Body image issues, emotional issues, regrets....interesting article

This one didn't ring true for me, but it reminded me a lot of some posts I've seen on here and I thought maybe someone would find it useful. https://www.womenshealthmag.com/weight-loss/a19995829/weight-loss-surgery-story/ -

one week post op weight stall
zombievsg and one other reacted to Sosewsue61 for a post in a topic
Get a grip, you are not stalled. You just had major surgery and you have inflammation, you had anesthetic and IV fluids and your body needs time. Follow the plan, follow the plan, follow the plan. Plus your bowels are probably not regular yet either... You will be fine. Relax. Get sleep. -
1 pointI didn't cheat on it as, like many, I didn't have a pre-op diet other than the empty the GI tract thing the day before surgery. It all depends upon your surgeon and how sensitive he is to the need to do such a diet - some are quite specific that they don't think that you did their diet when they get inside that they will close you up and have you try again (though I have never actually seen anyone have this happen,) while others could care less about the diet as they know what they are doing in there irrespective the liver shrinking thing (or whatever rationale they are using.) Some quite specifically don't want their patients fasting for weeks ahead of surgery as they want them as strong and healthy as possible going into surgery - all kinds of different philosophies out there. The best thing is to follow their instructions as you want them as comfortable as possible when they are rooting around in your insides. Note to lurkers and early researchers - it is best to find out about these policies as early as possible - as questions when you go to that first informational seminar rather than find out once you are committed to the practice and it's too late to change.

1 pointWhen my primary 1st suggested WLS he put a notation of all the things that would justify me having WLS in my chart. Sleep apnea (I have used a clap for 13 years), back pain, joint pain, depression, GERD, trouble walking. So when insurance asked he already had all the bases covered. I saw him this week. He was very informative & wants to see me a month after my surgery. Toodles, Rue

1 pointThat's a standard term to mean that the insurance company believes you're worth spending the money on. Mostly they want to make sure that your risk of recidivism is low, that you know what you're getting into and how to take care of yourself post-op. That's why there's a psychiatric exam requirement before you can be approved. Most people do just fine with that, though in some cases the psychiatrist may feel there is some previously undiagnosed or untreated depression that could affect your health. There are also other factors, such as if you have other severe medical conditions like advanced cancer, are you likely to actually benefit from WLS? They balance that against the cost of leaving you untreated and instead paying for all of the complications that could arise, such as diabetes. Bottom line is unless you have an extreme situation either physically or mentally, you'll be fine.

1 point1) It depends on the insurance company, but generally you don't want to be gaining weight at any point during the process (different companies may have different thresholds, for example mine was no more than 2 pound weight gain). 2) Requests for approval is usually submitted when all of your requirements are completed, which is usually after your final weigh-in/nutrition class (because they take the most time). When you say pre-op testing I'm not sure what specifically you are referring too. If you are talking about like preop bloodwork then that could be before or after approval request. If you are talking about things like pulmonology, cardiology, sleep study, stress test, PFT, etc (obviously you may not have to do many of these) then approval isn't usually submitted until they are all complete. 4) Of course they can, but since you usually needed them to sign off on the referral for surgery it usually isn't an issue. If you foresee it being an issue then address it with them now, and if necessary change PCPs.

Questions about my upcoming surgery :) please help

1) My insurance had a 'no wt gain' stipulation and it was from my starting weight and I had 6 months required supervision. 2) My insurance approval was sent in after my last NUT appt. , I already had my physical clearances but had not had my surgery labs and EDG - those are scheduled after approval. 3) N/A - had Humana 4) If your insurance requires PCP approval, then yes a PCP can be biased and could stall your chances. BUT you can change primary physicians, or fight through the PCP's supervisors - everyone answers to someone. This has happened to people on bariatricpal, and they changed to another PCP. Mine wanted to send me to a Humana bariatric physician 2 hours away and I said NO. I will petition my insurance to go out of network - at in-network cost because that is a burden to go that far and it was approved. Good luck. -

Lower left belly pain

I’m definitely experiencing the same pain. I am 10 Days post op from gastric bypass. I had my post op appointment this past Monday. I explained to my doctor the pain. He did advise me at that time that he did all of the major work on that side. I told him that the pain increases when I’m trying to drink protein shakes. He advised me to take my time and as my stomach heals things will get better. Unfortunately, my doctor doesn’t believe in sending you home with pain meds. Tylenol doesn’t help me at all. I normally have to lay down for awhile. I told my mom I want to lose weight but I didn’t want to lose it like this (not eating). The only thing I can get down is water and maybe a cup of broth. Tried some soup today and I thought I was going to died from the pain. I hope your doctor can shed some light to your pain!! -

I have 2/3rds of your co-morbilities, substitute Severe GERD for diabetes. BMI almost identical but bear with me a second on MY story. You have been obese most of your adult life? I was born at the end of WW2 to parents who had just lived through the American Depression so what my mother's doctor told them didn't seem unreasonable. My mother nursed me, although at that time breast-feeding had largely fallen out of favor, after every nursing and yes I nursed well she was told to feed me a full 8 oz of Carnation Milk Formula. I started out my extra uterine life at 7of 12 oz, at 1 year I was 35 inches tall and weighed 36 lb. Yes the size of the average American 2 and half year old, I had fat cells set down in my body before I could walk. And I walked or lurched around on my own 2 feet before I turned 1. No wonder I have 2 arificial knees, I started wearing them out early. Although I looked in semi-average size until. puberty my flesh was always soft, never muscled up, how could I? My muscles were naturally fat sheathed. So I guess I have been lipid-challenged my entire existance. Fast forwarding many years, I will soon be receiving a RnY bypass at 72, yeah my blubber should have done me in before 72, and it dud try! Received isn't perhaps a strong enough word, I have been active to semi-actively seeking Bariatric surgery since August 2015. If I don't get it pretty soon I have lined up a box cutter, 50 pound test fishing line, hair clips , a Swingline stapler, a 3 way mirror , some surgical manuals . I am redheaded, stubborn , at least medically semi-literate and like my pen name Frustr8-ed, do you honestly think I couldn't wreak havoc? Oh and I am also high-functioning autistic, we can center on one subject to the exclusion of everything else. And my box cutter has a nice clean blade in it, a leftover from working at Wally World and they kept my work equipment sharp and up to date. When we parted company I didn't happen to generating,it so they never got it back!👉🐵👈
