I have surgery the 29th. Went good I’m very healthy besides my weight. When I woke up said it went longer because they found a hernia or a hernia was starting to form freaked me out. THe rest of the 29th I basically slept. Woke up the 30th so so thirsty. I was having trouble peeing getting enough water etc. By that night I was in pain I could th pass gas I was basically like holy crap what did you do was this the right choice. I couldn’t sleep at all. I was so uncomfortable in bed. Finally they gave me some more pain meds me nausea meds that make you tired and I was able to get back to sleep. Pain has Lessened substantially. I’m able to pass gas I was noticing a lot of cramping and while it hurt to walk I know that was what would best help me. So I’ve been released I’m home now. Just wondering when you all started noticing your bodies not being in pain or uncomfortable etc. I have some pretty cool scars so that’s neat

    Pouch

Gastric bypass patients have pouches...whereas gastric sleeve patients have sleeves. A sleeve is not synonymous with a pouch. Anyhow, your sleeve will relax over time to accommodate a higher volume of food as it heals. This is the natural progression of things although it saddens some people. During the first few months postop I could tolerate about 3 ounces of food. Nowadays I'm almost 3 years out and can easily accommodate 8 to 10 ounces (more than half a pound). A fully matured sleeve's normal capacity is anywhere from 8 to 12 ounces. At this point I wouldn't worry about stretching your sleeve. Just focus on high protein foods and meeting your nutritional goals. Good luck to you.

    Four Month Surgi-versary

Yup, I've made it to the four-month point. About 105 lbs down since the start, about 65 since surgery on August 4. I can confirm that it does get better each week! I feel like I hit a turning point in terms of getting closer to feeling "normal." I'm still cautiously introducing new foods and fine tuning my sense of fullness so I stop before I get uncomfortable (or sick.) I learned a good lesson this past week about why you must eat all your proteins first: I was having a meeting in a cafe and was hungry for lunch so I ordered a kale salad. It was my first time having raw kale, with regular dressing on the side, but I was thrilled when I was able to eat it, no problem. However, I remained incredibly full for the rest of the day, and unable to eat anything else. I guess it just took a looooooonnnnngggg time to digest. I also have healed other physical issues well enough to take a fitness class. When I was about 5 years old, I was kicked out of a ballet class because I was too fat (this was well before the days when everyone had a chance to participate!). So the first class I took now was a Barre Conditioning. It felt like a little redemption. I may be a ballerina yet!!

    Got My Date

I’m super excited that I got my surgery date today! Saw my surgeon last week on Wednesday the 18th, at that time he submitted my paperwork to the insurance company for approval. I was anxious all weekend and expected to hear something by Tuesday, so when I got up and made some phone calls this morning. My first call was to the insurance company and was delighted to find out that they had approved me and had already sent the approval over to my doc. So, immediately I got back on the phone and called over to the Drs office and they set me up with a date for November 7th. It just seems so surreal!!
