December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

Well December Bandsters,

I'm on my last day of pre op diet and tomorrow is the BIG day. I guess I've been too hungry and focused on the diet for the last 10 days, because I haven't been nervous until today. I'm very anxious and quite a bit nervous. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm on the PMS wagon, as well. I have to be at the hospital @ 7 a.m and surgery is @9. :)

I'm right there with ya Kimmi! Same surgery times, PMS and everything!lol - No need to be nervous.. everything will go well! Blessings to you my friend!

Just got call from doctor to set pre-op for Dec. 21 with surgery on Dec. 29 (which I already knew) . . . pre-op diet is ten days with Slimfast . . . seems like most everybody has other Protein Shakes type things. . . should I be concerned about this? As I've said before, I'm scared--not by the surgery itself, but the life adjustments. I'm going to need your help, please! thanks.

Barbara :) (I still can't get ticker to work right :)

Just click on the pic of your ticker select copy and then paste it in the signature - that'll work.

Also - I heard there was just a huge slim fast recall - be careful.

Hi Everyone,

I have been following this forum for a few months, there is so much useful information I am thankful I have found you all. My surgery date is Dec 30.... and I started my two week diet today, so far so good. :)

I am home from my surgery. All went great. The actual surgery took about a hour. And I was heading home 3 hours later. My only pain is at my port site. I don't even have gas pains. It is just hard because my kids don't understand. My 16 month old just want me to hold him and I can't. It breaks my heart that I can't hold him. But I have a good support system at home to give both my kids extra attention.

Best of luck to everyone. I am excited and still in shock to say that I am officially banded!

I am on day 6 with my pre op diet and I hate to say it but I cheated. I am a teacher and we had a pizza party today and I gave in and ate a slice. I am going to exercise today in order to make up for it. Surgery is this Saturday.

I admit, I cheated a tad during my 2 week pre-op diet too. I would have a bite of something every 3 or 4 days. Shoot last night I had a small bowl of chilli as my last meal before being banded.

That 2 week diet can be a killer. I think you would go crazy if you didn't reward yourself with at least a taste every now and again.

I was banded last Friday and havent had much of an appetite..but still really hurt! Is this normal..anyone?? Im waking up in the night with pain...My doctor is 5 hours away so I dont see him until my first fill next month the 14th...I've only lost 6 lbs..and feel very swollen...I will be glad when this part gets better!

POPPYred

I'm feeling the same way poppyred. I just took some more hydrocodone. The pain is more around the belly button area. I had a single incision and I'm thinking maybe that is around where the doctor put the port. I can't bend because it feels like a log is in there. Other then that pain and still swollen I feel good. I have more energy. And I'm dropping weight. I go to my doctor next tuesday I will let you know what he says.:)

Me!!! Tentatively scheduled for 12/28 :)

So since my cardiologist NEVER sent the paperwork my surgeon needed to get the ball rolling for 12/28 my surgery is now on hold. I was doing this surgery as a self-pay patient bc my insurance doesn't cover this procedure. My fiance is looking for work and I am hoping that when he finds a job it will have insurance that covers this procedure. So, now I am in date limbo  I would love to do it ASAP because I am so ready! Most realistically it'll be March or April.

wow I don't think i could do it that long a week is enough for me lol

Trust me, there are days I don't think I'm going to make it. I did cave the other day and allowed myself a slice of 2% cheese just because I NEEDED some kind of real food. But it could have been a giant plate of Cookies and it wasn't, so I'm not being too hard on myself. Besides, a lot of people on here are allowed lots of real food as long as it's low carb, so I figure of all the things to give in to, that wasn't so bad. But in only 18 shakes I will be having surgery, so I'm finally beginning to see that light at the end of this verrrrrrry long tunnel! I can't wait to get some sugar-free Jello and applesauce!

Mariposa-

So sorry to hear you got bumped! That totally sucks, especially since you've been prepping yourself for it this whole time. But hopefully your fiancee will land a job that will pay for the procedure and then you won't end up paying out of pocket, so while it totally stinks you have to wait, maybe at least there is a silver lining!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
