Question for you all about complication
I agree right after the surgery there is a risk, but not 8 months later! Like I said he is my PCP, not my surgeon and I think he spouting off facts he is really has not educated himself on. Honestly I believe I have spent more time reseaching the subject of VSG than he has. I went to all the lung doctor tests pre op and I was cleared just fine, I have never smoked and have no other problems I know of. I think it is just him trying to sound all important like, He giving me the lecture at my appointment of how important it is for me to take Vitamins, excersise ect and then he throughs in there you know all gastric bypass, ( I corrected him) at risk of lung collapse. Clearly he is speaking out of turn here.

Question for you all about complication
Recently I fired my WLS surgeon, and for the time being my PCP is following me. Twice now he has said to me that I am at greater risk for lung collapse. So yesterday I said to him, "Even 8 months post op?" and he said yes. Now I know he is out of his realm here, but is he right? I can see shortly after surgery and if I had a leak but forever? Any one else ever heard of this?

A tender moment with my Dad that I'll never forget...
That is special! I often wish my Dad were here to see what I have done and how far I have come. I am sure he looks down from Heaven and smiles, as I know he was always concerned for me.

Burping
Give it time, you are swollen and healing, You don't want them putting anything down there to irratate things further. Each day will get better. Are you using the little medicine cups they gave you in the hospital? We can not gauge how much liquid we put in our mouths with out them. I was told one medicine cup every 30 minutes and all would be fine.

Solid numbers to show how my health has improved
My cholesterol used to be off the charts crazy, triglycerides through the roof. Today my doc told me he does not have any other patients with numbers as good as mine! At 4 months post op my Lipid profile was as follows: Triglycerides 101 HdL 52 ldl 113 Total cholesterol 185 Now at 8 months Triglycerides 55 HDL 114 Ldl 66 Total cholesterol 191 So if you are not sure what all that means here is some info: LDL (low density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "bad" cholesterol) HDL (high density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) Triglycerides (fats carried in the blood from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into triglycerides and stored in fat cells throughout the body.) Results of your blood test will come in the forms of numbers. Here is how to interpret your cholesterol numbers: LDL Cholesterol LDL cholesterol can build up on the walls of your arteries and increase your chances of getting heart disease. That is why LDL cholesterol is referred to as "bad" cholesterol. The lower your LDL cholesterol number, the better it is for your health. The table below explains what the numbers mean. LDL Cholesterol LDL-Cholesterol Category Less than 100 Optimal 100 - 129 Near optimal/above optimal 130 - 159 Borderline high 160 - 189 High 190 and above Very high If you have heart disease or blood vessel disease, some experts recommend that you should try to get your LDL cholesterol below 70. For people with diabetes or other multiple risk factors for heart disease, the treatment goal is to reach an LDL of less than 100. HDL Cholesterol When it comes to HDL cholesterol -- "good" cholesterol -- the higher the number, the better it is for your health. This is because HDL cholesterol protects against heart disease by taking the "bad" cholesterol out of your blood and keeping it from building up in your arteries. The table below explains what the numbers mean. HDL Cholesterol HDL-Cholesterol Category 60 and above High; Optimal; helps to lower risk of heart disease Less than 40 in men and less than 50 in women Low; considered a risk factor for heart disease Triglycerides Triglycerides are the chemical form in which most fat exists in food and the body. A high triglyceride level has been linked to the occurrence of coronary artery disease in some people. Here's the breakdown. Triglycerides Triglyceride Category Less than 150 Normal 150 - 199 Borderline high 200 - 499 High 500 or higher Very high Total Cholesterol Your total blood cholesterol is a measure of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and other lipid components. Doctors recommend total cholesterol levels below 200 Total Cholesterol Category Less than 200 Desirable 200 - 239 Borderline High 240 and above High So basically my bad cholesterol and bad triglycerides have been cut in half and my good cholesterol has doubled! All to the benefit of diet and exercise!

Feel Dumb for Not Having 'Food Funeral'
You are all the better for not having a food funeral! Think about how much less you have to loose post op! It shows resolve and certain success with the sleeve! Trust me when i tell you a few months into the sleeve food will not longer be a focus for you and you wont miss it!
-
A PRE-OP VICTORY YEAH FOR ME
Congrats! Just proves you are more than ready for sleeve!

Burping
It will decrease in intensity and frequency, but my experience is that burping is my new norm at 8 months. I have found all kinds of creative ways to burp quietly:)
-
Pickles Anyone?
You now it is funny, but my daughter craved pickles right out of gastric bypass and I craved them after the sleeve. I think it is because we decrease our sodium intake so much with the post op diet and feel the need to crunch too! I believe I ate a pickle slice at about 6 weeks. I would say try one at home, take a small bite and chew chew chew, wait 15-20 minutes and you will know then if you are going to slime or hurt. Just have one! if you tolerate it and go from there.

Blood Pressure Meds
I went home off bp meds from the hospital. I was on 5 bp meds prior. I am not sure why all of the sudden i did not need them, it was not like I lost all the weight over night. I think there is more to HBP than weight,

Came across this cartoon and it made me chuckle
- Thank you to my wife!
What an awesome feeling it must be to have such a supportive wife!- My Mexico Sleeve Story
Thank you for the post. I was sleeved in the states but I remember reading with great interest the story of Mexico sleevers and I applaud you for doing it!- 1 week and 2 days post op I need in couragement
Instead of focusing on what has not happened, take not of what has!!! When have you ever lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks? This is a journey, not a marathon. Look at my ticker, I and many others are proof the sleeve will work for you! Your body is in shock and desperatly trying to hold on to what is "normal" for it. You will loose inches when you are not losing on the scale and you will loose on the scale when you are not loosing inches!- Water and Food - Fighting for space?
3 days post op I accidently gulped water and ran to the bathroom awaiting certian doom. NOTHING HAPPENED! Now with that said, you will find during meals there will be no room for more than 1 oz of lquids. Not to worry, you will be hungry in a new way that makes you eat before you drink. an hour later, you can drink, even gulp. Maybe not at 2 months, but at 4 monhs yes. Don't sweat it all, your body will guide you!- Eye problems
I had all kinds of blurry vision, turned out my eyes improved by a whole number in each eye. Doc attributes it to stable blood sugars. Wait it out if you can so you don't spend too much in glasses:)- Incision sites and plateau
It is normal for you to feel a hardness under your incision sites. As long as they are not bright red, hot or oozing it is part of the normal healing process. As for thost dang stalls,,, UGHHH,, mine have been as short as 2 weeks and as long as 6 weeks. Keep your measurments, it will get you past the scale head game as you lose inches even when stalled!- I'm new here!!!!
Welcome ♥- Bike-riding
Did I ever mention how much I LOVE my bike???????? I had not rode a bike in over 20 years. I decided Early this spring at about 175 to go rent one and try it out, just to see if I was capable. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO FREE as I do when I am on a bike! I crave it now! I pass the bike trails on the way home from work and it motivates me to get in the house, change and be off on my bike! 2 months after I started riding I joined the Tour De Cure for Diabetes, before that tour the farthest I had gone was 17 miles, being around all those slim professional riders inspired and I did 35 miles that day! Let me warn you, once you are hooked it can get expensive The odometer computer, the helmet the jerseys, the riding pants, the lock, the rack for your bike so you can ride to the store, the pannier bag to bring home your groceries on your rack, and last but not least now the shoes with hooks, they really do make a difference tackling the hails,, you are pushing and pulling with the shoes on:) Don't say I did not warn you how much fun you would have:)- Last Day of Pre-op Diet
Your bodies have entered starvation mode. Your body is like "What the heck?" It figures it is under attack and holding on to everything for dear life! No worries,, You will be dropping weight after surgery! Congrats on sticking to your guns and your soon to be sleeve!- Does everyne lose their hair???
I am faithful to my vitamins and Protein to this day. I did not take Biotin, still don't. I use Noxium because I got a heck of deal on it, 10 bucks for a 40 dollar bottle! Do I believe it has made a difference? No not really, but at that price it can hurt. My hair loss has been very noticeable in the front. I used to have bangs just above my eyebrows and now I am lucky the center of my bangs comes midway down and the hair on the sides is only about 1 inch right now. SO YES OTHER NOTICED. That is why I got the replacement clip in bangs. However, I would never want to stay overweight to keep my hair. My hair will grow back, my weight wont and I feel so much better!- Does everyne lose their hair???
My significant loss began at 7 months. I lost it mainly in forehead and I have started wearing a hair piece. I am using Noxium and praying for the time I can chuck my fake bangs! I still like being thinner better than my hair:) And this too shall pass. - Thank you to my wife!
