    Discouraging friends

Hello all! So my surgery date is quickly approaching. I haven’t really told many people that I’m having it mostly because some of my friends reactions have been rather discouraging. They almost have a tone like I’m being frivolous or ridiculous for having the sleeve, when I believe I’m doing something to prolong my life. I mean even if everyone I knew disagreed I know this is what I’ll need to get back to a normal BMI. I just wasn’t expecting certain people to react so negatively towards it.

You will find that everyone and their mother will have an opinion of your weight/weight loss. It was a very annoying aspect of this whole thing for me. If it's any consolation, after a while, you and your weight will become old news and no one will bother making comments/provide advice/express concern, and the like. Try to let it roll off your back and just stay the course. The minor annoyances you have to deal with now will be nothing compared to how awesome you will feel later. Good Luck!

I'm sorry that your friends aren't being supportive. Use it as motivation and prove them WRONG by being successful after surgery and hitting all of your personal goals! Best of luck to you!!

I'm on a super restrictive milk diet so yeah... feel you. No food, no jello, no posicles, no protein nuthings... grrrr! Milk/soy/Fairlife substitute, broth, and flavored water. Yum! I drink 120 ounces of water day, with propel drops in for some for electrolytes. I think that has saved me since I am still cooking for the family and working out. If it wasn't for the pounds coming off.... *crazy face* So much of this is mental over physical, because it is very physically hard but it is also possible if we can dig in and remember our reasons. I also preloaded this whole 2 weeks "meals" into MyFitnessPal and if I don't break my diet I have set myself a reward of 3 new Audible codes for day of surgery. Day 11 is done, 2 more to go, 1 of clear fluids only and I WIN! (Have I mentioned I am also highly competitive and have made this a me vs the milk diet for strongest will?) "I'm gonna win, it's gonna lose" also plays in my head a lot when the going gets tough.

I'm 6.5 months post op and can eat most things obviously if I try sugar it will make me feel bad but in general I can tolerate most things with little issues and the bypass has been amazing I've lost over 150lbs

Take a look at the maintenance meals thread or the Food before and after thread. Many people who're quite far out post pictures of their meals there. If you already have a benign mass down there in your distal esophagus I wouldn't postpone any longer, especially since your surgeon also recommends it.

    Thoughts on revision?

Interestingly enough some people never seem to lose that feeling of hunger. Nobody will ever know if these patients never lost physical hunger at least temporarily in the first place or if they're confusing "head hunger" with "physical hunger". There is no test that can differentiate between the two. Acid reflux is the devil. Bile reflux is the devil's big fat mother. I got two revisions because of these issues, both times associated with hiatoplastic because of hiatus hernia. My second revision was on 26th February and this time eating is more "problematic" so to say. The MGB seems to be more "forgiving" than the long limb RNY in some way. Or maybe I just don't remember several issue I had in the first months after MGB, not sure. In general dense foods tend to give me stomach ache and sometimes sit in the stomach like a brick and I hate this feeling so I understand not wanting to eat heavy/dense foods. It's always hard to tell via internet. Regarding the vomiting after dense food it might be that you're eating too fast or too much or don't chew well enough or a combination of this. However, this is something only you can tell. Maybe you could try a denser food, chew the heck out of it, stop after a few bites or set a timer to e. g. 20 min and take your time. Regarding the reflux you could play around with different foods. I'm sensitive to e. g. dairy, dry red wine and in general very fatty foods, with nuts and nut based foods being an exception. The combination of high protein and fat is the worst regarding my stomach issues. It also can help having a time span of about 2 h between last meal and going to bed. However, if your reflux is that bad you might consider revision to RNY anyway regardless of weight.
