  1. U can take a yoghurt with you, or a premade protein drink.. planning is essential to keep on track ..
  2. I am surprised that your surgeon didnt explain to you that this is a slow weight loss surgery, a lot of people dont really start losing weight till their fills start kicking in maybe on fill 3 or 4 .. was this not explained to you ? the ideal wieght loss with a band is 1 to 2lbs a week The 4 to 6 weeks post op is for healing so dont be in too much of a hurry just concentrate on following your doctors guidelines and healing and starting to exercise when u get the all clear to
  3. I dont see anything wrong in increasing your calories for a day a week, i would be concened to eating a large amount on one day tho, how do u get in 3000 calories a day Axa without stretching your pouch or eating unhealthy food .. just curious, not judging
  4. well as life goes on the lapband is one of the smallest foreign bodies u will have to put up with, even crowns on teeth are foreign bodies replacement joints when u get older can often be needed etc etc .. its a tiny peiece of plastic its not really woirth looking at it like that .. i think i have read one person had it removed because of some bodily reaction to it, but thousands have it and no reaction at all so its not a silly question but plenty of other things to worry about in life
  5. I starterd at 400lbs and the only thing i could do at that weight was strength training get some dumbells and resistance bands and sit doignthem while u watch tv or something, then invest in an exercise bike and start off slowly and work your way up from there, do cycling first then strength afterwards. if u start off extremely heavy its hard to do things standing for long periods of time that is why cycling indoors is good for the heavier people .. i lost all my weight and have a rroad bike now too and after i recover from plastic surgery to remove all my excess skin i am looking forward to cycling outdoors again too. You seem to be doing great at losing weight, dont lose focus and start saving up as u will no doubt end up with spare skin .. when u are as heavy as we started out, loose skin is inevitable .. if u need any further help just ask .. good luck
  6. If you are pre-op get into fizzy water, flavoured if u must .. much better for you that diet soda's which i detest they taste sooo sweet and full of artifical flavourings.. cast them out of your life forever
  7. I have gone 3 weeks after a fill then bam it kicks in, no idea why it happens i just accept it does .. several times i was almost at the point of going back and asking for more fill then it kicksed in and i didnt need to ... just accept it happens and be glad u are getting some restriction
  8. I agree with the above posters a warm drink like tea or weak coffee, if u are allowed , can really help loosen a band in the mornings, try eating a larger dinner of an evening with plenty of protein to stop u snacking, snacking can pile up the calories so i would also consider making a journal of food for a while and monitor how many u are actually eating. Being accountable for what u eat sometimes is enough to stop u eating it .. u dont mention exercise either .. u may need to up that to burn off some of what u are eating ..
  9. I think the field trip idea is great for people who arent confident in what to buy and cook and eat, go for it , sounds like your nutritionist is on the ball
  10. I am sure u will be fine .. medical advances have made surgery so much safer nowadays so dont worry its over very quick, u might get a bit of gas pain afterwards and some discomfort like u been kicked in the stomach but seriously i was in more pain after having an operation to remove my wisdom teeth good luck .. we wish you well ..
  11. It really doesnt hurt at all and i never have a numb first as that means u have 2 injections and not just one .. its normally over so quick i never feel a thing and to be honest i think blood tests hurt more .. i am sure u will do fine ..
  12. You are early in the process and it isnt unusual for people not to lose much weight if any and to still feeling hungry. Most people dont start to feel less hungry and more restricted till they have a few fills under their belt. You have already lost a good amount of weight so dont be impatient, the average should be 1 to 2 lbs weekly .. just keep doing what u are doing and u should be fine and dont be too disappointed if u dont feel much after the first fill, many people dont ...
  13. I think its a great idea, personal trainers can provide focus and expertise and motivation and accountability so good luck to you and there is no way after a session with a personal trainer u could be described as 'lazy' I am sure a lot more people would hire them if they had the finacial means to .. let us know how u get on as i have often thought of maybe doing the same, only because i saw one locally who specialises in over 50's .. ( my bracket lol ) and after all the repair work and surgery to remove my excess skin i wouldnt want to not do the right exercises to optimise the surgery..
  14. Yea me too, it doesnt make much difference in the overall scheme of things but annoying and inconsiderate to say the least ! u have my sympathy
  15. Your surgeon has done an amazing job, i was like you i was surprised how little actual pain there was .. i wish you a speedy recovery, my scars arent as neat as yours are as i am older and was a lot heavier u had a good waistline even before the abdomino !
  16. You are doing great keep up the good work
  17. Hey Jim sorry to hear u are having a rough time at the minute, it sounds like your mother and mine went to the same finishing school, i asked her not to tell anyone and she does the total opposite claiming , oh i forgot and it just 'slipped out' grrr getting back to slow weight loss, if u find that its too slow Jim u need to change something, eating around 1200 calories should do a guy your stature, low carbs, its not just about calories its about how those calories are made up, low fat and use salt sparingly that can put on 2 lbs overnight. Be aware of drinking calories in things like protein drinks, unless u are factoring in the calories or are substituting meals with a shake. Good old protein and fresh green veg are the best and most satisfuying way to get what u need nutrient wise. Exercise may need a tweak too, make sure u do some cardio followed by some strength training and if possible it needs to be done daily, tsake some resistance bands to work if u sit at a desk and use them when u are taking a 5 mins break .. If things arent moving then u need to tweak what you are doing and try again, i increased my metabolic type food like chilli and broccoli when i slowed down weight loss wise and that worked for me .. good luck with the weight loss and 'mother' too
  18. I agree with toddy entirely all that peanut butter is 'crazzy' if i have peanut butter i have 1 teaspoon i dont go anywhere near tablespoons on high calorie foods its easy to think we are doing the right thing but honestly if the scale isnt moving something is wrong and u need to change things.. i was banded the day after you and have lost 237 lbs i maybe have had 10 teaspoons of peanut butter since being banded and those i counted as a treat i counted everything in calories till i now know what i can eat and what i cant and i stay around 1000 to 1200 calories a day which is low fat/low carb .. good luck
  19. I agree with holly stevia is a plant based sweetner and isnt made from chemicals at all, u should do fine with it .. i also use a teaspoon of maple syrup in my greek yoghurt its a complex sugar so isnt as bad for u .. as refined white sugar .. if u add sugar to something u are in control of the amounts and to be honest a small amount of unrefined sugar isnt that bad for us, what is bad is all the hidden sugars in processed foods and even suagrs in the low calorie yoghurts etc, better to get plain unsweetened things and add your own fruit and maybe a small amount of sugar .. u are in control then
  20. Find some fun things to do with the kids that way you can enjoy their holidays and work out at the same time
  21. I would suggest for exercise you look at an exercise bike , maybe a recumbent one and just do it at your own pace, also just walking around move when u are even sitting down, hands or light dumbells, u dont need to put any pressure on your back .. my back was bad when i was at my heaviest and the exercise bike was really the only thing i could manage as it was still sitting down .. good luck
  22. speedy recovery to all recent bandsters .. now the hard work begins but the light is at the end of the tunnel
  23. It sounds like u know what to do u just dont like doing it lol i actually exercise a lot ... do i like it .. i have to be honest and say no not really, but i like how i feel afterwards and that keeps me moving, i cycle around 20 to 25 miles a day sometimes on my exercise bike in front of my tv and sometimes if its a nice day, on my road bike i also do strength training .. this has served me well for quite some time and allowed me to lose the weight i needed and not get fed up doing it .. so get moving and the weight loss is a good motivator
  24. its hard to get going again but u have made a good start keep up the good work !
