I think woman are MUCH more emotional and committed to the vows we made. ( well most woman are). Men in general ,, in general guys! are more physical. I too have to admit I am turned off by his SMELL, by his size, by his grunting and moaning just walking, however with that said I keep thinking about the for better or worse words in my vows and the fact I have one failed marriage. NO I am NOT happy, we have not had sex in months because I am both disgusted and afraid he would have have a heart attack and there I would be stuck there not able to lift him off me. (makes me sick). Don't be fooled, I have often, almost daily have visions of going to live with my daughter and my grand babies and being the full time grandma I desire so. However I then again come back to the fact I made a commitment, I took vows. Yes I know this is winding down do no good. These are things that hold me here, commitment, my Mother in her late years, comfort to my situation. When one of 3 are gone I will go to live the life of a traveling Army family to be a full time Grand Mom. I will miss my in law family, they are great people who have been super supportive. And Yes TIFF,, I am in a 100/0 relationship! For 2 weeks he has claimed to be eating better, but I don't believe him when he is not with me. You should have heard him giving me a guilt trip for wanting to cook last night when he wanted to go out to eat. He claimed he wanted to spend time with me and it was some how more special, I screamed at him we can spend special time any where, what was special to him was the fact it was food out of the house, some where any where in his mind! Then tonight I had to tell him I had a bug and was nauseous THREE times before I started yelling at him I was NOT going out, I took the day off work feeling sick! Then he says to me, what do you want to take out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow! I SCREAMED once again at him " I FEEL SICK< I want to BARF and you want to know WHAT IS FOR DINNER TOMORROW?????" Yeah, I have a real problem on my hands here!

11 months out. Few issues... are they normal?
I have had my Galbladder out and trust me that WAS PRESSURE building during those attacks. Try the burbing technique along with a sip of a carbonated beverage to assist in burping. One other thing I have read about is esophageal spasm. I had one in the hospital right after surgery and it was very simular to my current pain but WAY more intense! One thing you said is that it always happens at work at lunch,,, one thing I caught on to with eating at work was that I was distracted while eating at work and not only did I not chew enough, I also took into much air while eating because I was talking to others. Once I pulled back and concentrated on the food the times this pain happens to me is far and fewer in between. The one factor I found in dealing with pain,, tensing up and panic makes it worse,,, I walk and I burp and from now on I will grab a drink of diet soda to speed things along! If this technique does not work talk to your doc! I think I read somewhere there is medicine for esophageal spasms!

11 months out. Few issues... are they normal?
I have the opposite problem from diarrhea since surgery, thought I have read that many become lactose intolerant after VSG, so maybe??? As far as that pain you described, I get it occasionally too. Is it like a pressure building? Do certain positions seem to make it worse? I have found my pain is trapped air. I found forcing myself to burp really helps. Yesterday i had about a 20 minute episode and burping provided relief for about 20 seconds. Then I grabbed a diet coke and took a drink ( you know you start trying anything to get rid of it) and that did the trick whola! The carbonation in the pop released the trapped air and up came a large burp and then total complete relief!

What a nice beginning!!
Congrats on being brave enough to do this at your young age with a small child! You have made absolutely the best decision of your life besides becoming a mother! Now you will avoid a life full of medical complications and just being too big to fully participate in your childs life! I so wish the sleeve was an option 20 years ago! I feel at 47 I wasted my life being fat. I admire you!

Welcome! You will do fine and will not need the bypass! I too was all of the sudden just ready for this surgery.Very calming sense of peace came over me, followed by some nerves( I have decided that was the unconscious mind fighting me) and I have NOT regretted my surgery one time! This absolutely the best thing I have ever done for myself my entire life!

I am finally able to begin posting....
- First eating out - Nothing like expected
- First eating out - Nothing like expected
For me, right up till I left work for surgery i told NO one, then it occurred to me that it was consuming entirely too much of my energy to "keep up appearances" and I told those who closest to to me what I was having done. I am happy know with my decision to share. Now that I am down 112 pounds no one gives me crap for the way I did it, only encouragement! Our conversations have gone from how much have I lost to what exercise we are into right now it and it feels AWESOME! The fact that I ate 3 pieces of sushi for lunch today or that one chicken finger was more than enough yesterday is the norm now and no longer the the focus of attention. My weight loss has even inspired another co worker to see my surgeon and start the process. I offer her my counsel of having been there and done that.- Goodbye 160's! AMEN!
Thank you all! I am ready to tell the doc to just put a walking a cast on the foot so I can do as I please with no worries! However he wont and I WANT to ride my bike! But seeing the weight loss in the right direction has helped a little!- Scared of PE
There are the injections that are the norm, then there is a filter they can place pre surgery if are of higher risk. My Ex husband has survived 3 blood clots despite my wishes:) If you know what I mean:)- Spouse or Sig other
Thank you everyone for the kind words that am not a uncaring B! As a matter of fact I have one failed marriage of 16 years and this relationship/marriage combo is at 10 years and I have not left him except that one time for his depression/laying in bed issues for a year. While I am embarrassed at his current size and disgusted by his smell( I will save you the real details here) I am sticking it out because my marriage commitments ring quite loud in my head and I really don't want to give up his great family! At 47 I love the family feel of his family (brothers and sisters and really great Mom in law!) but I am scared for him as much as I digusted and embarrassed at the same time. It is really only a matter of time before he loses this job. The union is really only his saving grace! I have since my divorce always made sure financially I can take care of me first, so that is not my main consideration, truth be told I would really give all this up right now to go be a full time Grandma! The thing that holds me back is my vows I made on the beach 6 years ago, I made a promise by the ocean and GOD and I am torn about what I feel.- Newbie from Chicago
Welcome! I am also from the Chicago area, Elgin area to be specific! Everyone is scared because we view this as something we choose vs something that happens to us and also I think the sub conscious works on us fighting the comfort level we are use to. I too had back problems that were constant for a year before I lost the weight. my s4 and s5 were causing constant pain, I could not even walk around my block with my dogs, then my Dad died of a stroke from High blood pressure and I took a good long hard look at my situation and the fact the 5 bp medications were barely controlling y my blood pressure and it all kinda hit at once in addition to my 24 year old daughter having gastric bypass ( her bravery to have wls really inspired me) and I suddenly just knew it was my time to to this! Despite all the times I tried to *reason* myself out of the surgery, there was a place deep down that knew and felt the surgery was just right for me at this time in my life. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner, ohh the fun I could have in my youth and the better skin I would have had! I have meant with a a couple of folks in the are who had questions and wanted to know more, I would be happy to do the same with you!- Spouse or Sig other
I have been wanting to vent on this very subject for a long time! I was worried I would come across wrong or just a b***h. My husband is well over 400 pounds and at it is disabling to him. Now I must say even before the surgery I was getting embarrassed by his size, but now I not only embarrassed and refuse to even walk close to him in public, but I am disgusted! I can't stand how much he eats in front of me and I know he is pigging out in secret. I can't stand his smell, his moaning because his knees hurt, his inability to walk to up the stairs without sounding like he just ran 5 miles, his psoriasis that is clearly affected by what he eats. I have even stopped keeping my clothes in or sleeping in our bedroom because it smells like him. He refused so see how pathetic his situation is. A few years ago he lost his job and laid in bed for a year, I moved out because I could not stand it. He refused to admit that if his Mother was not best friends with the wife of the president of his current employer he would not have a job period, The whole time I was checking in the hospital for my surgery, I kept thinking that everyone must be thinking why is she getting this surgery and not him. I was actually surprised that someone did not say something to him in some round about way. Kids point at him and make comments in public and yet he shovels in more food despite the kid who just said "Mommy" look at that fat man!" I realize it is easier for me being on the other side now to be critical of his food choices, but yes in all honesty losing the weight has made it so I see him in a very negative light now and I do not know what the future holds. I walk the fine line of trying to get him to have the surgery and not nagging him every day. At some point I think It will boil down to what I can accept any more and perhaps leaving him.- I did it too!!
Did you do the Happy Dance on the scale???/ Congrats! That is amazing work!- Goodbye 160's! AMEN!
Finally I seen 159 on my scale! I was starting to think my body had settled on 161 as a weight and despite a broken foot the damn scale moved to a number rI have not seen since Jr. High!- Throwing things away.
But just think how hot you will look in the current styles of your NEW SMALLER SIZES!- Sleeved and more confused than ever!
Just tune into YOUR body. Stop worrying about what others do or don't do and listen to your bodiy's clues If you listen for full it will tell you. The first few days are doing what you can, not about what your "supposed" to do so much. Go slow, check in mentally with your new tummy and go from there. These days are about hydration, not protien.- Unsupportive mother :(
I have come to the conclusion that the nay sayers and negative people about wls surgery are really speaking from their sub conscious and their own insecurities about themselves! The big people are scared to see you succeed because they feel bad they don't have what it takes to take control and the skinny people don't want see you change because in some sick way they get satisfaction of "being the better one". It all boils down to this, YOU have to do what YOU need to do! This surgery and the subsequent weight loss has to be about what YOU and YOU alone WANT for YOU! If you look to others for approval you are setting yourself up for failure. This has to be about you and YOU ALONE! - First eating out - Nothing like expected
