neither surgery will help with food addiction - they just restrict how much you can eat at one sitting. For food addictions, most people work with a therapist who's familiar with eating disorders.

Can I start taking Ibuprofen again ?

I was told forever and to have it put on my allergy list. It increases the risk of ulcers.

I've been on antibiotics a handful of times since my surgery (eight years ago) and never had any issues. Maybe some are absorbed in different places of the small intestine than others? Not sure. but I've never had any issues. I also don't think I've had a UTI since I had surgery. I used to get them occasionally prior to surgery. Maybe because it's easier to keep cleaner without all that extra weight (?) (I think I remember reading that a lot of UTIs are caused by fecal bacteria contamination) EDITED to add: I just glanced at these articles. Yes - one does say that most UTI's are caused by E. coli bacteria - that particular bacteria is usually carried by feces, because there's a ton of E. coli in your intestines. I bet the ability to keep cleaner "down there" is probably the reason I haven't had a UTI in years.

    I’m terrified

I am only one month into my 6 month pre op program. I finally got to speak with my nurse that knows the ins and out of insurance. She said I don’t have to lose a certain amount of weight, which I knew, but she said I can’t gain. I’m eating better, but I keep gaining and losing the same two pounds, and right now I’m on my period, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it, but do they not take into account water retention and genuinely things that aren’t really within our control? I only drink water and I sweeter decaf tea. I drink 64 oz a day. Plus my protein shakes. I am just terrified if I go in and I’ve gained even an oz, they’re going to kick me out of the program, even if I’ve been losing up until that point. I’m struggling mentally with all of this. Anybody have any advice or word to calm my nerves? You all have been wonderful in answering all of my questions. I have Indiana hip plus ( Medicaid) if that matters.

    I’m terrified

I'd be surprised if they weren't accepting of a 1-2 lb gain (if that's all it is) since people's weight fluctuates every day (in fact, MORE than once a day!). But if you're really worried, you could always do low sodium or low carb for a few days before you're weighed since either of those would rid you of excess water (which is what usually causes those temporary fluctuations).

    Moving After Surgery

I am an accountant. I know people in my profession all over. I've met them in training and conferences. I know know who the really good ones are. They are usually presenters in the trainings. I would ask your current surgeon for a referral. Dietician also.

    Moving After Surgery

I would start calling bariatric doctors in your new location and ask the questions. Different doctors have different requirements. For me, my doctor saw me at 3 wk, 6wk, and will again at 6 months and at a year, as well as and every year after. I am also required 6 month labs, year labs, and labs every year after.

    Still Undecided.....

is easy (and normal!) to have swirly thoughts. but really, you'll know if you have issues when u know. and when you do, you can deal with it then. easy to say, yes, i know. but take it from the multitude from the other side, alot of the worries you are having now are more likely at worst, temporary, and and best, unfounded. Good Luck! ❤️

If you can keep your nerve and get to the hospital on the day then you will thank yourself three months down the line. If you bottle it then in 12 months you will be back on the bariatric treadmill wishing that you will have enough courage this time around. We were are scared, its the unknown. Like @ ms.sss says I too would have this done again in a heartbeat. It has changed my life. Its worth it. The pre op diet is so tough it feels like you have to earn the surgery. I hated that diet so badly, I almost ran to the operating theatre

    The Fourth of July

Yesterday I was driving to work listening to public radio, when without preamble they did an extraordinary thing. They read the Declaration of Independence, with different radio personalities taking different paragraphs; the voice was always changing. It was mesmerizing! I don't know that I've ever heard the whole thing read aloud. By the time it was over I was moved to tears. We have a lot to be thankful for but most of all is this amazing country we live in. I hope everyone (well, the Americans among us, at least ) takes a minute or two this holiday weekend to think of our brave founders and marvel at their lasting achievement. Have a wonderful holiday, everyone!! :D
