    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

I think I lost rather quickly and no real recovery issues. No energy at all for like 3-4 days but was back to work 1 week later.

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

I am 2 years post op now. That’s just what happened initially. Maintaining for over 1 year at 120lbs and try to eat at least 1800 cals a day

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

I started losing immediately after procedure. By my one week follow up I was down 11lbs! 5 was from the 2 day clear liquid diet before procedure. I lost 84lbs in 8-9 months. Only intended to lose about 55lbs but it kept going. You can put the brakes on the weight loss by upping your carbs and healthy fats to get more calories in I had one stall at the change from clear liquids to purée but only for 1 week

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

My BMI was 30.1 before surgery. Only qualified for ESG. I wasn’t worried about losing too much but I did lose more than I expected. 204lbs SW. 120lbs CW. I’m 5’7” so I’m thin but I feel fantastic, health is great and I’ve maintained for almost 1.5 years.

    Foods to gain weight?

Add in more carbs. I lost weight very quickly and I added carbs, higher fat condiments and just made sure to eat 6-7 small meals/snacks each day to stop the loss. I’m maintaining on around 1800 cals per day now

    Sent home after 7 hours!

I didn’t weigh myself until my 1st post op spot at 1 week. Lost 11lbs! I’d be willing to bet though that I would have seen gains right after surgery if I’d checked early on
  8. I was off my BP Med 2 weeks after ESG. The only word thing was that at my 1 year lab work my Colerain was slightly elevated at 219. Will have it checked again at 2yr (September) and see if it is back in normal range

You may need to add in more calorie dense foods and fats and cut back on the veggies a bit. They do fill you up and are healthy but don’t give much as far as calories go.

Vets - How often do you weigh yourself?

I weigh one time a week...Tuesday’s (I had the surgery on a Tuesday). I’m just over 1 year out. I think I’d make myself crazy weighing daily! Lol

That is odd! Not sure how you are expected to maintain if you eat the same calories that make you lose... I don’t think it could hurt to add 100 cal a day for a week or two at a time to see where you stop losing. That’s how I found my maintenance level (1600-1900....so far. Maybe I could do 2000?). Then again I’m not your nutritionist or dr. Are there other nutritionist at the surgeons office you could call and talk to? Or could you talk directly to the surgeon or a PA to get their thoughts on this?

It takes awhile to add calories and can kind of freak you out a bit. We are used to being on a certain plan and to start stretching it a bit and allowing formerly forbidden foods (carbs) is weird. I guarantee if you do this gradually and focus on good carbs (a little rice is ok if you can tolerate it) it will be ok. Getting past 800 cal a day was my first hurdle. I did it in 100 cal per day increments and once comfortable with that I added another 100. I still don’t do noodles at all and only have bread about 1x a week. I’m at 1600 to 1900 cal per day depending on my activity level and desire to eat. Hang in there....it gets easier as you see you won’t gain weight back if you stay mindful of what and how you eat!

    Food addict

I found Weight loss surgery podcasts the other day. The first one I listened to (while on a 4 mile walk) was about food addiction. Very informative. If you listen you will see that your surgery will be the break you need to reset your body and calm it eliminate those good addictions.

...every now and then that is! Where in the world did bus come from?!😂

Definitely try a higher calorie shake if some sort if the volume of food is difficult. I actually have an Ensure every bus and then to help keep calories up. Our tummies only hold so much but can def handle a 8oz 220 calorie drink!
  17. Had ESG in Sept 2018. I went from 204 to 121lbs in 10 months. Yay!! Only was really shooting for 155 but I feel good at 121 but could certainly stand to get some muscle back and probably put on a little weight ( I’m 5’7”). So I’ve begun walking and doing some weight training the last couple weeks. All was hood the first week or two as I wasn’t real consistent. I was eating around 1600 cal as that was helping me maintain my weight at least. Then I weighed myself Friday and I was 118!!! I know I need to eat more calories but not sure exactly how much. I know I can play with it and see what works but I also have a hard time upping the calories. At 1600-1700 I feel like I eat all day. Ideas?

    Maintaining weight when working out

Thanks for the suggestions! I know it takes time and my stomach capacity will increase too. Freaked out a bit when learning the cal level to maintain but figured that out! It’s a process! The protein powder, in a decreased amount, sounds like a good idea

    Maintaining weight when working out

I do have one premier protein shake each day but may add another.

You can find charts online that will figure the # of calories you need to maintain based on age, height, weight etc. you definitely need over 1000. I’m at around 1600 to maintain. I’m 5’7” 120lbs, 54yo and moderately active. I can probably go higher and am trying to get there. It is hard with our tiny tummies but can be done.

This! 100% this!^^ I’ve found every single one pf your points to be true. There’s like a maintenance hump you have to get over before you can relax and find your new normal. Definitely you learn that you do have control over your body and it’s gaining and losing.

ms.sss- Yes! This is my experience too. Each week I maintain, I realize I’m not going to pack on the pounds eating the way I do. Very empowering!💪🏼🎉

    The Maintenance Thread

1964 is my birth year. I had surgery 9/25/18. I’m actually going to play around with maintenance calories and up to 1700. Trying to see the highest amount where I still maintain.

    The Maintenance Thread

Maintenance is a total head game! We are so good at the weight loss and watching that # go down is so motivating! I had a tough time switching from bariatric eating mode to something I could live with long term. At first as u add in some carbs and calories u may feel guilty or terrified of piling on pounds. Guess what? You won’t. I kept losing for awhile as I tried to find that sweet spot where I could maintain. I had to get to an average of 1500-1600 calories to maintain. Amazingly that’s what the charts said I’d need for my age, weight and height. Now I had thought I’d need to put on 10lbs or so and just couldn’t imagine my body would like hanging out at 121lbs but it seems to like that # for now! 3weeks in a row! Don’t stress too much and add in 100-200 extra calories a day each week till u find what works. Stick with healthy, lower carb foods but let those carb levels go up some...u won’t magically regain all your weight doing so. I still track my food because left to my own devices I would be perfectly content eating 800 cal a day which would be unhealthy. It actually feels like I eat all day long and that’s weird but I sure don’t feel deprived.
