2 Weeks of Fluid

Wow I don't know about the rest of you but man the two weeks I spent prior to my surgery was no walk in the park the first few days. I just kept telling myself hey this is for the greater good and if I am going to do this I want to give myself every opportunity to succeed. It was rough but I got past it and so if you are struggling remember "The greater good"!!!!!!!! The new you, the long life, the great times you can have with your spouse, the new found energy or whatever your modification is. Time does not stand still and sooner or later surgery day will come.

In the hospital

Well the surgery was later than originally planned so I am staying the night. I think it was good because the hubby looked freaked out a little. It was cute. I woke up very nauseated. Bad! But I'm better now. I am walking drinking and sleeping. I have been stuck7 times for an iv. They had to break out the ultrasound to get and even that one took two pokes.   Well off to bed now. I just wanted to say i made it.   ~kris

The New Beginning... Again!

Went to the doctor today- felt great to be there, but was seriously having panic attacks for a week in anticipation of what was to come of this appointment. My Story:   I was banded on 5/20/08- just 3 years ago. I had a great start to the program. I was eating less, working out, feeling so Great about myself. "Onederland" was quickly approaching... Then STOP!!!!! I took a trip back 'home' to NY for 2 weeks- old habits came rushing back Came home and got a fill because I had gained a few pounds- making me TOO tight Husband lost his job I lost my job My Grandmother dies Depression sets in- TRIGGER- bringing on Panic Attacks I stop taking care of myself- no vitamins, no water, eating carbs, snacking at night on Bad things Needless to say- I went completely out of control. Wound up in the hospital with kidney stones. Blamed everyone and everything but myself... I EVEN HAD MY BAND EMPTIED OUT FOR 8 MONTHS!!!!!! I wound up gaining back 38 of the 78 I had lost. Moving On: A girl I work with had her band put in this past December. She's going through everything I went through that first year. The losing weight, exercising, shrinking out of her clothes, the compliments, the all around Great feeling!!! I want what she has again.............. I decided to stop fooling around- get serious. I went back to the doctor today to start over. Feeling nervous as ever- I put my tail between my legs and went in. Brian was Great! He sat with me and talked and is getting me on the path to recovery. My 14cc band now hold 7.6cc's. When I hit my sweet spot 2 years ago, I was sitting at 10cc's.... we're going to get there slowly. My appointments will be weekly for a while so I can hold myself accountable for my actions. My work-outs will start tonight. I'm excited to get back into the swing of things even though my journey feels like its going to take forever. I'm praying that I can make each and every day count...

Home Sweet Home

So glad to be home. Getting around better. I dont want to even think about food. The thought makes me want to puke. I have ate some jello twice today. Feels weird going down. I know I am not filled but I can feel the jello slide by something. Maybe its just cause Im tender there. My stomach is still so hard from the anesthia. Feel 9 months pregnant. Feeling brusied all over. Tommorow I can increase to fuller liquid diet but at this point not interested in it. I do feel weak cause of not eating and just want to sleep.

From: Arizona Weightloss Solutions

I would like to put my KUDOS out to this clinic. They have been in No. Phoenix about 2 years or so. My doctor is Dr. Steven Simon, who is the guru of bariatric intervention--great, supportive, educates about options, works viciously to get insurance approval for treatment, and just a fantastic surgeon. I have not yet had my surgery, but have started Preop preparations with diet and have completed my hosp preop tests and xrays. My date is May 31st. Everything has happened very smoothly all around once ins approval was given. Staff at the hospital today was excellent!! I am confident my hospitalization and surgery will go very well. I would not check others in our area out before consulting Dr. Simon!!   Source: Arizona Weightloss Solutions

Chocolate

It's getting to be that TOM and I'm sure some of you ladies can relate to the evil chocolate cravings we sometimes get. Truth be told, I don't really crave sweets like I used to but for some reason I pigged out on chocolate yesterday. I'm not going to beat myself up about it because what's done is done and I'm not doing to undo my weight loss in one moment of weakness. It just reminds me to be more diligent about what I put in my mouth and that one Hershey kiss leads to another (and another and another!). Why can't we crave brussel sprouts or something when we're PMSing? Oh well, today is another day and I'm doing fine.

well hi ya'll....

wow again I havent been on here for a while! I have been searching for a fill doc in my area very unlucky! Since my new insurance doesnt cover anything for WLS I have to self pay. I ended up going back to my original doc to see if they would cut me a break well they ended up being cheaper than any other fill center/doctor. $150 per fill ! Not bad ive got quoted $250-500 at other places. BUT since its been over a year since I've had a fill I have to see a dietian 2x before I can schedule a fill.

Initial consult

I went to the doctor yesterday and nutritionist. The dr seemed very nice. Pretty cut and dry....although, I am not 5'5" like I thought just barely 64 inches so not quite 5'5". :-(   My goal weight for surgery is 230. Realistic goal is 160-170. I did do blood work and I am expecting to be put on iron supplements. BP was down to 148/82. Which is really good considering I just took the bp meds 20 minutes before my appointment.

One day from Graduation

Ok so I weight in this morning at 350.2 I have only lost 0.4 pounds in a week. I think that starting the mushies has slowed down my weight loss. I am still only able to eat a small amount but its definately more than I was eating on the first 2 stages of this diet. I get one 11 oz. shake down a day over the course of 2 hours and then 3 oz. cottage cheese for lunch and 3 oz. applesauce for a snack a couple hours later. 3 oz. of Tuna salad or chicken salad for dinner. I do notice that i get hungry faster now it used to be a few hours before I was hungry agian but lately I am hungry about every 1hour and a half. Graduation is tommorrow and even though I didn't reach my goal to be under 350 I think I just need to celebrate the weight I have already lost. From 389 to 350.2 is a long way and I feel wonderful.

I feel like my weight lost is stagnate!

I want to start off by saying- I do thank God for all that he has allowed me to do, but I can't help but feel that things are at a stand still for me with losing weight. I work out faithfully at the gym. I have never been so committed to working out as I have within the last couple of months. People are constantly coming up to me saying how good I look and how very proud they are of me. I have learned to just smile and tell them how much I really appreciate their kind words of encouragement. Honestly, I do like to hear those encourageing comments from people, but I question who is this person they are talking about. I have even had people to come up to me that has not seen me in a very long time telling me how they didn't reconize me at first. I am thinking what in the world are your looking at because I am the same person.   I start to think to myself do I really look that different. I try really hard to see all the nice positive things being said to me, unfortunately I just don't see that person everyone else is talking about. Sometimes it's a mental struggle for me to be happy and proud of all these things I've accomplished but it's very hard for me to accept. One thing I am the most proud of is my mother deciding to join the YMCA through the silver sneaker program. Her medical insurance plan covers her membership and enrollment fees. She has beome so excited about her water aerboics because it takes the stress off of her joints which enables her to workout in the pool. It is so wonderful to see how much she is enjoying the workouts. I can really see how the inches are starting to come off. She is more moble and she is starting to regain her life back.   I just don't see myself being this new and improved person as others do. I can identify some changes from my clothing size but overall I do see myself as the same. I know inches come off before the actually weight dropps, but I need the scale to do it's thing.   Overall, my life is a lot better than it has been in a very long time.

My Reasons

The intent of this blog is to chronicle my journey through the lap band life cycle or should I say "Life Style"   Let's start at the beginning and state the reasons I did this.       1. For those of us who have struggled with their weight the answer is simple, I need something to help me loose the weight then KEEP IT OFF. Over the years my love affair with food has simple gotten out of control. If I can't control myself maybe I can re-teach my stomach (and brain) a proper way to eat and feel full.   2. I want to do this is for healthy living going forward. I don't know of many 65 yr men who are alive and obese.   3. I would like to look good when my daughter gets married so she can be proud when I walk her down the aisle.   4. I would like it NOT to me a struggle to tie my shoes or put on socks. What a freaking novelty that would be   What I hope to gain though this is control my appetite so I take in less than I use in a day . I have inserted a pic of me when this all started.

Tomorrow is the day

I just wanted to say Great job to all for....... Sticking in there, not giving up, getting back on track and being great inspiration.   I go in tomorrow morning to be officially banded. Check in at 7 surgery at 10. Hope to be home tomorrow but the doc said it all depends on how I do.   Happy thoughts and hopefully good dreams tonight and tomorrow. I am one of those strange people that even under anesthetics I dream.   Good night all. Talk again soon.   ~Kris

(Great Recipe *****) 1 cup Peanut Butter (I use no-sugar-added Peter Pan) 1 cup rolled oatmeal -- not the instant stuff 1 cup protein powder (I use Matrix Chocolate, but you can use other flavors) 5 packets Splenda Warm the peanut butter in microwave about 30-40 seconds -- it melts it and makes mixing in the other ingredients much easier. Add the oatmeal, protein powder, and Splenda and mix well. (If needed, you can add a little bit of water to make it easier to mix) Roll into walnut sized balls, refrigerate. Store in fridge in zip-lock baggies. This recipe makes 20-24 balls. This was yummy, but I would not add the brownie bites in the future -- they add 100 calories and 14g of carbs, which isn't worth it for the minimal flavor boost. Also, I typically use ff Lactaid milk, but dh brought home reduced fat and I didn't realize it. So, the reduced fat milk has 130 calories per cup, versus only 80 for the ff version. The caramel syrup has no nutritional value for a 1-oz. serving.   So, here's the stats for what I actually drank this morning, though you could easily cut 150 calories by making the substitutions mentioned above:     WHATEVER-FLAVOR-YOU-WANT LATTE (All stages except clear liquids) 1 1/2 scoops Matrix Vanilla 16 oz cold brewed coffee (I like Starbucks Sumatra blend) 4 oz milk (I've added a little half-n-half to make it creamier) skim or 1% are best your favorite SF syrup..chocolate, caramel, vanilla.. the possibilities are endless! lots of ice   PROTEIN CHAI TEA (All stages except clear liquids) Mixed 1 scoop Elite Vanilla 1 dash cinnamon 2 teaspoons Chai tea mix 8oz water.   mix well and heat in micro till steaming. EGD Procedure

So as I lay on my living room sofa and reflect on today, I am excited that I am one step closer to the first day of the rest of my life. I had my EGD scope performed today through the True Results Center in Dallas. I must say I was overwhelmed with a lot of emotions that consisted of excitement and a little anxiety. For those of you who are not familiar with the EGD scope and what it has to do with the Lap Band procedure its a test performed to see if there is a Hiatal Hernia present before placing the Lap Band.   There are two major benefits of this test, one is that if the hiatal hernia is present it MUST be repaired during the time of surgery. Another great benefit is that the insurance will cover this procedure at 100% and therefore absorb some of the costs of the Lap Band itself. My insurance provider only covered 50% of the cost and the stipulation is that I have to wait eight months before I can actually have the surgery. So I decided to go the hernia band route to "bypass" the waiting period and be on my way to success sooner!   The procedure went seamless! I registered and asked the nurse a lot of questions, mostly on subject matter that I read on this site. My biggest concern was that I told her that I hadn't been following the liquid diet to the T, she said that it was okay because the concern is more for the heavier patients. It put my mind at ease a little. So after I got undressed I stepped on the scale and I got even more excited. I weighed myself on Sunday May 1st and I was at my heaviest at 243 (but that was with loading days for HCG). Today I officially weighed 224 :Dancing_wub:, so I'll continue to take one day at a time and hopefully be in the teens by my surgery day which is next Wednesday the 18th.   Anyway, after all of the preliminaries (IV, fingerstick, etc.) the nurses wheeled me back to the OR sprayed some numbing agent in the back of my throat, the anesthesiologist gave me the sleepy drug :sleep2: and the next thing I know I was in recovery. It was so quick! The doc came in and said that I did require a small repair, and I sipped some water, went to pee, put my clothes on and was on my way out the door! Since I've been home I have experienced a lil gas pain in my left shoulder and a lil tenderness inside, I'm sure its from the scope. So I popped a pain pill and some gas X and I slept most of the rainy evening.   As the time draws closer I keep thinking in mind that I'm getting ready to be the best of who I am already, a b®and new me!

Officially Banded

Had a rough night before heading to the city to check in for surgery. I havent had a dream of my deceased grandmother in years. She was a RN and a DON who I respect she told me in the dream that she didnt think it was a good idea. Just great. I aldready had fears of not waking up. I do have an over active imagination. Thank goodness it was just my mind playing tricks on me as I went to bed nervouse and apprehensive about surgery. As you can see I woke up lol. Had some concerns cause anesthisia makes me vomit but they loaded me up with medicine not to vomit. I am so sore. I am amazed at how much I used my stomach muscles to do every day movements like getting up from a reclining position or getting up from a seated position. I guess work through the pain. Theres a little bleeding from the incision sites(5) but they said that was normal. Not interested in eating. Too much trauma to want to. So far had one serving jello and one cup clear broth and some apple juice. Go home tomorrow. Cant wait.   Check out this huge potty. Never seen one that big before

Last Appt then approval process...NERVOUS

Well my last appt is next Wed then on for the approval process. Dr says I have to be on the liquid diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery for the way I carry my weight. I must say I am getting very nervous now. Have read alot of the blogs and how some people are have great success and some are having nothing but problems. I pray that I will be a success story I need this for myself as well as my family, I need to be around for my children so this is a MAJOR step in my life. Have lost 35 lbs so far just by not drinking sodas and no real sugar and eating smaller portions and for that I am proud. But I have over 200lbs to lose and just hope choosing the lapband is the right decison. Several people I know have had gastric bypass and have dropped all there weight in a years time and others who have had the lapband are still trying to lose all there weight. My Dr has told me if I follow everything in 2 years I will be at my goal and I am excited about that. Just nervous with all the what if''s and the unknown. Its taking years to put this weight on and I know it wont disappear over nite even though we all wished that   Does anyone have any advise on getting over the nervous problems and to be confident this is the right decison for me?         Thanks!

What am I doing wrong here?

I had my 5th fill yesterday. I got on the scale and have only lost 3 pounds in 5 weeks. WTH!?!?! I almost started crying from frustration. I don't know what I am doing wrong that I am not losing the weight. I know that 67 pounds in 6 months is great but I thought I would lose more. I am eating right and exercising. I don't know if I need to eat differently or change up my exercise routine. But I am having a hard time doing what excersie I am doing because I am in pain most of the time from my Lupus. Maybe I am just being too hard on myself. I am still losing and I need to remember that this is a life long process not an overnight miracle. Things will all work out how they are supposed to. If anyone has ideas on what I can do to bump up the weight loss let me know.

May10th The "Liquid Diet"

My last diet ended just like every other diet and I gained that weight back. Since then I have been preparing for the lap band and today is Tuesday May 10th day 1 of the liquid diet. Surprisingly I am NOT HUNGRY. I realize for the first time how many times in a day I would have eaten just because I was bored. I am pretty proud of myself , even cooked dinner for my husband and daughter w/o a bite. I am thankful for all the viedeo blogs I watched I watched on youtube, I got a lot of good tips right down to the popcicles I should buy. Day one down 13 to go.

I need some advise please

I have replied to several posts lately so some of you may recognize me. I have a questions for everyone who has already been banded. I am struggling with getting another fill or not. Heres my deal: I am 39 and been banded 8 months now. I currently weigh 200 and Im a size 12. I started this process at 230 lbs and a size 18. Im a strong, healthy looking woman. I use to be a model in my 20's and so I put on almost 100 lbs. I look my best at a size 8. I paid 15K for this surgery hoping it would be the tool to help me get back to a comfortable size. I have been stuck at 200 for 3 months now and I dont know what to do. I was filled pretty well but I was getting food stuck every single day and throwing up all the time. I went for 3 days throwing up my own saliva and couldnt get anything down. So I had my doc take a little fluid out. Since then...I have been able to eat whatever I want. I havent gained anything but I cant loose anything either. Before I found it VERy hard to get all my protein in and get enough cals. I do 1-2 hours of work out 5-6 days a week. I do the P90X series and walking/hills. So I burn 500-800 cals per day. I eat about 1500 cals a day now where before I could only eat about 800....BUT I WAS LOSING. Now, I enjoy my food and look forward to it. Am I eating more than I should? I have some treats every now and then but mostly I make good choices. I dont understand why this is SO hard. The doc says its simple science but I really dont think that it is. Should I have another fill?????? I hate the thought of not being able to eat right and the possiblility of getting stuck all the time despite eating slowly and chewing..... or do I need to diet more? Ive been struggling with this for months now and I need your advise PLEASE.
