    New in the process..

Hi everyone! I’m just starting my process and was hoping maybe you all could give me some feed back of your beginning experiences. I’m very fortunate to have an insurance plan provides coverage for bariatric surgery (I am not sure which procedure I will be having yet- appt with surgeon is on 3/25). I just spoke with the coordinator at the surgeons office and she said that I have the option of doing a 12 month nutrition program through my pcp, or I can meet with their nutritionist for 12 visits at $35 each that insurance doesn’t cover. They have it set up that I am doing two nutrition appointments a week, so that meets the insurance requirement around mid May. Did anyone else have that happen? What was it like for you? I look forward to conversing with you all during this process. This is a big step and I have read people’s stories on this site and it is truly inspiring.

    Colonoscopy post-surgery

I scheduled my last colonoscopy in the afternoon, because I know with those, they have you drink half the fluid the night before and the other half in the morning. Figured that would be do-able, and it was. So if they insist you drink that ton of fluid again next time, schedule an afternoon appointment so you don't have to drink it all at once. Then it'll work...

    Help

I had gas pains after as well. Moving helps eliminate this. Walk around the house etc. def do small sips. Follow your Dr orders always helps. Good luck and welcome to the club

no - I had to do it for six months, meeting either my PCP or a dietitian at least once a month, but they didn't really care where I did it, as long as it was documented.

    Got sick

23 days post-op is still pretty early and it's really common at this stage to have unexpected reactions to foods when you try them for the first time. That's one reason why the vets tend to advise that you go slow with new foods so you can see how your tummy will respond. Sometimes things that make you sick early on are fine later and sometimes certain foods just won't ever sit right after surgery. I still can't eat ground beef and I'm almost 2 years out. Let your tummy be your guide on what you can and can't tolerate.

    Mini melt down

This is probably going to be a mess of a post. I tried to talk to a friend and just ended up crying and she didn't know what to say, and then when she tried to help it just made things worse. I know I am being a little nutty but I can't seem to find anyone that understands me right now. My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for Arizona for the month of March. This is the first of what will be many "winter" trips south. I turn 50 in May and we have planned to spend our winters down there for a very long time. We will be spending the month with a new group of people that will be our "new" neighbors, they have never really met us in person, we have emailed back and forth and spoke on the phone but that is about it. 5th wheel is packed, pickup is packed, everything is ready, BUT I can't find any summer clothes that fit me. Last summer I weighed 230 plus pounds and my clothes are still in the camper from when we were at the lake, I am about 157 now. I went to town and couldn't find anything that really fit me, everything I tried on I felt silly in, my husband kept saying everything looked fine. I feel like I have skin everywhere, I have no boobs anymore (good or bad I don't know how I feel about that) , NOTHING feels right. I was angry at him for really no reason but still angry because I felt like he couldn't see what I was seeing. I almost felt more comfortable in size 22. What the hell is wrong with me? I can't get past this feeling, I can see the numbers on the scale change, I see the clothes size changes but when I look in the mirror all I see is ick. I don't see a slender body, I see a chubby body with a crappy wrapping job. I have a freaking degree in psychology, I have spoke to kids about body dysmorphia in middle and high school, but I cannot seam to make my brain understand it has to work with my body on this......anyone else struggle with this?

    Day after

I was in the car for 3.5 hours the day after surgery...I don't remember much of it (I took a pain pill before we left), I wasn't happy to be in the car but I mostly slept. The worst was having to get out to use the bathroom...I looked like h*ll, and I'm sure people wondered what was up! But once we got home, I went to my own bed and slept, and felt MUCH better the next day. Good luck!
