Average Weight???
I have never been a "Normal" weight in my life, and I have had a lot of people asking me what I want to get down to after my surgery. I honestly don't know. When I search average I see things anywhere from 135 to 162. I told one person I was thinking 150 and she said there would be nothing left of me,,, really???? I think she was a nay sayer because she went on to say why are you doing things, you have lost so much already and look great. I am like, look great at 225 pounds??? I am 5 foot three, I started this journey at 271, I am down to 220 and my surgery is tomorrow, any any ideas of what "normal" is?

Anyone see Rachel Ray Thursday?
I re-watched the show as I had recorded it and their "expert" just stated that some 50% fail. The woman they had on the show had regained over a hundred of the two hundred pounds she lost. The showed video of her eating this huge cheeseburger, not very flattering. Clearly she did not address her food addiction at all if she was able to get that much and kind of food down after bypass surgery. Can you imagine how much food must be going in if there is malabsorbstion still in play??

Surgery next week... HELP with Protein!
I found Premier Protein shakes from Costco to be very tasty, rich and smooth. You can also order them from amazon. You get 30 grams of protein per serving. Also as stated above the no flavor whey protien mixes well with pudding and yogurt as well as hot cereal providing you let it cool to the package's stated temperature to add protein.

Want Details!!!!!
I had to attend a seminar, next was the first Doctors appointment where they did a H Pylori and Vitamin d level (personally I think it was just to make more money on the visit). Next was a Psych Eval, when that was approved then my insurance had a lady calling me doing phone coaching addressing eating habits, weight loss progress and emotional issues. A sleep study was ordered and when then a visit with a pulmonologist who did testing and reviewed the sleep study. He asked if I had ever had a stress test but decided from my test results it was not necessary. After he cleared me I had to meet with a nutritionist and attend at least one support group meeting and an abdominal ultrasound and I then got the date! My pre op testing at the hospital included an EKG, an Upper Gi and Chest xray. Now, two more sleeps and I will be sleeved!

BBQ recipe post brought this question to mind
I too love BBQ, but I consider it one of my "trigger" foods. By trigger I mean I just want to eat and eat it if I it is around. A couple other foods for me like that is Tuna salad, egg salad, choc pudding and especially SO good BBQ oh and spaghetti. So I try to avoid having them all in the house or making them. My question is does anyone else have this problem too? If so how has the sleeve helped you or not helped you or does that all go to the wayside afterward as there just is not room for too much of your trigger foods?

Only 2 days left
Well Tuesday is fast approaching, I am excited and nervous all in one. It seems like it was such a long trip to get here that I need to readjust from looking forward to a life changing procedure to looking forward to the changes. Does that sound weird??? the goal for so long was just getting a date and now that the date is here there is a need to shift my focus??? Last night was WEIRD dream night, I know if is my subconscious working things out but I kept dreaming I as at various places and I would catch myself just eating what ever was in front of me and then panic and run to spit it out. I tell I may need Valium by tomorrow night!

Over 3 Years and Counting...
Thank you NtyTxn, I had one of those very moments at 3am last night too! Except my anxiety is coming out in the form of worrying about money. I am taking a month off and my disability will kick in at 2 weeks and I have the first 2 weeks covered with sick and vacation time, but I get up and worry about "what if there is a lag time between the last check and the disability check, ect ect ect" So tonight it is Benidryl before bed! I will be at the hospital on Tues with bells on! They maybe jingling with all the nervous shaking going on

Reciepies from Dr Oz Show
Cauliflower pizza ingredients 1 cup cauliflower, grated 1/2 cup shredded light mozarella cheese 1 egg 1 tsp oregano 2 tsp basil 2 tsp parsley 1/2 tsp fennel 1 green pepper 1 onion 1 tomato Garlic powder, to taste Directions Chop pepper, onion and tomato. Set aside. Steam the cauliflower, let it cool and then grate it. Combine grated cauliflower with the mozzarella and egg in a large bowl. Spray a circular or rectangular metal pan with cooking spray before spreading the dough evenly. Sprinkle the dough with fennel, oregano, parsley and basil. Add garlic powder. Bake at 450° F for 12-15 minutes. Remove the dough from the oven and sprinkle chopped green pepper, onion and tomato, as well as the remaining mozzarella cheese on top. Return the pizza to the oven. Turn the heat up to broil and leave in until the cheese has melted and the crust is crispy. Flaxseed and Wheatgerm chicken Tenders Ingredients 6 breasts of chicken tenderloins 1 carton of egg beaters 1/2 cup of ground flaxseed 1/2 cup of wheat germ 1 tsp of Cajun seasoning 1 can of non-stick cooking spray 1/2 cup of ground almond meal (optional) Dry seasonings (garlic, onion powder, chili powder, paprika) to taste Directions Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine about half of the egg beater carton and cajun seasoning. In a large plastic ziplock bag, combine the mixture of wheat germ, ground flax seed and/or almond meal. Rinse chicken tenderloins with Water and vinegar, pat completely dry; excess water will prevent the chicken from becoming crunchy. Dip chicken into egg mixture, and put chicken into ziplock bag to shake with crumb mixture. Place pieces of chicken tenderloins on greased metal cookie sheet so that they don’t touch. Spray the top of the chicken with just a little of the cooking spray so that it will crisp. Bake for 30-45 minutes until the chicken appears to look like real golden fried chicken and chicken juices run clear. There are some really healthy recopiesDr OZ there, check them out!

Doing all the pre surgery date requirements!
Weird, I had the Psych office calling me for an appointment within 2 days. I would call the PPO ask for and administrator and have them set up an appointment while on the phone with you. If your PPO won't do it like that request the same of the referring doctor.

Hmm my doc said the drain would not hurt, but I have docs lie to me before. HOWEVER I had my gallbladder out the the old way 20 years ago, HUGE incision with 2 different drains and honestly even the foot long drain did not hurt, did feel good, but it wasn't painful coming out. But just in case I will save some of my pain med for just for my one week post op and take it right when we pull up to the office

Cancelled!!!
You know what I am going to write sleeve on my stomach before I go! When I first went to the doc we discussed sleeve and sleeve only, then the insurance gal says to me you have been approved for the band and I was like " ahhh no, the sleeve" and she said to me " Dr.G doesn't usually do that surgery" So they resubmit, I get approved and I go for my pre op visit and the the girl says in the weigh in you are here for the lap band Pre op, and again I say NO, the sleeve! She looks again at the chart and makes a face. So when I see the doc I say to him, everyone here is trying to say I am having the band and your insurance girl says you usually don't do the sleeve. He replied," I do it all the time, it is not all that different than doing bypass, it is just half the work" So I asked him about the staple line and if he has good success with lack of leaks and he assured me he does and went on to explain what materials they use. Just to be on the safe side, I am marking myself!

Is this okay?
I am not expert but have been dieting in preparation for my surgery next week since July and right off the bat I was thinking Fat grams right off the bat followed by sodium. Ham is high in sodium as is and kind of sausage. Most sausage no matter what meat they pack into it, is usually laden with fat. But like I said I am not seasoned veteran, just looking at from the day to day in efforts to lose weight ( 46 pounds now) and that is what jumped out at me. 32 pounds in two weeks??? Simply AMAZING! I was also wondering if you body is having whoa there partner moment I might be giving away too much too fast.

Trip to TJ Maxx
I have never in my life shopped in the "normal" section. I have no clue what the difference between misses and petites are, or just what a size 10 falls under. I am almost more nervous about figuring all that out than getting the surgery, I guess I will have to employ the help of a " normal" size person for a "normal" shopping session!
