Amen! I totally agree...but I think I wasn't prepared for...just how many. Heck, I haven't even started in on the 'after WLS weight drop'...well, at least it is something I can continue to be ready for. It still doesn't change my mind one little bit. Most of the ones that will show up will be ones I would have likely gotten and already have been noticeable if I hadn't been morbidly obese..

Its hard to believe that this kind of surgery has been around this long already. Yes I had this done 45 years ago in Traverse City at Munson Hospital. Back then it was an open surgery they staple the stomach and create a small pouch then it is bypassed to the jejunum. While they were doing this surgery back then all the organs were removed and cleaned out. You stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, much different then how it is done now adays. I have maintained the weight loss over the years, however, there was a few years when I had put on up to 40 pounds and just started slowly getting it back off once I realized what I was doing.

    After effects

I am 3 days post op and I’m experiencing diarrhea and chest pains when I breathe in hard and drink gulps of water. Has anyone else ever had these issues?

    Bariatric Surgeon vs General Surgeon

On the insurance front, companies may well cover WLS, but the employers who buy the policy may choose to exclude that benefit to lower their (short term) cost. If you are dealing with job provided insurance, there may be other providers available during the open enrollment period that do provide the WLS benefit, or it may be worth your while to go with an outside policy that does cover it (though I suspect that it wouldn't be worth the cost, but worth checking out,) or changing providers if you are already on private insurance if the costs work out. On Mexico, there are lots of people who have a very positive experience and there are plenty of good surgeons there; however, you don't have the recourse there if something doesn't work right - surgically or contractually - which is a big part of the reason that they are cheaper. Due diligence is the word of the day. In the States, you can shop around and see who has the friendliest self pay programs; IIRC, there is a program around Las Vegas that seems to have fairly friendly rates of around $10k or so for a VSG, which isn't that much higher than the better MX programs.

    After effects

I had same problem breathing in. So much preasure in my chest. Hiccups and yawning were the worst feeling for like 3 weeks. I did that air breathing in and out thing a few times a day. Diarrhea lasted i think 2 weeks or so then turned into constipation. Im one month post op and still hate drinking water its annoying.

    Bariatric Surgeon vs General Surgeon

So, I found out my insurance won't cover bariatric surgery. Disappointed considering that I thought insurance companies were covering it. Anyone have any recommendations to proceed?

Sleeve to Bypass for Weight Loss

to answer any questions off of the bat... my sleeve was successful in terms of moving things forward. I lost the 100 or so lbs right away, haven't gained it back, solved a significant health problem, and can run! I can get down to 295 or so but I tend to bound to between 310-320 and stay there. Just looking to take the next step.

I am 3 days post OP and I have painful hunger pains. I guess it's not completely uncommon. I was surprised though considering I thought I wouldn't have hunger pains after surgery. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Goal after I reach my goal.

With 39lbs left to go before plastics in November, I am starting to look towards my next goal. Last weekend, my coworker expressed that she was embarrassed at the gym because she didn't know how to use any of the equipment. I went in an hour before my class with her and showed her a lot of things. I timed her wall squats, showed her proper form, and every time she would say she sucked or was weak, I was the opposite of my usual self and was very motivating and encouraging. She even offered to pay me for the session! I've been thinking a lot about this and how great I felt helping someone else. I think I want to pursue a certificate in personal training in 2020 and do that part-time. It was so fulfilling! And I found myself echoing the things my trainer tells me. He's rubbed off on me!
