  1. You don't need willpower, you need discipline. If we had willpower we wouldn't have been fat! However, you must have the discipline to follow the program. I strongly encourage you to review my blog entries from day 1 so you can "share" my experience and see that you are not alone. I lost 100 pounds to my goal in 6 months and I can help you do the same.

  2. continued hunger is a sign that you are not following the protocol correctly. You need to eat bulky foods that fill you up, like cream of wheat and not drink milk or other high calorie low density foods! I have lost 102 pounds in 6 months to my goal weight and have not exercised 1 second, all by following the recommended eating strategy. I ate less than 750 calories per day for 3 months and was never hungry. Eat smart!

  3. Losing weight has less to do with a fill than the right attitude. I was banded 5-10-11 and by 11-10-11 I lost 100 pounds to my goal. I was never banded. I do no exercise at all. It is all about calories in and calories out. I keep meticulous track and for the first 4 months did not go over 750 in a day. Now i allow myself 1100-1200 because I want to lose 14 more pounds. (my doctor says it is ok)

    So....

Do you keep track of what you eat? Plan your meals? Take the food onto your plate you are allowing yourself and no more after that?

Do you avoid: caloric add-ons to food. For example I use yellow mustard on everything. (it is zero/tsp but brown mustard is 5/tsp) Do you use zero-calorie dressings for your salad? Do you avoid ketchup and oil-based condiments?

Do you NEVER drink 10 minutes before to an hour after your meal? This is btw my NUMBER 1 rule. It allows delayed emptying and you stay hungry longer.

Do you keep very low cal snacks in the frig such as: no far sugar free puddings, pickles (which are zero) lettuce, sweet peppers, etc?

Did you have dessert on Thanksgiving?

  4. self-awareness is a wonderful thing. But I have noticed that too many people think the LapBand is a be-all and end-all of their obesity issues. From the start for myself I viewed it as a great way to diet successfully. Most fat people know how to diet but fail because they get hungry eventually and they aren't full. As you point out, with the band, we feel full (or satisfied as you put it) and we don't get hungry as easily. By counting calories, my old standby technique I have lost 93 of my 101 pounds in 5 1/2 months so far. I expect to be done in 6months. Good luck 2 u and I am glad your journey is nearly over.

  5. If you are losing weight, you do not need a fill. My doctor believes that you only fill when you need to jumpstart your weight loss. On the other hand, your idea that you want to enjoy the holidays is a little scary. We are like alcoholics in that when we had the surgery we mentally and physically committed to never and I mean NEVER binging again. NO MORE "ENJOYING" the holidays. Enjoyment comes from the faces of people who admire the new you, the one who doesn't need seconds or thirds anymore. I strongly encourage you to read my archived blogs at

  7. I don't understand why your surgeon would schedule for a fill when you are doing so well? My surgeon only does it if you are having trouble losing weight. I am 5 1/2 months pot-op and down 91 pounds so I haven't had one ever nor will I need one I guess. My target is only 10 pounds away and I will be done at 6 months! Come see me at my outside blog:

  8. I eat 800 calories per day and keep careful track of it all. I am 5 months post-op and have lost 86 pounds of the total 101 I need to lose. I respectfully suggest that perhaps you are consuming the so-called hidden calories that everyone talks about. If you like, I would be glad to review a week's worth of food and check to see that you are not overlooking those annoying calories. I cannot possibly be condescending because we are all in the same boat.
