    Coffee on liquid diet

Medically, coffee with no creamers/milk/etc is on a clear liquid diet. However, as others have said, during the bariatric process the caffeine is the issue. As all doctors seem to have their own dietary recommendations, please consult your surgeon's office for their dietary guidelines.

Firstly, congrats on your surgery. Whoo hoo! A lot of nerve endings were cut during surgery & for some people this temporarily results in not feeling full. This is why it’s so important to stick to your plan’s quantities. Don’t push more as you may affect your healing. Also fluids go through the system more quickly so you may not get the full message before it’s passed through your tummy. Cravings are in our heads which is why we need to do the ‘head work’ & identify why we eat, what we eat, when & how we eat. Are you eating out of habit, because of emotions or because you really are hungry. It takes time. I’m still learning. Good luck.

    Coffee on liquid diet

According to ASMBS guidelines, “Q: Do I need to avoid caffeine after bariatric surgery? A: Caffeine fluids have been shown to be as good as any others for keeping you hydrated. Still, it is a good idea to avoid caffeine for at least the first thirty days after surgery while your stomach is extra sensitive. After that point, you can ask your surgeon or dietitian about resuming caffeine. Remember that caffeine often comes paired with sugary, high-calorie drinks, so be sure you’re making wise beverage choices.” The BariatricPal Store carries a large selection of bariatric friendly coffee options at https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/coffee .

    Update

Congratulations. Stop experimenting and stick to your plan. It's difficult to not lose weight in the first few months. So, you can keep experimenting with foods you shouldn't be eating *or* you can stick to plan consistently and you will lose weight either way. You are conditioning yourself. What I eat, how much I eat now = weight loss. You are building your new habits now. Are you building the habits that will get you to goal and keep you there? I know I'm being "that person" but I've been around for a minute. I've seen the "I can eat anything" posts too often followed up a few months later with "I've stopped losing weight, what do I do?" By time it gets here it's too late. It's back at "I can eat anything" that the change needs to happen. Focus on your plan now. You can eat anything you want, in moderation, later. Honest. Good luck, Tek

How do I cut the candy?

That's where cutting a protein bar into 8 pieces and freezing them come in. Then instead of popping candy, you pop a bite size "candy bar" in your mouth! And you get nutrition and protein in at the same time.

    Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve

I am a 28 year old female with pcos. During the last three to four years, I became insulin resistant, pre diabetic and am now having periodontal issues. I am 5'2 and 175 lbs. I think that puts me to 31 or 32 on the BMI chart. I am working on having my surgery sometime in the next 3 months but I am also not getting any support from friends or family members. My sister is the only person supporting me. I wish people knew that just because one is not 300 pounds, it does not mean they don't have health issues that needs to be addressed.
