the surgery.
