December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

hi, sorry you are going through this also, very scarey and the last thing we both need. Clinic did get me in for a u.s. Monday morning at 7:30 AM. Will know the result b4 I leave. Praying for both of us. Keep us posted.

Terri

14 pounds down 97 to go surgery Date Dec. 1

I'm trying not to let it freak me out. I did some research online and its very very common to be called back for an u/s and the vast majority of the time it turns out to be nothing. I'm hoping and praying both of us get good news and a clean bill of health this week.

Hello,

I'm getting my band Dec 8th. Pre-op diet is going ok. Thanksgiving was hard. I ended up eating a few things I wasn't supposed to but, overall I think I did well. I look foward to keeping in touch

I'm not at my liquid diet week yet but... I love the vanilla matrix w/banana, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 cup ice, dash of vanilla and one sweet and low. My hubby even loves it.

Also, I've already taken to drinking the nectar strawberry and kiwi. They are both yummy! I hope everyone else finds 'that thing' that makes it a little easier for them!

I'm almost ALWAYS get called back for a repeat mammo and/or U/S. That fibrocycstic syndrome apparently runs in my family. When is your f/u appt?

Keep us posted on the follow up mammo. That's sacary to think about especially in lieu of the new "recommendations" to not have one done til you're 50!

liquid diet is ROUGH, but, going well. I seem to be getting a LOT done around the house in order to take my mind of off the food thing. I would almost strangle someone right now for pizza though! GGRRRR. It's my 3rd day, I think it'll get better. I'm going to get some Unjury chicken flavor over the weekend and I'll be OK. Crazy enough, in 3 days, I've lost 7 pounds already! YEEK! Is this normal? Is anyone else having weird, rapid weight loss??

OK, time to go do more laundry.....

Herbalife shakes rock for anyone who is having trouble getting down Protein Shakes. They are really good and I hate shakes.

I am hating Clear Liquids, though.

As for weird rapid weight loss, I can confirm that. This morning, my ring was snug. When I left to get Pop-sicles tonight, it was so loose that it almost fell off my finger. No lie. Very WEIRD. I don't keep a scale in the house. I meant to weigh myself on a store scale but I was so distracted by all the food, it was all I could do just to get out of there.

Hello, all! I'm getting banded on December 2nd and am currently on my pre-op liquid diet. It's not so bad, except for the mid-day hunger pangs. Anyways, how are yall dealing with the diet? Let me know

Hi BeeSwank,

I'm getting banded on 12/3 and finishing up my 3rd day of liquids. The first day was the worst but it's getting easier everyday. The good news is that I lost 8 lbs the first 2 days. Can't wait to see what the scale says in the morning.

Hi Electrawoman,

Looks like we are in the same area. I live in The Colony. We need to get together and workout sometimes. Good to see someone local on here!

adevong, we are very close!!!!! I work out at the LE 24hr fitness if I go to the gym. I want to find a team or a sport to do instead. I have a bunch of metal in my leg, though so I can't do anything too rough. I love swimming but hate driving to Frisco to go to the pool at 24hr. What do you do for workouts?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
