Terrible Pain in Left Shoulder/Heart Area

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone for the advice, I have noticed that today the pain has moved to the side of my neck but it is still in the shoulder area. Also walking around no longer helps. Keep our fingers crossed and hope this goes away soon. Thank you everyone...

It should be going away pretty soon if you are feeling it in your neck. It worked up to my neck and then my ear. I swear, I thought I had an ear infection it hurt so bad. But after the ear stopped hurting, all of the gas pain was gone.

HI!! My surgery was 10/23, and as soon as I woke up from the anesthesia, I started screaming out in pain, no, not from the incisions, from my left shoulder, OMG!!! it was absolutely horrible! they geve me several meds, but it did not subside. I been crying on and off during this whole week because of the darned pain. My mom is taking care of me and her recipe for my misery was to haul me to the mall, wal-mart, you name it for at least 1-2 hrs everyday, and you know what? today 8 days after my surgery my shoulder does not hurt (almost). I am at work, just a little bit ( 3-4 hrs) and thank God things are almost back to normal. Lots of heat pads, sweaters when going out or to bed, warm Water in the shower, but mostly W-A-L-K as much as you can that helps tons!

Good luck!

I am post-op five days and have been experiencing the pain described here. I am glad that other people have experienced it. I was fearful something was wrong. But I have to say, it is the most painful part so far of my recovery. I couldnt sleep at all last night. Now that I know what could be causing it, I can attack the problem in hopes of relieving it. THANK GOD! Oh, and thank all of you!!! I hope to be able to get some sleep tonight! :scared2:

I had same thing - it was like someone was ripping my left shoulder off for 2 days. I did some stretches one morning because it woke me up at 5am and then later that day I burped big time (first time since surgery) and it went completely away! I too thought something was wrong but remembered the gas thing and now I am glad to see others experienced it too.

It is so great to come here and get this kind of support and feedback without having to drive your doctor and nurses nuts with endless phone calls :scared2:

Good luck to all and hope those pains go away very soon!

I had surgery almost two weeks ago and that pain in your shoulder is the CO2 that pump you up with when they do the surgery. It runs along you veins all through your body and rises up to the shoulder. I had horrible pain for days in my shoulder. It subsided after about a week. Do not take aspirin, it is a blood thinner and can upset your stomach. You should call your doctor and request pain meds. I got sent home with Dilaudid and it worked wonders. good luck!!

It is gas just walk as much as you can, and become one with the heating pad. I used mine draped over my shoulder while sitting up and it would lay right where it needed to. This too shall pass

walk walk and then walk some more. I am 6 weeks post op and experienced the same pains. Start taking some laxatives also. The pains are caused from the air trapped in your abdomen from the surgery. Relief will come soon..the first week was the worst.

I feel your pain. It is from the CO2 that they put into you during surgery. I was banded on Oct 15 and just last week the pain went away. It was there for two weeks. My left shoulder was in so much pain. No matter what I did i still had the pain. It was horrible!!!!! It will go away shortly. And your Dr should have gave you pain medicine. Just hang in there and before you know it the pain will be. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
