  1. Is it your Doctor or work dictating your time off? I am taking FMLA and I hoping the doc will fill the paperwork out for 6 weeks and that I will be able use my disability insurance.
  2. We tried that with my daughter with the Nu Whey,,, it was nasty!
  3. Hi there, fellow Pcos sister here. As you know that makes us insulin resistant. I have taken off 40 pounds by eliminating sugars of all types and eating Turkey chef salads A LOT. The trick is to keep your Blood sugar level. I have replaced breakfast with a high quality protein drink and some days I also skip dinner and have a protein drink. No breads and lost of high protein. Out for dinner? Chicken and veggies only. Lunch? tuna fish, plain. Find something you like without the carbs and your blood sugar will stabilize and then the pounds come off. Best of luck to you, I know the battle is touch and temptations lurk everywhere.
  4. I am scheduled for Nov 23rd, (yeah so much for Thanksgiving). Any way my dilemma is with my kids, they are 18 and 22. They do not live with me and I am not sure I want to share with them as there is an ex husband component and I feel they will tell him and I just don't want him to have any knowledge of this surgery what so ever, I consider it a personal journey. I know they will tell him if I tell them, BUT obvousily I am going to miss Thanksgiving this year and I am considering telling them I have the flu that day. Then there are the people I work with. I have shared with one close coworker, however my work set up is that we have to eat at our work desks and there is one other lady in our room who will obviously notice I am not eating what I used to anymore. I am nervous about telling her because she has always been a snide person who makes comments about peoples weights and judges what they eat. I have been dieting and have taken off 40 pounds recently, so the additional weight loss will not be hard to explain to those who don't see me eating differently. So while I am very excited I have a date, I am have these few issues I am not sure what to do with. Any all advice is welcome.
  5. Thanks all, I have BCBS PPO in IL through the Carpenters union. I just heard, I HAVE a date! NOV 22! I started all this in July, I went to a "required" seminar where they take you from there to book your first appointment. I had my first Apt on Aug 9th and then about a week later went a pshch eval that I thought was rather easy. Then I waited and waited on the insurance, I guess they take you on a case by case basis and then they called and said I was approved about 3 weeks later, but as I stated above for the wrong surgery. So then 3 more weeks go by and I got approval for the right surgery. From there I have pushed straight through and took days off just to jump all the hoops. Support group meeting, nutritional counseling., phone counseling, and the pulmonologist was last week and today I have a date! I am excited and nervous all in one.
  6. The Kane Center I am going through requires one pre and one post op support group meeting. I have been to the pre support and I must admit I learned alot, but the one thing I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot of folks there who have had their surgeries and and well seemed to be "hooked" on support groups. I don't want food and my impending weight loss to be an obsession, just for it to become the norm. How many here go to support groups, or did? Do you prefer to get your support other places? I am all for learning, just not obsessing.
  7. Hello all! This is all becoming very real now. I went for my initial consult on August 9th. I asked for the the Sleeve procedure and then I was told my insurance was a case by case bases so they put in a request. I went to the Pschy evaluation and passed the oral and test just fine. I received a letter about a month later that I was approved so I called the insurance woman to ask what is next and she said for Bypass, right? I was like NO, Sleeve. She replied with well your doctor does not usually do that. I was dumbfounded as he went over it in detail with me, showing me a pen and saying that is the size my stomach would be, gerhlin ect, ect. So then they had to resubmit to my insurance company with the right code, in the meantime I went to the sleep study and have been having phone counseling on nutrition once a week per my insurance company. Yesterday I heard the sleeve was approved and I set up the lung doctor appointment for the 28th and and ultrasound for the 26th and a session with a Dietitian on Nov 3. The insurance woman at the doctors office said to call her if the lung doctor clears me that day and we will set up a date. I am really pushing for this year as I am looking at no deductible vs 3000 if I go into next year. I do not anticipate any problems at the lung doctor as I have never smoked, don't have asthma and they told me there was no apnea on my sleep study. I have been trying out all kinds of Protein drinks and have begun to substitute some for meals. In Jan of this year I was at 271 and in August I was down to 238, I was totally shocked. I can only contribute that to giving up Coca Cola and really paying attention to healthy options. I am on pins and needles hoping there are no more delays should they find something on my ultrasound or visit with lung doctor. At this point in time, besides getting as date before the end of the year, my biggest concern is my husband. I am really starting to resent him as he needs this surgery more than I do and all he keeps worrying about is when I will be able to go out to eat with him again. (it is a daily thing for him) I have gone over everything with him and yet he keeps acting like it is not real or I will just give in. Honestly I am willing to give up my marriage to be healthy if he does not come around. He refuses to go to support meetings with me and really does not listen when I tell him what I need to do for this. Is anyone else here with the Kane Center in IL??
  8. Hello, I have been approved by bcbs il physically and pscychology. Can anyone tell what a comprehesive weight loss progam is? I have been losing since Jan down to 238 from 271 by following what my doc told me to do, but no real program per say. Will that be counted?
  9. Hello, I have been lurking here for a while and reading and reading. In July I went down to take care of my daughter and grandbabies after she had gastric bypass. She had no complications, I was a bit shocked to see how much pain she was in the first week. Her biggest struggle however was breaking up with food and trying to get her protien down. Which leads me to the first of many questions I have. I am looking at the sleeve for myself and I read how people are having trouble with getting the protien down before their surgery. I understand afterwards but I am confused why it is a problem before and why would you need to? I had my initial consulation on August 9th and I am physically approved by my insurance and I just went for the pysch eval and the doctor said she seen no reason why she would not recommend me for the surgery. So now I wait to see what else the insurance company will want from me. I have to tell you I was all gun ho (sp?) until I read the complications section and I have to tell you I have been a bundle of nerves since I read it, not sure any longer if I should. I fear the leak and the possiblity of a long recovery. (fear of complictions, fear of finacial problems from it, dying) Thank you all for ahead of time for letting me state my concerns, feeback is more than welcom.
